Being married or having kids with a American doesnt do much to become citizen. Only thing it has done from what i have seen is instead of going back to where you came from for the whole paper process they just send you back for couple days at end of process especially if your the main income of your family.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. A lot of these comments are absolutely heartless too. We all knoe Joe should've done the proper paperwork, but it doesn't mean he's not going through hell in there. I just don't get how people can be so heartless.

Joe has lived in the U.S. almost his entire life. Why in the world would he be so careless about getting his citizenship? He’s such a fool and so is Teresa. They brought all of their misfortune onto themselves and they’re still blaming others for the consequences of separating their family and leaving their girls without their dad.

Ultimately Joe's citizenship issues fall on him but their entire family knew about this. Teresa must have known about this all along, too, so she is complicit in it for being so lackadaisical about this too.
He was a permanent resident with a greencard which allowed him to live as a citizen. Unfortunately, those with a greencard can get deported if they commit a serious crime such as an aggravated felony. He probably didn't think he was going to get caught.
Never got his US citizenship, committed felonies , withholding taxes ( the irony ) ,but it’s somebody else ruining his kids lives and his marriage .

Speaking from a person who has lived in other countries, If an American went to another country and committed a crime we would be deported as well. This is a sad situation and I feel for them but he knew the risks. I knew someone sent back for getting a DUI. The law is the law whether you like it or not.

It was stupid of his parents not to apply for his when they did theirs but Joe was wrong for not applying for it once he got older.
He wasn't an illegal alien thought. Many individuals with a Green Card don't apply for Citizenship.

Everyone keeps saying shoulda got his citizenship but wouldn't he still be deported as he wasn't born American? In the UK you can keep British citizenship as a non born British person but you can be deported if you break the law because the passport is seen as a privilege. Even people born in the UK to non British parents could be deported to their parents' country in certain circumstances
