Cold air always falls Downward. Because of that you might consider installing a shelf up high for your generator and air conditioner. It will be much more efficient for your cabin.

    • @DanielJOehlerDMDHenderson
      @DanielJOehlerDMDHenderson Před 2 lety +33

VERY important to vent that second pipe outside. That hot air exhaust venting out the back is originating from INSIDE your cabin. Let's say you have cooled the air inside your cabin to 75 degrees you are taking a large quantity of that air and running it through the heat exchanger in your AC unit and then dumping it outside. That air has to be replaced from somewhere (to keep your cabin from shrinking) and the replacement air is coming from the outside meaning the air is being replaced by ambient which might be 90/90 as you stated. Even though you may be getting 50 degree air coming out the front of the AC unit the air flow from that is way less than the exhaust going out the back which is replaced by the ambient outside air which makes your unit work very hard. It would be like running AC in your car with the windows partially open. Yes the air coming out the vents feel good but would be hard to cool off the car. Same with the tent scenario. You need two pipes going outside the tent for the AC to work efficiently. Great video but you need two pipes!

Unreal that you'd put it that low to the ground. !!!!!! Whovever installed A/C lower than window height???? All the air above the height of the A/C is going to still be hot & humid. Basic understanding from primary school is cold air sinks, hot air rises.

I have a very small pond in my back yard and also have 55 gal drums that are 3/4 full of pea gravel and full of water. I simple put about 4 flat head minnows in each barrel and pond. That was 5 years ago. The barrels all have moss and minnows now. No mosquitoes at all.

After reading many reviews and watching a lot of videos, I chose this option for my first backup power station. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHypYDKHAN93Lp2RQpfvU_ksc70wJ00pt I was between this and a larger option that could power a wider range of items, but the price/size/capacity blend seemed right for this unit. Hasn't gotten a ton of use yet, but the build quality is solid and it charges fine via the Rockpals solar panel I purchased to pair with it. One thing to note is that the screen is optimized for a top down viewing angle, which makes sense, but this means it washes out at other angles - especially low angles. Not a huge deal, but perhaps a better option for the display could be used to provide wider viewing angles.

Suggestion for draining your pond, or just reducing the water level. Use PVC pipe and set up a siphon. It works 24 hours a day without any needed power. Just select your pipe size, with a T connector + two plugs (one for the lower end). Place the T at the highest point(typically on the dam), plug the lowest point, and fill the pipe full of water (five gallon buckets work well). Close the T junction with a plug, securing it watertight, then remove the lower cap. As long as the lower end of the pipe is below the water level from the source/pond, water should flow. Easy as pie.

I actually live next door to a company that makes cooler panels. They use them mainly here in Florida for the ferneries here that need to keep those ferns cool until they're shipped off. They are four inches of closed cell foam between two sheets of metal and people use them for roofs, storage buildings, even houses. They are amazing at keeping the coolness inside! Look into it. In a cold climate they probably would be just as effective at keeping the warm in. And they are fairly cheap. They are called Coool Panels, Astor, Florida.

You really should run that second duct/vent. Every cubic inch of air you pull from inside the cabin and blow out is replaced by outside air being drawn in through various cracks etc. By running the second vent you'll pull outside air across the condenser coils then back outside this will make your unit more efficient. Just a suggestion.

I am so HAPPY to know that someone else suffers with the “head sweat”!!! I’m a 73 year old woman and have had this issue all my life. I have a twin brother that suffers as well. I just found out it’s a heredity issue! So we can thank our wonderful father for this miserable condition. LoL He hated it like you do!
The thing that makes me the maddest, is that woman shouldn’t have this issue. It’s so embarrassing. Ugh! Now let me tell you the where I live……. North Louisiana! Yes, talk about humidity, OMGOODNESS! Awful, just awful.
I am a widow and living on SS, I saved my money just to buy a solar panel and a small generator so I could survive another hurricane or mostly because of a grid down situation. I had no idea what I was doing, read a lot of reviews and I purchased a “Eco Flo River Max” and one solar panel. At lease I’ll be able to have a fan this summer if we lose power. I’m so excited to be able to own the “Eco Flo”Generator! I decided on it because of the reviews from Amazon, the price and how easy it was to set up. I was scared to death to waste my money since I had no idea what I was doing. I watched you video because I didn’t know they made AC units. That’s wonderful!
My prayers go out to y’all in Oklahoma to stay safe in these trying times. Do what y’all can to have enough food and water and maybe enough yo help your friends and neighbors.
Hope I get to see Oklahoma one day, Broken Bow is only four hours from me. God Bless y’all.

Don't know much about OK, but I do know I'm only about ~3-5% less humidity on average than LA if that. Except here in the foot hills... breeze? What's that? I sweat like a pig from May to October. Sweat is meant to evaporate and cool you, unfortunately at 100% humidity, it doesn't do much good. lol. Most people have no clue that 85 degrees and 90% humidity feels something like 100 degrees with 50%, much less 100 degrees at 90%. I'd honestly take 100 degrees at 50% over 85 degrees at 90% any day.

Daniel, you may find that air intake in the back is just for the condenser. Though it may seem intuitive to use cool air from inside for it, it cuts the efficiency tremendously because all the air blowing out has to come in from outside through cracks and window leaks, so you're pulling hot air into your living space. If you use totally outside air for the condenser, it cools it slightly less but you aren't creating a vacuum pulling hot humid air into living space making the compressor run way way less. You'd have to offset your intake because right now you exhaust is blowing straight down to where the intake would be, don't want that loop. Same principal as pulling in outside air for combustion in a wood stove or fireplace.

We used fans to stay cool and all the windows open and it has a huge screened in front porch that we practically lived on. Dang the pond grew! My mom did put in a tiny little air conditioner in the one bathroom we had. Dad was an insurance adjuster so he was given the unit and we loved being able to all go in the bathroom and hang out! Pick up 6 2.7 volt 500f capacitors w circuit board so when the compressor kicks on the heavy load comes out of the caps not the battery, then it runs at what 3 amps . It makes batteries last much much longer seeing the heavy draw from motors does not zap batteries 👍

You could fit a bunk bed on one side with full on bottom, twin on top. mattress over the doorway/porch.
200 watt panels over in the sunshine would have those charged for a weekend cabin.

We are also in OK and it has been HOTT. We are Building our cabin now and we fully insulated it with R15 insulation and we put in a 14,0000 BTU Window AC for now. It gets plenty of sun but stays cooler a lot longer than our RV does.

Instead of building a loft you could probably buy one of those bunk beds with a queen or double bed on the bottom with a twin on top. It might be cheaper and you could move it around if need be.

Nice setup you got there! Love all the foliage and shade you get! Although in winter all that foliage blows away and I bet you will appreciate the insulated walls! Your pond looks terrific to dump some bass and frogs in there. And deep enough to keep water year round if you can spread some of that clay over the sides and bottom. That center clump of trees looks like a perfect stand for hunting or fishing too!! Ducks! Deer or hogs! Have fun!! I got a small 200 acre valley with a year round creek and a spring I am looking forward to fixing up perfect myself!

Have you considered a bed and other cabin furniture that can fold up into the "wall". The top of the Faux walls could be used as a shelf and the cabin won't have a huge bed taking up floor space. Additionally, to top of a faux wall, you could place your "air conditioning" unit up higher and your eventual heating unit at the bottom. Cold air falls, hot air rises.

Does the part of the property with standing water have clay impeding the water draining? Depending on the amount (if it is clay) you co7ld use it to line the pond to help retain water and eliminate mosquito breeding areas.

Depending on where you're at in Oklahoma (I'm southeast Oklahoma near Fort Smith Arkansas)...
    the panels probably came from
    Therma Tru
    3003 Industrial Park Rd.
    Van Buren AR, 72956
They manufacture insulated steel doors and these are the "punch-outs" they sell on the side

ROXUL ROCKWOOL INSULATION IS BEST My house is 2440 sq ft modular house in VA 15 minutes from NC and walls are 2x6 stud walls attic and floors insulated and it cost me less than 100 dollars a month for all electric house . Only thing available here is propane , Basment helps keep house cool but thinbking of putting a pellet stove in the basement for winter . I think it would help the lennox heat pump we had put in . 2 stage dual compressor heat pump in the winter my bill goes up to 120 dollars a month . But I do have a koi pond and guest house so guess not that bad

A wood stove is the only answer, if you are willing to cut some wood. It you get one with a thermostat damper, it will keep a fairly steady temperature and burn all night on one fill. The ambiance and smell is incredible, and you can cook on some of them. Some people prefer them to burn out and sleep cool, then restart them in the morning, however, being older, I want some heat all night.

  • @Jules1280

Maybe get a high velocity fan and put in there when you are there to circulate the warm air trapped at the top of the cabin with the cooler air at the lower level. Will definitely need that when you add the loft. It will be way warmer up there then down below. Blessings!
