This version with the blue and red stripes seems MUCH easier to "flip" than just the normal silhoutte, at least for me. Suddenly, she was dancing backwards and forwards whenever I switched by focus from side to side. This is weird. I remember when I cousin showed me this or something like it many years ago. I kept only seeing it one way, until I suddenly thought, "isn't it going the other way, now?" That was really creepy. And also a good encouragement for self-doubt and skepticism, and to think more before deciding which is which and what is what.
you can try change your speed to slow, it can flip the normal silhoutte a little bit easier because the blue and red stripes was slow than the normal sillhoute
Having the frame of reference on the limbs makes it much easier to switch. The figure in the middle if it’s by itself leaves me seeing her spinning clockwise most of the time.
For those that can only see her spinning one side no matter how much you focus, just keep at it. I was only able to see her clockwise at first but after some concentration I can make her change direction pretty much at will. you'll find a nice focus point after some time, maybe the hand, hip or foot, and it'll just happen automatically. Caught me by surprise the first time I did it!
For me it's the shadow below her, i can change direction pretty quick just by looking at the shadow and flipping the show first and then focus back on her ^^
Near the foot, that's my focus point, according to other people, it's the best focus point. I mean, I can make my brain it'll go behind the leg or not, I can even make her break her foot
Amiguous motion/rotation is tranferred across objects. The woman on the left is marked with highlights such that she is unambiguosly perceived as rotating clockwise on her left foot, while the woman on the right has been designed such that she always rotates counterclockwise on her right foot. When the perceived rotation of any one of the 3 women "flips" direction of rotation, the perceived direction of the other two flip simultaneously with her. You can force which direcion they all rotate by choosing to view either the left- or right-hand woman. This illustrates extremely long-range interactions in the visual cortex, and highlighs the strong neural drive to bind and group objects. Such effects are controlled by higher brain mechanisms (top-down) that modulate the incoming stream of visual data (bottom-up) that extract more low-level features of the visual scene.
So the way I like to think of how she spins one way or the other is determining which foot is on the ground, her left foot or her right foot 🦶. Since she is leaning backwards, her spin would naturally fall toward the leg that's sticking out. If her left foot is on the ground, then her right leg is sticking out. Thus, she naturally falls clockwise, using her right arm to maintain her balance. If her right foot is on the ground, then her left leg is sticking out. Thus, she naturally falls counterclockwise, using her left arm to keep her balance. This all comes into place due to the way she is leaning. It would be practically impossible to turn clockwise if her right foot was the one on the ground. When I insist that a certain foot is on the ground, my brain takes a bit to realize the orientation of the other parts of the body. Once, I subconsciously determine it's impossible to turn the way I saw she was turning before, it switches directions.
whats really cool with the 2 on the left and right is that if you look at one and then the center, she is spinning that way, and if you then look at the other, she is spinning that way so you can look at each one alteranting and it looks like shes just swinging back and forth instead of spinning in a circle.
I’m literally having a headache, I can finally see it spinning to the right with reference, but I just can’t unsee left spin because it’s literally how it generally looks like for me
So I think I understand why the standard silhouette is so difficult for me or others to flip without this video; the visual change in perceived rotational motion happens differently from person to person. As an example, people who focus on the arms or legs/feet first will have the visualization of their preferred perceived direction be more cemented. The head is slightly weaker in this regard, but is still somewhat difficult to flip by using it (for me). In my case imagining her thigh swinging counterclockwise for a kick is what triggers the flip to counterclockwise, while looking at her feet or hands for a short period of time resets her back to a clockwise rotation again. An annoying illusion to figure out through verbal explanation because the change you’re supposed to see is triggered differently from person to person, but seeing this video makes visualizing the flip much easier, as well as figuring out what triggers seeing the flip for the viewer.
I was finally able to figure it out. My trick is when she turns To where the leg would either be in front, or behind, blink and visualize the curves of her body, like with a red and blue lined pictures. I can pretty much do it at will, at this point going back-and-forth on each slip of the leg. When you do this the illusion looks even crazier
Cover 1 leg is leg is my trick. I found it hard to switch with out looking away. It's like once I had that initial reference point for directio it was hard to switch.
The reason why this make your brain think its spinning in one direction is because it solely relys on in being pitch black. That way you cant tell shadows in the figure and if you focus in the upper right of the standing leg you will see it change from CC to C. I put it in the slowest speed to figure this out.
With the lines I can trick myself into seeing counter-clockwise but when she's moving counter-clockwise she looks off balance and it's a bit jarring which is why I think most people see clockwise first, because the clockwise movement looks more natural at first glance.
*Cool if i look at the side ones it changes the direction of the one in the middle. And i can stop the middle one from spinning all the way around by moving my eyes to side to side and it keeps flipping so no full spin anymore.*
Guys… I cracked it! The trick is to focus on the boobs. Stare at them for 3 to 4 seconds then imagine they smack you on the face and your face turns then she will spin in that dirección… every single time. You can alternate from left to right or viceversa and increase the speed until you feel your head will come off or push the limits. There... You’re all welcome 👍
yes its interesting, i also see it counter and clockwise without the color guide Without the colors, i also see it not spinning.i see it not spinning at all ?? Its either the lady just brush her feet with her back against me or shes facing me brushing her feet side to side
I figured out how to control her!! you literally just need to do is look to the sides of the screen without looking at her, and the side that you were staring at she spines in that direction
If you focus on one spinning lady with line the middle one without lines will spin like her but if you look at the other spinning one with lines the one without lines will spin like that
I’m 53 and never in my life have I been able to see her switch! The only glimpse is way out in my peripheral it appears she is going the other way but as soon as I look boom exact same. 🤦♂️
Imagine that her supporting leg (which she stands on) is either her left leg or right, with that thing on mindshe will change direction that's what helps me
Interesting now I can make her turn whichever side I want her to turn 😅😅😅 I can ever make her just shaking her leg left and right with the help of first video

put your hand up front so you only see her head, then you can easily flip her ;)

I see her spinning both ways but my mind switches the ways
view from above vs below

I see a man so idk what that means
It's to the left, focus on the reflection

I changed it to anti then couldn't change it back. Lol

TOE TIP is the best point❕
Just pull her by toe in any direction you like 😉
it changes as soon as i look at the rigjt or left!!!!!
I can only see her clockwise the pictures don’t help
Blueshadow951 exactly
Cause on left the straight leg is red and left is blue
Blueshadow951 same
LukeJames you are psycho of you see all three going the same way.
Every time I blink, I can switch the direction. So cool. Even on three of them.
Thank you very much for this version! This is exactly what I was looking for 😊
In the first image you can swap back and forth, but once the references are gone it’s a lot harder to swap
I tried to do it originally but when you put the lines I can see her changing directions more clearly. That’s so cool!
This just, proves that reality isn't what it may seem like from one person to the next.
Thank you!! I was so mad that i couldnt see her spining left, this video fixed it for me. Amazing
Thank you so much, I was so confused, but with the red and blue lines my brain finally complied. You're a genius. Thank you.
Yaz!
Seriously, I love having the power to make her switch direction by just looking at her foot

Would be interesting to read one of your books, give a new dimension to things
I could only see it counter clockwise, but now i can see it clockwise o_o
woah I CAN ACTUALLY CHANGE THE WAY WHERE ITS SPINNING AT THE SOLO SPINNING ONE
What works for me is don’t stare directly at the figure but look at it with your peripheral vision then blink and you can reverse the spin. Crazy!
The lines you added really made me understand how the illusion works. Now i dont have to fry my brain anymore
Thanks! This is the best version.
This feels like youre in a lucid dream because u can change the direction of the spinning
Great video
So the way I like to think of how she spins one way or the other is determining which foot is on the ground, her left foot or her right foot 🦶. Since she is leaning backwards, her spin would naturally fall toward the leg that's sticking out.
If her left foot is on the ground, then her right leg is sticking out. Thus, she naturally falls clockwise, using her right arm to maintain her balance.

Oh thanks I watched the unedited version last week and couldn’t switch

yes, if you cross your eyes you can tell that she never does a complete rotation
I mostly see it clockwise. Whenever I see it anticlockwise I tell my brain turn and it turns back to clockwise, but never again to anti!!
to change it imagine it the other way and blink
Im trapped.... 😲😩😩😩
Im unavailable to understand this illusion 🤒🤒
Stop it, get some help!
If you intermittently cover each one you can make her move her leg back and forth
THAT IS INSANE BRO
Focussing on blue = clockwise spin
Focussing on red = counterclockwise spin
Best vid on how to manipulate
best video ever.
This used to freak me out lol, actually it still does
Trippy AF
I’m literally having a headache, I can finally see it spinning to the right with reference, but I just can’t unsee left spin because it’s literally how it generally looks like for me

Tip: try blinking your eyes slowly and make her rotate left/right
When you cross ur eyes so that they fall on top of each other, you will see two women with the leg just swaying from side to side
I can see the girl just move side by side by using both side of my brain at the same time.
The guy who made the original is genius
Not only can I make her flip at will, now I can make her turn 180 degrees back and forth no more complete 360. Thanks vid

Both Ways
Cover one of the sides and the middle will change, simply concentrating is pointless
At this point I am convinced this is just an elaborate joke that the entire world is in on, except me.
She's spinning both ways at once. Creepy!!
Cover 1 leg is leg is my trick. I found it hard to switch with out looking away. It's like once I had that initial reference point for directio it was hard to switch.
I can chose and shuffle her spinning as i want.
Lol I can switch their directions anytime I want LMAOOO
two in left like in clock and one in right
Its nice to make her swing side to side and not to let her spin haha.
The reason why this make your brain think its spinning in one direction is because it solely relys on in being pitch black. two in left one in right both answers ar good it is depends who use which side of brain woman or man...or Dexter...
Thank You for seeing me in both ways!

she's completely center, try crossing your eyes
woah
You can make it change ways by not focusing on her and either look to right side or left side of her
now i get it
Something that helped was a rapidly closed one of my eyelids then the other and it worked
daebak
hahahah
*Cool if i look at the side ones it changes the direction of the one in the middle. And i can stop the middle one from spinning all the way around by moving my eyes to side to side and it keeps flipping so no full spin anymore.*
I wasn't able to see counter-clockwise rotation until I focused on the right image during the transition
That moment they all go the same direction then change other direction 🙀🤯
Your brain tricks you into thinking the girl is actually moving
The mindblowing fact is that the girl is not actualy spinning!
0:05
Now I see her swinging over left and right, but not turning all thr way lol
She naturally spins counter clockwise for me
Looking at one from the left or the right and the the center changes her immediately
Just focus on the feet and imagine it rotating on the other direction.
Guys… I cracked it! The trick is to focus on the boobs.

i see her spinning both ways and just going side to side (MY HEAD HURTS NOW)
yes its interesting, i also see it counter and clockwise without the color guide
Without the colors, i also see it not spinning.i see it not spinning at all ?? Its either the lady just brush her feet with her back against me or shes facing me brushing her feet side to side
If I dont move my eyes and keep focused around the center, she is always clockwise for me. It can change though if I move my eyes.
Bruh am I the only one who saw all of them going clockwise
I figured out how to control her!! you literally just need to do is look to the sides of the screen without looking at her, and the side that you were staring at she spines in that direction
Trust me it works
The girls beside the spinning dancer helped me to change directions.
It actually spins counter clock wise because of the shadows
Its so creepy... I can change its direction
I saw both
By default I see her spinning right way, but after seeing the left one, I can do that, but after that is back to default again...
Just block one side and you can see it switching soo easily I got it to switch mid spin
Left side she is spinning 😎😎😎
amazing! my brothers still manages to not believe it and says its spinning in one way then changing to the other every couple of seconds.
It does
ah! its all bout the face and hair, once u decide which is hair and which is face, the rest just follows
Years after spinning......you get drunk
If you focus on one spinning lady with line the middle one without lines will spin like her but if you look at the other spinning one with lines the one without lines will spin like that

Original animator ever state the 'actual' rotation direction? CW feels natural but CCW could feel natural for others
It's orthographic so it doesn't matter what the original was. It would look the same either way

I saw her spinning from right to left and repeating that
I once saw it going right but I mostly see it going left

Bothe ways. When I tell myself left it spins left. When I say right it switches to right
