- Yeah I do apologize if uploads do feel slow, just on a slight burnout. I do plan to have plans for 2 videos for both Canada Day and the 4th of July, and going on vacation between the 21st and 28th of June, meaning I’ll be away from my PC and won’t have time to work on videos for a week. Nonetheless, here is another episode of BITE Sized Oddities.
A humble deadline within the deserts of Utah, filled with Union Pacific locomotives, rotting away due to the changes in management and corporate cost-cutting, nothing seemed out of the ordinary amongst a line of clapped-out locomotives. However, one night, a group of graffiti artists covered a worn-out EMD locomotive with orange paint, creating what they called “The Rail Beast”.

The funniest thing about this is the fact that UP took the affected loco out of storage, repainted it and then put it back into storage where it could be subjected to the same thing in the future. It seems a bit pointless if you ask me, especially if she's not going to be back in service any time soon.
It was to make a point.
Still
@@CedarLakeRailfannerwith the nose units on CSX and NS I won’t be surprised if someone dose this again heck I know someone people who are behind stuff like 1755 getting ATSF numbers and 552 getting it’s Sanata Fe hood back so apparently UP 9696 is set for something soon……. (For legal purposes this is a joke)
@@seymoarsalvage Expensive and wasteful way to make a point.
They could have just left it in the patch over undercoat and then put it back into storage.
UP’s massive ego would never let any livery other than their armour yellow on their rails.
First of all, UP isn’t known for doing things that make sense.
Second, if a quality model railroad manufacturer makes a Rivet Counter/Genesis version of rail beast in HO scale. I’m buying that shit.
2:03 mostly true. it did return to service in 2018. I caught it Twice
The Rail Beast should’ve been kept if they weren’t going to fucking do anything with it after repainting it
They don't want people trespassing on railroad property. They repainted it quickly to try and discourage people.
Someone at my train club has a model of this paint scheme. I never knew this was what it was.
Sucks that it was taken off, can't have good things
Yeah :(
Graffiti in the best way
I am truly surprised that hasn't been at least aftermarket decals for this locomotive. I need this in my collection.
They should’ve kept it like that but just put their logo and numbers back on it.
now if only one of the HO scale loco makers would open up this as a model. it would sell like hotcakes.
Apparently they do.
Just from watching this gave me a thought, what if Union Pacific brang back the engine into service, but never repainted it back to the original UP paint scheme, but only painted the number back?
I’ve heard about them doing it to CSX but not Norfolk Southern or Union Pacific!
Well NS got one too with an N&W one which was put on a Former N&W Geep
I’ve seen the original video all about the Rail Beast and I gotta say it has to be Graffiti at its finest. I always thought the Rail Beast looked cool and it’s a shame Union Pacific removed it.
From what I gathered, Rail yards or storage lines are not in any way a No Fly Zone to drones. Now I could be wrong on that but I’ve watched several videos of drone flyers over rail yards
@ 2:19 I think UP actually did comment on the video. I think if recall correctly it was on instagram or youtube
The one video I had been waiting for, for years
maybe they should put in a lot of security to keep people from paint the engines and cars
Railroads spending more money?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lund, Utah is the middle of nowhere. Stark desert town, probably 10-15 people live there and half of them are in a doomsday prepper cult. It is literally the last place anyone would take up a security job to watch some locomotives. I know, because I've been there twice (there was orange paint overspray on ballast where Railbeast was born actually). 😅
Most of the locomotives were removed from Lund and brought to Salt Lake City (and I wouldn't be surprised if some went to Las Vegas too) where there are security guards and cameras to watch them. As far as I understand, Lund is empty track now.
judging on the words from Operation Lifesaver, I'm going to guess that UP tried to discourage people from doing this
I will make a guess that there's a mainline alongside of that specific storage line, but I'm not familiar with the UP network and cannot make comments on that
Now i wonder if all of the safety markings, road number and adding a up shield logo to the unit (both sides somewhere) then maybe corporate would of kept it
Slim chance. They don't want to encourage trespassers on railroad property.
rawr
We need to find her again and bring back the rail beast... (I take no responsibility for saying that)
you should do CSX 7812?
Hmm are these bite sized oddities eatable like ai can learn a thing or two about them while eating it at the same time
The jenks Shop where I live has a ton of Sd60m’s in storage and some in the shop who maybe we can see the Sd60m’s back into service
Are you ever going to do D&H 7304
i was just in N&A3 driving this
I love railroading graffiti!
Yo my guy...where'd you snag that picture of NS 1650?
A new video about a short lived locomotive's graffiti, yay?
Very nice work!
Bro this is nose spraypaint on beer
the rail breast: YOU SHOULD DERAIL YOURSELF NOW!
Nice video!
I feel like if the vandals did not cover numbers, windows, or reporting marks, union pacific wouldn't have bothered and it would still be the rail beast today. I guess they didn't understand how important those numbers really are, and well... windows are see through for a reason.
I think they saw it simply as people going on railroad property for internet clout, if that statement was anything to go by. Railroads take trespassing very seriously, much more so than vandalism itself. Leaving the "unofficial livery" might be seen as encouraging people to do it again.
Why the heck does UP care about the paint on a unit they most likely will not use again
Railroads don't like trespassing, and don't want to encourage people to continue doing so.
Oh ok.
Still odd they took the time to put their paint on it
@@SignalMan9292 Makes perfect sense. Paint it back to normal. It blends back into the rest of the fleet. Like it never happened. There was no point in graffitiing the train. So don't do again. You darn kids.
They could have just painted it gray
Nice
0:13 no way american broomstick thomas
Rather bizarre❤
I cant believe Mr.Beast got his own locomotive before the Union Pacific painted over it 😥
Escapes the rail beast in Thomas😂
There should be rules for Graffiti artists: For example: No painting over numbers, names, and any other logo or symbols on the locomotive.
Include windows in that list too.
For why? It still would have been twelve seconds before UP repainted it. It's not about how it was done, for UP, it's the fact that it was done at all
You used my picture of NS 1650! I have the proof and the literal picture, but dude you used my picture! I’m so happy! But could I get credit? I put a water mark on it now, if you don’t believe me that I took that I could dm you
Credited you in the description, i do apologize if i forgot. Your image turned out nice
@@cowlunitproductions2004 no it’s completely fine! Thank you tho!
up sux.
I wish this video had zero musical soundtrack because the content is great but the noise over is is annoying as hell.
You don't like the Phonk?
@@rus0004I do. And speaking of, anyone know the song name for most of the majority of the video?
