In my opinion this is a Top 5 halftime show of all time. To be fair I’m a huge Usher fan, but I just think he delivered a fantastic performance while still being able to deliver great vocals. What a show!
Top 10 easily. nota big enough spectacle for top 5 though imo. It lost some energy with the sleepy R&B slow jams. I like those r&B songs but at the Super Bowl? It’s not bed time, it’s party time! R&B slow jams at a halftime show is a hard sell when people are trying to celebrate. Thankfully he turned up the energy in the end and it started feeling more like a halftime show rather than a concert or awards show performance. The end really brought it to a Super Bowl level performance.

That doesn’t change the fact that r&b slow jams are a hard sell at a Super Bowl halftime show, is. its not a concert, or an award show, it’s halftime. Halftime is not an intimate affair. Halftime is larger than life. Usher has much more energetic songs that he didn’t perform. I’m happy for the people who preferred the first half. 👏

This halftime show was an homage to his discography, his Mom, MJ, Prince, Marvin Gaye, HBCUs, Atlanta, Vegas and probably more. It was fantastic! I think comparing performances at this point is useless. The bar has been really high for a long time so people just need to be open to being entertained regardless of the artist or music genre.

It was one of the best halftime shows given after 2010. I personally can't compare MJ or Prince with Usher. They're not from the same era musically and this includes dance styles. I try to compare Usher with people in his era. Not many are still dancing and singing through a whole show like Usher. Not at this level. Plus, he's in his mid-40's. Let's factor this in the equation. I will say Chris Brown would do a great show as far as dancing is concerned, but he doesn't have the Usher catalog from decades of music. What's so cool is Usher is still relevant. I actually loved the marrying of the two themes he used. The first half was homage to Las Vegas vibes, which he just completed, the second was ATL. He basically saying the Superbowl was his last Vegas show of his residency. The sequence of the show was his history timeline in a sense and it all made sense to me. We all remember where we were in our life with these songs. Middle school, high school , etc. Very nostalgic. I give him a round of applause.

It was lit after the roller skates came out 🛼 the first half had some lulls. The opening was too busy, it was distracting and didn’t fit his brand. Plus R&B slow jams are a hard sell at the Super Bowl. You want high energy music.
