    Hi
    This car came to me with a misfiring on cylinder 2 and 4...
    This clearly, after someone had already swapped coils, injectors...
    After diagnosed the issue, things did not went as planned... but got there in the end!....
    Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
    Video for programming the used ECU:

    I'm having this problem. Had it looked into and was advised it's an ECU problem. Had the injector resistance measured and it's 9.1 ohms, so similar to yours.
    Anyway, I sent the ECU away for repair, it worked initially for a few miles, but now the problem has returned.
    At a loss on what to do now. No one seems to be able to diagnose the issue with confidence, and due to the rubbish circuit design even if I replace the injector and refix the ECU (if it's fried again), it might break again if there's also an intermittent short in the wiring.
    Think I'm just going to part exchange the car for whatever I can get. Which is such a shame as it's been reliable up to now and is a great car 😢

    At least you don't have people give you a part with a different part number inside the shell, drove me crazy for 2 hours until I oped the part and see the difference. Drove me nuts and learned a big lesson.

    I had one of these to do. Misfire on cylinder 2 , scope showed no control signal from ECU and inspection showed blown Mosfet. Fitted a used ECU and all was good for a few days, then misfire came back. Further investigation showed actual cause was a shorted injector that was killing the Mosfets.

    it's amazing how you quickly narrow the problems down to just 2 or 3 possibilities. Your experience of buying used parts is a big problem for me we have been selling used Peugeot and Citroen parts for 12 years now unlike most breakers we concentrate on 1 car at a time we go over the full car before stripping it if in doubt about any part it goes in the bin the bad guys are making life difficult for the good guys instead of looking on eBay for a bargain have a go to for different things you can trust

    Spot on Luis. I am wondering whether the ECU seller (or someone further up the line) decided to scrap the donor car due to a misfire that persisted after replacing the coil packs, thinking it was something mechanical. They should have brought the car to you :D
    Also, fully agree on the new used parts policy. Let returning faulty parts to the seller be the customer's problem. You are a tech not a dispatcher.

    But the question is, what kills the transistors? Could it be the injector short circuit? The transistor usually would not go out on its own.
    But strange is, the other ecu had most likely the same problem, from 4 identical channels the same 2 are faulty on two ecus. Looks there is something in the car harness so it tends to make intermittent shorts on the same wires? The lower resistance of the one injector could be a clue - isn't it on its way out (shorted turns in its winding,...)?

    • @amperugarage
      @amperugarage Před 2 lety +2

      Maybe a bad factory design with the wiring loom and shorts to ground, injectors, or a bad design of ecu pcb, poor heat disipation of mosfets or wrong calculation of amp/ma switching output power..

      The same type of transistors fail all the time in laptops. Just manufacturers using low quality parts IMO.

    • @timmehlittleloud2251
      @timmehlittleloud2251 Před 2 lety +5

      I've done a few of these with the same faults. A used perfect ECU or perfect repaired ECU will still fail after a while. The injectors cause it. Don't get me wrong, the transistors in the ECU aren't up to the job to start with, couple that with injectors that have some aged coils in them that have shorts between the windings, not dead shorts but enough to increase current draw while still working and you will have a repair that will be back. Always put new injectors in.

    There's an entire batch from 2013 to 2015 for ford Ka, of faulty ECU coil drivers, you buy a brand new ECU and still have your misfire,. Third party companies are doing a better job of replacing the drivers now, this issue made my own Ka unfixable at the time, but luckily became the dealers problem

      Look, if the tool is not able to communicate with the engine ecu, you either have a power issue, voltage or ground missing or weak, a communication problem, shorted can lines, or broken, etc... or, you have a bad module...
      Usually there is not much more to it...
      It could be the tool, if you have the possibility, try to scan it with a different scan tool, if the same problem, then as above...

But there is not permanent engine light. Checked with diagnostic tool and no codes come up. So i took it to two mechanics and they told me problem is electrical. And electrician told me its ecu. Why not take the good transistors from the faulty second hand ECU and replace them in the original car's ECU?
    And thus avoiding the hassle with sending it back and losing money on postage and looking for another spare ECU, and finishind the car in a shorter timeframe.
    Since it got a spare second hand ECU anyway, what's the difference? I'd say the second second-hand ECU is prone to failing the same way the other ones did, but might do it quicker than one with replaced transistors.
