Avocados don't grow true to seed, so you trees are pointless for eating. In the video they talk about getting trees from a nursery, this is why.
They wont have any fruit on them, they almost never grow from pit

In California, where the domestically produced avocados are grown, the price can fluctuate wildly between seasons. When it's peak harvest time, and nearly-ripe fruits need to head to a nearby market for sale before they can go bad, the price will often drop lower than the price of apples, but in the off-season they can cost $2 each. It's kind crazy, though I suppose it makes sense from a supply-chain perspective.
😂You are being seriously knocked off. In Africa where supposedly there is, "food shortage" an avocado is less than half of a dollar. It's either that, or your farmers need to grow avocados more.

In Brazil is very common to find huge healthy avocado trees growing on some houses backyards, it is only expensive depending on what markets you buy them and if it's not avocado season

I am 63 yrs old and have been eating avocado since I was able to eat solid food, and presently I eat one every day for breakfast. I do it not because it is good for me but because I love it. TIP: contrary to what the video says, buy only green hard avocados as ripe ones in the store are usually already starting to rot. I usually buy 5 at a time and leave them on a tray on the counter. After 3 days they start to ripen and they usually ripen at different rates so I just pick the most ripe one first. Also we sometimes get 10 or so to make our own guacamole recipe, which disappears in about 15 minutes.
I live in Kenya, Africa. Avocados grow everywhere in my great grandparents home which is in a remote village, as of now I have approximately 20 avocados in my pantry waiting to ripen. I eat avocados almost every meal.

@@ethanrios1010 yeah this isn't entirely true. some avocado trees planted from seed do produce fruit after like 8 years of growing, and for a big mature tree , the first harvest will be 1 to 5 avocados, but for the next harvests one wouldn't bother to count.
Source: we have a single ungrafted avocado tree in our backyard (what i've described above) that produces big, high quality and probably the sweetest avocados i've ever had (if harvested at the right time).... i would understand if you think i'm exaggerating because random person in the internet, but i'm not. :)

It depends on the location, indeed. Here in Angola, for instance, its toooo cheap and almost an item of our basic food package. Plus, we do not use it on salad, but with bread (as we often do with butter or cheese).

When I was a kid, we used to have 3 avocado trees at the back yard. We had so many we would have give them to the pigs to eat.
From Australia in June 2022, for perhaps the last year we have been able to purchase avocados for on average $A1.00 each. A glut during that period, a loss of a market to other countries, and the closure due to Covid of cafes, were I think the main contributory factors. It has been for us, on a modest budget, a breakfast staple throughout that time.

In Philippines Avocados are seasonal, and we do have a lot of variety of avocados, price varies on every variety, the most expensive is about 100pesos($2)per kilo and the cheapest would be 25pesos(50cents) per kilo. We usually mix it with condensed milk and lots of ice for a refreshing dessert after meal. Its weird seing it on the top of the bread or other recipes we never known. But for sure its delicious whatever you make it.
Well, I've been buying avocados at Wal Mart this summer so far, at $.79 each. I put them in a paper bag on counter from 2 to 5 days and they have all been great. About the same price as the average Gala apple. Twice as expensive as a banana or more, but the avocado has twice the potassium content by wt.

We got 2 trees of avocados with 12 inches diameter each in my parents home. I used to climbed them as a kid. It bears a lot of avocados that are really big, bigger than what they call big today, just one avocado is enough, for sure you can not finish 2 avocados.

In Brazil we can find three kind of avocados in supermarket. In fact, we call avocado these like in the video, but we have two other species that are way bigger and we call them abacate. Our abacate is about 1 dolar per kg.

I cant believe i just found out how delicious avocado on toast is. As an Indonesian we only consumed avocado as smoothie, sweeten with condensed milk and ice but savory avocado is tasty with shallots, lemon, pepper, and salt. No wonder westerners are crazy about it!

Here in Brasil, avocado is also pretty expensive (6-8 dollars/kg), but our abacate (It is the same as avocado, but really bigger) is less than 2 dollars/kg. And in some places, abacate is less than $1 dollar/kg.

Here in east texas, Haas (spelled?) variety, single fruit is, in season, $.50 each and out of season up to $.89 small and $1.29 large.
Avocados are cheap here in the tropics because they kinda grow like weeds, no human intervention needed. In the West though, you can maybe grow one but it probably won't bear fruit. The same can be said of raspberries and blueberries, they're hella expensive here in South East Asia because the weather doesn't suit the growing conditions that they need. Blueberries cost like $8 a kilo in the US give or take, here in SEA they cost $8 per 200grams

We are the biggest exporters in the world, about 2.8 billion dollars were made in Mexico from exporting avocados, the closest second was the netherlands with only 1 billion made.

Wow i'm from Mexico an live near the village were these are grown, and here we can find it for 2.5 dollars or less for a kilogram of avocado, it's expensive compared to other fruit, but I didn't appreciate how common it was compared to other places

@@og-greenmachine8623 They're kinda big, but it depends on the country. As the last response said, in Bolivia you get even 10 for one dollar, unlike my country, that is weirdly poor and expensive at the same time.

Which variety? Hass is always expensive, same as every variety without "strings" and creamy, the watery or fibrous ones are cheap everywhere.

Las variedades de exportación son siempre caras (cremosas, sin hilachas, casi maduras y sin quemaduras o cicatrices de picotazos o bichos) porque se gasta mucho en cuidados, las locales que uno compra a dólar el kilo solo viene de igual calidad si el vendedor te deja elegirlas a mano, si no vienen verdes, manchadas y si tienes mala suerte con gusto a pasto o aguadas, detalles que al final del día no importan mucho pero ayudan a bajar el precio.

On another note, it amazes me how much avocados cost when I’m in a grocery store and happen to notice their price, I have two very prolific trees in my garden here in SoCal and I share them with my neighbors!

Laughs in Colombian. You can find avocados there for 0.24$ or even less. I remember going to the small shop for vegetable and fruits and everytime the person there gave me 1 or 2 avocados as a gift for buying there.
Avocados in Ecuador are pretty cheap if you know where to buy them. I would say you can get them for less than 10 cents each, and I would dare say that you can find them at 5 cents in some places. My friends and I have always thought: "If it is healthy and it is in the US, then it is probably going to be costly"

That has been the problem for decades people follow fads if everyone lernt to eat in moderation and a variety of foods they all would be living a healthier life, remember years ago butter was bad for us then they say we should eat a little butter then it was steak, then dairy anything in excess is bad for us so again moderation is the name of the game, from what I have seen on youtube and other media platforms america has a real problem with portion sizes bigger is not always better, cheese in an aerosol can sorry I find that disgusting and is it real cheese and orange cheese whats that about?

@@funkq2134 Yes they have been eating unhealthy food and now trying to be better. But the diet trend in america always affects the other countries that sometimes it is not good (high demand and pricey). Even america wash their eggs before selling, just another reason why their immunity decreasing.
If it takes a trend to get people eating healthier, it is still a step in the right direction. Better a trend in avocados than one in something that is unhealthy.

@@jib1823 IDK in other asian countries but here in the Philippines you can say it's quiet abundant. Though it's not like you'd see it anywhere nor could you buy it any time of the year but it's also not that rare to buy one this expensive. I think you can buy a kilo or two here without spending more than 3$ depending on which area you're buying it
I'm brazilian and I have avocados tree's in my college campus and every year it's just there to take. Free avocados for a few months. Also mango tree's.

Here in Singapore where avocados(as with most of our food supplies) are imported, the suppliers only import a few varieties from Australia, New Zealand, US, Mexico and South Africa, and every one is expensive, starting from ~S$2 each.
A family friend used to work in Myanmar and she buys the avocados grown there locally, which are huge and cheap(S$0.80), yet the taste is creamy and delish.
There was once my mum made a trip to neighbouring Indonesia, where she bought a few huge but watery and sucky avocados, which are totally disappointing to eat on its own or as a spread. It only works if blended into a smoothie with other sweet stuff like condensed milk, honey or palm sugar, which explains why avocado smoothies are popular in Indonesia, as other ways of consuming avocados especially if not blended with something sweet, is totally unpalatable!
Nowadays, 2022 in the netherlands, you can get 3 avocados for €1,50 on the local market. That's less then 2 dollars.
Little keynote, they're not as great as the average hass avocado, but if you know how to pick them, you'll always find some decent or even good ones.
