  • What the heck is a crinoid? They might be one of the most common fossils this side of the Rocky mountains but they are seriously cool.

    I found a crinoid fossil on my path in my backyard in England. Part of the stem and the top as well!

    Theres literally thousands of these in my yard and hillside. Some huge ones surfaced after flood rains yesterday. So big I cant dig up. Middle Tn

    Kentucky here. I spent my childhood summers searching for crinoids. Never knew they were animals. Fascinating. Nice video. I appreciate your research.

    In north central Tennessee, we find the 'stem' parts of this ancient creature in a local creek bed that flows through a rocky outcrop area.

    I’ve found multiple crinoid death plates at my great grandparents farm in their pasture in Indiana. My father and I would spend time hunting for them.

    The Great Lakes were also an inland salt water sea and Crinoids are found there too along with Trilobites, Brachiopods, etc...

    Nice video! I've found tons of small pieces of crinoids in white gravel, sadly all crushed up

    The map with the inland sea was from the Mesozoic Era when there were very few crinoids after the end-Permian extinction. Most Crinoid fossils you find are from the Carboniferous Period roughly 2 to three times older when much of the western U.S. was covered by what we call the Pacific Ocean today.

    I found one on a west Scotland beach 45 years ago still have it, about 4mil wide and 10 mil long in wee segments, looking at a chip from it it looks like a mother of peril milky colour under the crust, is it a sort of mother of peril

      My yard if FULL of these. Very large ones too. Theres so many I cant even begin to collect tbem all. Franklin, Tn. 20 miles south of nashville
