    I have introduced three friends of mine to this game. We are planning a RIDICULOUS comical party where we all dress up like gentlemen, pour a few drinks, make fancy tea sandwiches, and play this game as a tournament for ourselves - all because of this video. Thank you.

    Cole, thanks for this video! I had learned this game a while ago with slightly modified rules, but couldn’t remember quite how to play. Your explanation was quick, concise, and easy to follow.
    I’ve started a bit of a golf craze at the school I teach at, and it’s also a favorite in my family. Thanks again!

    My friends and I definitely play this different. Our kings and jokers are both worth 0, any matching pair cancels out, not just columns, and we start play by looking at and memorizing our bottom 3 cards, then playing the round with the cards all face down. Play continues each hole until one person *knocks* on the table, signaling that they forfeit their turn and are satisfied with their cards. Then everyone else gets one more draw, and then scores are counted for the hole. We also have a social drink every time a paired card lands in the discard pile, for instance a queen is discarded on top of a queen. *DRINK!* That happens surprisingly often.

    A card game that starts similarly and has the same objective as Golf (get the lowest score) is called KOMBIO. It's Golf plus abilties and card shedding. Players can view, swap and match cards - this creates very dynamic rounds 😎

    So if you pick a card from the deck and don’t wanna switch it for one of your cards. You discard it and that’s it? I could’ve sworn you have to flip over one of your cards if you choose to discard. Someone let me know if I’m wrong.

  • @mylexicon2
    @mylexicon2 Před 2 lety

    We play a different variation. Jacks and sevens are 0 points. King is 10 points. Jokers are -5 points. A box is worth -20 points and a box of jokers is worth negative -40. This keeps scores closer to par, and allows players who are losing badly to use high risk strategies to get back in the game.
    Golf is actually an interesting strategy game. Play high cards because they are often discarded and easy to match? Play low cards to keep the risk down? Play fast (even if you take points) to trap the leader with a bad score? Play slow to minimize score? Swap your face up cards to reduce points on the board or focus on matches? A lot of strategy actually.
    It’s also fun if you do honors. Players go in order of the score from the previous round (lowest first), but that requires a lot of moving around.

    Fun game. We play using 9 cards a deuce is worth -2 and jokers are wild. No diagonal 3 in a row only horizontal and vertical. 3 in a row is a zero row. A quad is 4 cards next to each other which = -25. Great game. I will try the 6 card version.

    Can I replace a card more than once? For example, it's my turn and I draw a 5 and decide to keep it in favor of one of my hidden cards, then on my next turn I draw a card and get a 2. Can I keep the 2 in the 5's spot which I drew last round and place the 5 back in the discard pile?

      No, you only get to turn over the 2 cards on your first turn. After that, you can only exchange a card with a drawn card.

      There are a lot of variations of this game, and yes, there is one variant that allows players to turn a card rather than draw. Not everyone agrees on point values of cards or use of the jokers, so if you're in a new group, make sure you have talked over the house rules.
