Suvarnabhumi Airport opened its new SAT-1 terminal on September 28, 2023.
The new terminal will increase Suvarnabhumi Airport's annual passenger handling capacity to 60 million from the current 45 million.
With a total interior usable area of ​​251,400 square meters and an apron area of ​​more than 260,000 square meters, the SAT-1 terminal is a four-story building with two basements.
Here we show Level 3, the departure area with an open gate style waiting area for boarding passengers and shops along the hallway.
Level 4 is reserved for passenger lounges, airline lounges and other facilities. Level 2 is intended for arriving and connecting passengers.
The building is connected to the main terminal by an underground tunnel approximately one kilometer long. The APM system, the BHS and two airside service roads are in operation in the tunnel. The journey from the current terminal to the SAT-1 terminal is carried out by the APM, an unmanned electric vehicle with rubber wheels that is used exclusively to transport passengers.
Passengers traveling on international flights departing and arriving from SAT-1 can use the APM. The journey time including waiting time at the station for passengers is around three minutes and the APM can accommodate up to 210 passengers per train and route

Das Gebäude ist durch einen etwa einen Kilometer langen unterirdischen Tunnel mit dem Hauptterminal verbunden. Im Tunnel sind das APM-System, das BHS und zwei luftseitige Servicestraßen in Betrieb. Die Fahrt vom aktuellen Terminal zum SAT-1-Terminal erfolgt mit dem APM, einem unbemannten Elektrofahrzeug mit Gummirädern, das ausschließlich der Passagierbeförderung dient.
Passagiere, die auf internationalen Flügen reisen, die von SAT-1 abfliegen und ankommen, können das APM nutzen. Die Fahrzeit einschließlich der Wartezeit am Bahnhof für Fahrgäste beträgt etwa drei Minuten und der APM bietet Platz für bis zu 210 Fahrgäste pro Zug und Strecke.

But what does it actually do that is different to the original terminal? I will be travelling thru' Old Swampy in a few weeks, and I note that Thai Airways Inter makes no mention of the new terminal on their etickets. So my guess is they want to continue connecting their domestic flights to their international routes thru' the original terminal; thus avoiding travel time between two terminals. So the next question is what airlines and flight types are there at the new terminal? The best thing in the original terminal was probably the downstairs food court, as used by airport staff. The new place probably doesn't have that. It looks like yet another KP operation. In which case, it's subsidising the polo ponies.
