Satoshi Kon didn't have the opportunity to direct many things in his life but the few he did direct were fantastic. I especially loved Paprika and Paranoia Agent. He had such a way with making you feel happy, sad, and disgusted all at once, like you were alone on your birthday and had to eat the entire cake.
+adam84144 Although I agree with you... that is a bad analogy. Although you do get to eat all the cake, you were still lonely inside. Satosshi' movies made me feel more happy than depressed....
Satoshi Kon is the embodiment of the phrase "quality over quantity" in the four classics he created. As sad as it is, I could not have asked for a better send-off than Paprika. I'm just happy it exists at all.
i wish i knew what this feeling was called i feel it to, so unusual like it takes me somewhere more free compared to the life i live now for a bit as i listen to it
I love how Satoshi Kon constantly made the lines of reality and fiction blurred for both the characters as well as the viewers. Paprika, Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Paranoia Agent are all fantastic to watch!
Note for song lovers - This is called Mediational Field, The girl in byakkoya is a more chill instrument version with more male vocals and a drop filled with memories is a relaxed echoy version. I got the girl in byakkoya by accident trying to get this song so watch out lol
Maybe because deep down we are reminded of what could have been and how it really turned out with regards to everything. The song is optimism overload but strongly undercut by the contrary.
It gives of the vibe of a world you left behind years ago and came back to see it's the same way you remember it, but you can't stay forever, and eventually you'll leave, same as before To me it does anyway
to me this movie stands up with the other greats of anime, like akira, ghost in the shell, princess mononoke, etc. such an inventive and unique animation.
so, im a music producer and do a fair amount of sampling in my work, about 3 years ago i discovered an awesome sample from the berserk millenium falcon ost. it is called "sister's speech" or something similar when translated. i enjoyed that alot. just today im watching paprika for the first time and heard this track. i google find out that low and behold they are by the same artist. definitely check out that track if you like this one as they have a similar feel for sure.
While this and The Girl in Byakkoya are musically similar, they're different in instrumentation and tone. Byakkoya is more mysterious and surreal, while this is exuberant and adventurous.
Byakkoya is like floating inside clear water or in a clear blue sky, while this theme is like running at the speed of light with happiness and exhuberance...
I recently been listening to both, and I think if you could combine the intro for this song to the other at the right point you would have the best of both songs. The first minute or so has original instrumentals but the rest is pretty much identical.
Oh wow je suis en train de regarder le film et cette chanson m'a scotchée dès ses premières secondes, je m'attendais pas à un truc pareil c'est trop génial n_n /
First of all when i discovered this song after i watched Beserk and listened to all Susumu Hirasawa's songs i felt a bit odd then i recognized my type of music was a bit strange too cause i know everyone not all but most of the people like genres as Hip Hop and Rap and when anyone would ask me... i couldnt answer tbh.. however i started to like all of his songs and i also sometimes cry when i listen to this cause i know thats me, thats how i am, an individual being
Who else is hopelessly addicted to this song?
aye. It's fantastic :)
It´s my ringtone
Isaac Rahman I've been listening to it on repeat for the last 3 days since first seeing this film XD
But what do you think about the film? Pretty spacy, huh?
I was high asf. loved it.

I think you described the feeling to a T.
Dog you have a WAY with words srsly
Cheers to you Satoshi Kon! Thank you for beautiful art
I would describe it more as, stockholm syndrome type of happiness. It makes you feel bad feelings sometimes but you crave the happiness it gives you
adam84144 brilliantly said

U should check his anime series "Paranoia Agent" and his manga "Opus" if you don't know about them
It's beautiful that he still remembered despite only creating a few films.☺️

Have you tried Mamoru Oiishi and Mamoru Hosoda's films yet?
I recommend their Angel's Egg and Wolf Children movies.😁
I think it is a Mona Lisa... a calling-card, a hope for a better time and a self-portrait.
This song gives me such a strange feeling but I love it so much...
i know you feel like dreaming, like if you could fly it is so weird..... I KNOW! You feel like if you were in the wonderlands!
@@gala6695 I feel like running and floating all at once.

A strange mix of acute nostalgia and happyness
I miss you Satoshi Kon.
Jepze Man, he was too young to die. Masterminds like him should live eternally
It still came out nowhere when news came like 6 years ago
Jepze Yeah. But if gold is hidden under a rock, does it stop being gold because we don't see it?
Eh i still like anime but we will never have shit that Kon made and i never really liked Miyazaki
Me too

This piece of music lives in my brain rent free
thats good, as rent is going up its actually amazing
This song is full of life , joy, positivity, and transformation. Magical on the Journey of epic depression.;)

I recently finished re-watching this movie.
This movie hits different if you watch going in and out of sleep.😂
The opening scene to this film...brilliant art
I dunno why but every time i listen to this song I wanna cry
Samme her - sånn er det bare med musikken til Hirasawa-sama :')
Makes me sad that we'll never see another Satoshi Kon film :(
Last time i had that feeling was when i watched Berserk anime and that wierd ost came up.

That was my first blu ray! I bought it when it came out in 2007! Awesome movie, incredible music!
You watched this on Blu-ray in 2007?
I was still using VHS tapes back then.📼
Lmfao
Satoshi Kon would have turned 60 yesterday. How time flies.
Wow Happy Birthday day Satoshi

TWO WORDS FOR THIS MOVIE: BEAUTIFULLY BIZARRE.
This song has a distinct 80s new wave feel to it, something I would have listened to in the car growing up.
This gives me a pure sense of freedom and joy
4:00 - This is how I imagine it would sound if you played every Enya song at the same time
Holy crap, I just finished watching this movie and it was such a ride.
crazy movie but i like it... and love that song!
While this and The Girl in Byakkoya are musically similar, they're different in instrumentation and tone. Byakkoya is more mysterious and surreal, while this is exuberant and adventurous.
aresef Like the sides of Paprika itself, ohhh I see it now

The song just comes to me sometimes oh and this film is what Inception should've been 🤦♂️
I love ,this Movie so much
best version of the song, i still love susumu to death as a singer and composer, but this song is so much better without the male lyrics.
idk why but I open A drop filled with memories along with the music and it done pretty well to each other.
this song is awesome!

Satoshi Kon's movies are always a little WTF, but that one... was really completely crazy. And boy did I love this!
