  • We often come to Jesus for consolation. But do we ever think of consoling Jesus? Adoration is Jesus's gift to us, and it allows us to console the suffering Heart of Our Lord.

    For those who cannot go in person...send your angel! Also, there are many youtube channels with 24-7 (perpetual) Adoration, and many other channels with specials times for adoration. I am going on 76, and cannot always get out to adoration...so I find a channel, send my angel to be there in my place, and I say my prayers in a distraction-free area, with pictures of Jesus, Mary. GOD KNOWS our heart's desire to be there in front of Him, but also knows if we simply cannot! He hears our prayers!

    I am always perplexed by the mystery of wounding vs consoling the Heart of Jesus. What does this mean since we cannot truly hurt God...

    • @stedwardonthelake
      @stedwardonthelake  Před rokem +12

      Modernism has always tried to minimize the effects of sin, which is probably why few people speak of the need of consoling Jesus. But that has always been a part of traditional Catholic spirituality.
      When we say that our sin doesn’t hurt God:
      1. It depersonalizes sin to make it just a legal offense. It's not an offense against a person, just something that’s "against the rules". But sin really hurts. It really does wound. It harms relationships not only between one another but against us and God.
      2. It depersonalizes Jesus. God is a real Person. Jesus’s Heart is a real Heart that loves with a real love. We heard in the Gospel today that His Heart was moved with pity. It brings joy to His Heart when we grow in holiness. And it wounds His Heart when we sin.
      Love hurts. And the greater the love, the greater the hurt. And God loves us with an infinite love. Actually, knowing that our sin hurts God can be the best motivation to avoid sin if we truly love Him.

      @@stedwardonthelake Thank you, your words leave me with something to think about...beyond the legal offense view

      We certainly can displease God and if we fail to form a relationship with Him than we disappoint Him. As he said in the garden, Can you not pray one hour with me? It is because He loves us that He is wounded when we do not strive to know him. What was the first thing Jesus did when He was told that Lazarus had died? He cried. He allows Himself pain for love of us (crucifixion). Does he have to do this? His choice. He is the Father is the Bible story that rejoices when the Prodigal son returns. He always loves and always forgives.

    God is complete in Himself so why does He need consolation from people?

    • @stedwardonthelake
      @stedwardonthelake  Před 10 měsíci +5

      You're absolutely right: God is complete in Himself. It's not that He NEEDS our consolation, but it is what LOVE requires. For love to be true, it has to go both ways. In any relationship, but especially in our relationship with God. It can't just be that we ask Him to console us.
      Jesus said, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me" (Mt 26:38). Love should move us to want to console Him in His sorrow. It should be an instinct.
      How do we do console Him? By being faithful to Him. By spending time with Him in prayer and worship. That's why religion isn't about me and what religion can do for me. It's about what love owes to God.

    Thank you Father, this clip reviving my heart because similarly the content is in the book " An Appeal to Love" where Jesus says " I am the prisoner of Love" which I read some 30 years ago.
