2 years late, but that part is left over from the carb days. It’s meant to allow you to lock the throttle slightly open so you can close the choke while the engine warms up. It is not meant to be used as a cruise function

I started on a 99 Rebel 250 and jumped to a ‘07 1200 Sporty after riding for 6 months (winter). Respect dude 👍🏻

that little switch is meant to make the throttle twist resistance more or less, you can make the grip easiest or harder to twist depending in your preference, it's not really meant to be used at cruise control for the same reasons you were pointing out about not being able to shut off throttle in bad situations

I've only had mine a couple of weeks now so I'm still finding out how it all works. I didn't know they had a cruise control type thing so I shall have to see if I can find one on mine. Not that I'll get to use it much as the roads around here are carnage most of the time. I must find out how to adjust the headlight too as I was coming home in the dark yesterday and lighting up the sky more than the road.
