The only reason Gon lost his arm was because he wanted to prove to Genthru he wasn't weak. Gons pride overrides everything.
He didn't need to prove anything to Genthru. He wanted to prove to himself that he could take on someone so advanced like Genthru. To training I guess, similar to how he went on fought his first nen battle in heaven's arena.
The reason he lost his arm was deeply rooted in his characteristics.
His lack of self-preservation and the fact that he's inherently a nutjob.

Gon is fearsome because he doesn't use logic or reasoning. His emotions are number one! That is why he is so similar to an animal. People like Gon are very hard to figure out because of how unpredictable their actions are which is what made Genthru shit himself.

They planned everything. Gon chose to deviate from the plan in order to prove he could at least land a hit on genthru (should sound familiar at this point). Had he stuck to the plan, he would've had a swollen eye and a couple bruises at most. But either way, he had a fall back.

I understand Rob in the sense that we all thought like him before seeing Hunter x Hunter, we were used to the relationships and rivalries between the protagonist and his "friend", typical as Naruto and Sasuke for example.
Hunter x Hunter left us shocked every time we watched an episode because it was nothing like usual, more in the next arc where everything is impossible to predict.
Kechu Gonzalez personally it was clear from the beginning that the relationship with Gon and Killua wouldnt be the same because what Killua sought out was a friend he was more open to conversation and didn't push people away like Sasuke
Why are you people so against this, Gon vs Killua will be so interesting and amazing. I would love to see the moves and techniques Gon and Killua use to battle each other with. It just seems fans hate it because it's such a common theme in most battle shounen. And wanting Hunter x Hunter to be excluded from that because they want it to different from other shounen.

This is an important thing to remember. Gon like an animal, most dangerous in his lowest, cornered state. He will give up both his arms for a strategic kick.
This next arc is long, but once you get past episode 90, the rest of the arc will feel like it flew by. That’s how good it is.
Congratz yall have officially passed the halfway point of this anime. (It has a total of 148 ep) and we are about to get into (arguably) the best arc of hunter x hunter. Cant wait to see yall reactions.

gon used a a lot of nen on his kick to the bombers chin, put 70% on one arm to keep it somewhat intact and sacrificed his other arm 0% nen. Pretty sick/insane play in order to bring him in.

I don't think you guys understand that unlike most shounen anime Hunter x Hunter is one of kind for a reason. Gon was selfish to deviate from the plan, but that is what makes a interested character. Gon is like most Hunter x Hunter characters in how they're more than one dimensional characters.
