I know you were looking for part 2, there are actually 6 parts in the 246 teardown, see this playlist czcams.com/play/PLYsfQOh0tsJUi2vbw2gkUxljGrCTqhTpo.html

@@Tetrakan thanks so much! Gotta replace at least one RCA in the back..that much I know. I'm super duper impressed with the way driving this machine sounds

@@Tetrakan Thank you for the playlist.I was finding it for 10 minutes thru youtube.First I followed travis, Then you.thank you travis too.I addicted this machine because of you two.I love the sound they are making.I wanna buy one. These machines are rare to find in asia. There is a one machine in my country.I have to drive 800KM to get it.I will drive if it can be fix.but It doesn't react to the transport buttons. Can I fix this? still I didn't buy it.I wanna some kind of advice from you before I buy it.Do I buy it ?? Then Can I make it as a working machine.? I love yours and travis stuff a lot.The machine sounds awesome.I wanna make music sounds like yours.. travis... oh... this machine does. Can you help with it?? help will be really appreciated. If I buy that 246 can you help to make it work? I can donate to your PayPal for that.and help people like me around the world.make their self happy. Thanks again.! .

Hopefully the buttons do not respond because the rubber parts need to be replaced, thats a job a beginner could do. If you buy the unit you can message me here or via Facebook messenger, I will help you if I can.

Thanks so much for making these videos, they're a wonderful resource. I have a repair question regarding the control/function button system of the 246. I bought a non-functioning machine, replaced all the rubber, and have the transport running smoothly, but now my only problem seems to be that the REC function is not switching on. All other controls work, but I cant get the machine into record mode. Ive tested the switch itself, and it's working fine, so I think there is a point of failure in the switching/logic PCB. There's a fairly detailed explanation of the function switching and logic circuits in the repair manual, but this is my first time trying to repair a logic issue, so I'm a bit in the dark. I wanted to ask if you've encountered an issue like this before, and could identify some potential failure points to check. Experience tells me to suspect semiconductors like switching diodes and transistors first. I'm ready to dive in with an Oscope and try to trace things out, but any points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Cheers and thanks again for this great channel!

Thanks! The logic gates and so on are my final frontier of my ignorance I’m afraid, sounds like you know about as much about it as me if not more, but before you start doing some electrical engineering sleuth work on that PCB, have you checked that the tactile switch under the plasticrecord button is okay? In my experience if the logic boards go, it’ll effect one or more tracks, but not all of them, so it seems more likely to me you just need to clean or replace the little 5mm switch?

@@Tetrakan its definitely not the switch. Today I've traced it out to somewhere around the REC out terminal of the U502 (the TEAC microprocessor). Pressing the REC button gives me proper control voltage changes up until there, where the control voltage should switch from High to Low when the button is pushed, but it doesn't for record. It's switching all the other functions fine, so I assume the problem is probably with transistors q501 or q503, which are supposed to switch on after control voltage from u502 drops. I understand better how the logic/switching works now, but still in the weeds and will tinker on. Definitely finicky troubleshooting now, not so fun.

I’ve got a couple of faulty boards 246 control boards where (and I might be shaky on the details here, it’s been a while) the logic gates hooked up to the record arm buttons on the monitor buss are faulty. I only had a standard iron at the time and trying to remove those chips from the double sided PCBs was murder, I should really return to that project now I have one of those solder guns with a vacuum build into it….good luck finding the ball in the long grass!
