As a Barça fan I wanted to give a quick explanation to maybe help you understand the finances because it’s definitely wonky from an outside perspective. 1.1B in debt was how it looked when Laporta joined the club a year ago… once he saw this he took action with: Coutinho loan (25M in wages) Griezmann loan (25M in wages) Not renewing Messi… which hurt my heart but it was the right decision. Even at a 50% discount he’d be making (20M in wages.) Then all captains (Busquets, Pique, Alba, Roberto) lowered their salary’s just to register Aguero / Memphis. Then now here is what we have done to secure these type of signings: •Spotify deal: 280M over 4 years •Goldman Sachs: 900M dollar loan (you can find details in an article) •Sixth Street TV Deal: in two separate levers activate around 500/600M for 10% of TV rights for 25 years + gives a cap to Sixth Street profits if viewership reaches over a certain threshold. •And finally, we sold 49.9% of Barça Licensing and Merchandising for 200M which comes with a buy-back clause. Not to mention the restructuring of Umtiti, Griezmann for 40M if he plays 50% of games for Atleti, Coutinho sold, Lenglet loan, Roberto wage being lowered by 9M, Dembele on a 40% wage decrease to 6M, and a new wage structure that doesn’t pay anyone over 10M in the squad (Lewa lowered his wages from 12M to 9M and it decreases in Years 3/4.) The board is doing all this while betting on success on the pitch to help us off the pitch. Essentially needing to make the QF in the UCL every year to be good financially and if we won a UCL for example, over the moon. With a squad like this (hopefully adding someone like to the defense Kounde) I think domestic success and European success should be good… but it’s risky! But another truth is, that they already spend heavily in the winter transfermarket. After reducing the wage bill by 100 mio or so, they added another 40 mio back to it or so (would have to look that up the numbers, dont know the exact numbers). This let to, that they would have ended this year with a deficit, if they didnt sell their future income. This comes after they put a lot of the financial burden in the year before and this was supposed to be the year, where they started to make a profit. Now they adding even more players to the wage bill, but expect the players to make cuts? they have auba for another year and lewi is on a free next year, why not wait another year? the squad was good already. Sure demble is on a lower salary, but now they have him and Raphinia, with all the other wingers. we have to see, but honestly i am not the biggest fan of the squad and i think, things can get really bad really quick. lets hope i am wrong.

Ferran Torres, for example, was bought for 55M but it will be in 3 installments and the 1st installment hasn’t been payed yet because like you said, it would affect the wage bill. Auba as well, for example, significantly reduced his wages for those months of the season so he we could register him + end the year on profitable margins. Laporta, Alemany, Jordi Cruyff, Rafa Yuste, and co may be VERY bold, but they’re pretty genius for how they’ve navigated an impossible situation.

I heard the news about Haller getting diagnosed with a tumor (I forgot where it exactly is). I have so much hope for him to be a top level striker because of his UCL performance last season. I hope he gets well soon
