Our visit Santorini travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Greek food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting Oia, Thira (Fira) and Ancient Thera while hiking all over the island, visiting volcanoes and enjoying scenic views and great local Santorini food. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Santorini tourism brochure, Santorini itinerary or Santorini, Greece city tour also known as Σαντορίνη / Θήρα.
15 Things to do on Santorini, Greece Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Σαντορίνη / Θήρα Ελλάδα):
We got our first glimpse of Santorini aboard the ferry and it was immediately apparent why this place has been linked to the Lost City of Atlantis.
What was once a single island, was destroyed by a massive volcanic eruption, and all that remains today is the caldera rising out of the Aegean Sea.
The first thing that caught our attention were the soaring red cliffs, and atop these, a collection of villages, all painted white.
We imagined we’d spend our week in Santorini just lounging around, but the island lured us out to hike its trails, get lost in its towns, and look back at its history. So with that in mind, in this travel guide we’re going to share with you a few things to do in Santorini on your visit!
The hike from Fira to Oia turned out to be our favourite activity on the island, but we’ll warn you, it took us closer to 5 hours, so go prepared with lots of sunscreen, plenty of water, and a few snacks to sustain you along the way.
Of course, no trip to Santorini would be complete without spending a bit of time in Oia.
Situated on the northern tip of the island and built on the slope of the caldera, this is probably the most picturesque town on the island, and a very popular spot right around sunset.
We had a leisurely ride out to the island and once we docked, we paid an additional 2 Euros and 50 cents per person for admission to Nea Kameni Volcanic Park.
From there we hiked along a gravel path until we reached the top of the crater, where we did a full circuit around the rim.
There were a few spots where we could even see active sulphur vents.
And that’s a wrap for our time in Santorini! We came here thinking we’d do a whole lot of relaxing and not much else, but as it turns out, this is a great island for an active holiday.
Our week in Santorini was spent village hopping, hiking the trails, learning about the island’s history, and feasting on Greek food.
It was the perfect way to end our travels in Greece, and also wrap up our Eurotrip.
Wishing you happy travels, and we’ll see you in the next video!
This is part of our Travel in Greece video series showcasing Greek food, Greek culture and Greek cuisine.

Oh that looks so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this great video.
🇬🇷
Thank you! We sure enjoyed visiting.
Yay so glad you made the video. Love the highlights.
Thank you very much!
Nice! You can almost see us over in Crete.
We're going to be in Santorini in Sept so this was handy, thanks!
That's cool man! How is Crete? I think you'll enjoy the hiking opportunities in Santorini. I hope the crowds around the island are reasonable. We lucked out visiting in March just days before cruise ship season started.
Thanks for the video I learned a lot from this one! Thanks again!
Thank you very much!
We were just there too but we didn't do the Volcanic tour or that epic walk you guys did. Thanks for showing us! - T
Thanks! Ah, if you're back again definitely check it out as it was one of our favorite things to do.
What a wonderful video!! I would like to leave to Santorini now... THANKS so much for these beautiful images! Thumbs up guys! Kisses. Renata
Thank you very much! Hope you can visit soon :)
Here you ''ll find some great things to do in Santorini chooseyafy.com/ :)

Thank you very much! It is one of the most stunning islands we've ever visited.
Really amazing video guys! Loved watching this and seeing all of the amazing things to do in Santorini. :) It’s so cool that you thought you were going to relax, but ended up taking in the awesome activities. Love when a destination can be so inspiring. Thanks for sharing! :)
Thank you! Yeah, we were honestly surprised by how active we were. We did more hiking here than anywhere else on this trip when our intentions were to just chill out...lol
Can't wait to see where you are going next, Keep Carpe Diem!
Thank you very much!
wow guys how beautiful in Santorini ! Thanks for news !
Thank you very much! It certainly is beautiful.
Great video. Santorini is on my bucket list.
Thank you very much!
I like the walking trails and the sidewalk like streets.

Thank you! That is exciting to hear. Hope you have a great trip.
Great video!! I truly enjoyed it!
Thank you very much!
Wow great video Sam and Audrey ...Poppi so cute
Thank you very much!
I’m going on May, loved this vlog so much 😍
That is exciting to hear Britty!
Great video guys 😁. We are going early April this year so your video has given us a fair idea of what the weather will be like then! 😃🌫️🌬️. Thanks!
That is great to hear! Should be a bit warmer and not peak tourist season by any means but some cruise ships by then.
Most informative video I have seen about Santorini!!! Loved it!!!
Thank you very much Ingrid!
hmmm the greek yogurt with walnuts looks so good!!! good choice Audrey! ❤️
Thank you very much!
Thanks guys from your newest subscriber!! This video is awesome!!
Thank you very much! Welcome and where are you watching from?
Loved the dog and cat food idea!!! Couple of tips: For those who go to Akrotiri, I highly recommend getting an expert guide. While the ruins themselves are impressive, it is 5x more impressive if you have someone to point out the little stuff you will almost certainly miss on your own. Santorini sunsets are legendary and the monastery of Profitis Ilias (that you visited in the video) is one of the top places to view one, so it's a good place to end the day before heading to dinner. Ammoudi Bay is also a great spot for a sunset dinner or for daytime swimming, but the Santorini water is quite cold except for July and August which is peak season and the most expensive time to visit.
Thanks for sharing those fantastic tips Mario! So appreciate it.
You guys are great! George is my favorite 😊
Hi guys I saw your dubrovnik video a long time ago and ended up seeing Dubrovnik last October and loving it. Then I was looking up videos of santorini and you guys came up again! Seriously thinking of booking for May 2022 to stay in imerovigli between fira and oia
What an amazing island 😘
Thanks! It truly is incredible.
Superb video .Inspires me to book the next ticket to Santorini from India .❤️ you ll
Thank you very much! Hope you can visit soon.
Today is April 30 2021. Greece is about to open back up to tourists on May 15 2021. I'm watching this video to get ideas. Thank you Samuel and Audrey!
Great to hear that!
Santorini bellissima isola greca da ammirare ♥️ guarda che panorama mozzafiato e che mare sensazionale cristallino
:)
Great series guys. We really enjoyed them all. It's really good entertaining viewing. I think George needs his own channel. Cheers.
Thank you very much! Hard to believe it is coming to an end. Hahaha...George does need his own channel. .
Wow! So stunning! Great idea carrying cat and dog treats 😁
Thank you! We love feeding them.
Amazing! I stumbled on to one of your videos again and it provided a lot of very useful information as always. Your vlog in Dubrovnik helped me a lot in my trip last May 2019, and now Athens and Santorini. What I really like about you is that you guys add places where to eat that is not vegan. Lastly, you share budget friendly travel tips. looking forward to watch more travel videos from you. Thank you!
Thank you so much Kristof! Great to hear about your travels. Where are you off to next?
@@samuelandaudrey Hopefully UK next month.
Franchement magnifique je passer le vacances là-bas en 2010
heavenly
It is an incredible island :)
beautiful video ..............
Thank yoU!
Everything is so beautiful. Do you know if those cats and dogs are strays? Or do people just let their animals wander the island? Either way, you guys are so sweet to feed them! Santorini is just so gorgeous! I've probably said this before, but I love how you guys balance your guides. You cover food, history, nature, and fun activities. It's so inspiring!
Thank you very much! I think it is honestly a combination of pets and strays but even some strays are very well taken care of the by the community and you'll find them in the same area every day.
90% of them are strays and treated very bad by locals. You see them as well fed and healthy because there are a handful of people tha actually try to help them and feed them. In greece, usually when somenone says this is my cat, they mean "this is a stray i feed"
Audrey you are the best! Remember about animals always. Samuel is nice too ;)
Thank yoU! We love meeting cats and dogs.
Watching from Beamsville On.
Cool to hear!
I love your videos
Thank yoU!
I just remembered, I love Greek food!
That is cool to hear!
Great video guys, took you a while to upload, you must have a big backlog !
Thank you! We have the biggest backlog we've ever had but we're working hard to get them out quickly now.
Next time I order food at a restaurant, I'm not just going to order from the regular menu, I'm going to ask for the "next level" menu :-)
Hahaha...sounds like a good plan...next level all the way ;)
amazing! love from india
Thank you! We miss India :)
That was a beautiful video guys. Thanks. Also I'd like you guys to add which month of the year you visited the place so we can have a clear information. I am visiting Hongkong and Macau and following your vlog on it. Keep up the good work. Much love.
Thank you! We visited in mid-March :)
Have you guys ever heard of Feather and the Wind or Way Away? They are super-cute vlogger couples, like yourselves who do a great job of budget travelling...I highly recommend the vlogs. 🌞
Yeah, we know of them as well. They do make great vlogs. It is cool there is a community of others doing the same thing as us.
I love watching all you videos! Especially in lockdown... It seems like you guys tend to stay in rented places, do you have any recommendations of where to book? Do you generally use Airbnb?
Thanks Zoe! We tend to use Airbnb but also check out Booking dot com and if you're traveling in Asia Agoda is really good.
Santorini looks so beautiful- you guys must have so much fun- Audrey should start calling Sam littlefoot being that they have the same shoe size- Hope you guys do the South America tour
Thank yoU! Hahaha..that is funny. We're off to Peru this year :)
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos AWESOME!! I can't wait- love watching your travels and adventures - love you guys
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos --- All my support ALWAYS
omg .. I went at Stamna ... it was near our hotel ... blue sky
best place in the world
Thank you!
Nice
Thanks!
Hey, great video! Can you tell me when you visited? We will be there in May so good to know what to expect weather wise :)
Thanks! We visited in mid-March. It must be warmer there.
Great video! Can you tell whats the name of the restaurant after you went to the museum?
Thanks for another thorough, upbeat video. Where did you book the caldera cruise? €20 per person is much more reasonable than the €50-60 I see online!
We booked it through our hotel and when we arrived we just paid the staff on site.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Thanks! My wife and I will be there in a couple of weeks, and we are really looking forward to it.
Santorini is amazing! What great views, those white houses on top of the hill are just beautiful! Although it was winter time, the weather was pretty good in Santorini, wasn't it? (Except for that windy day). It could be better this time of year than in crowded summer. As usual, I loved the cats and dogs, so friendly (and hungry lol). Is it true that they use donkeys for transportation up and down the hills?
Thank you! The weather was great to be honest. It was mostly sunny with reasonable day-time highs and cool in the evenings and mornings. Our trip was mere days before the cruise ship season starts and we were fortunate to experience the island without the masses. The one hill still uses those donkeys but they're mostly for tourist rides and construction these days as the old ferry terminal is no longer in use and the new one has a road bringing people up the island.
They have actually started a petition to stop the use of donkeys as it is not very good for the animals and not sure how well they are treated. :(
Anita Robijn That's good to hear!
Hey Samuel and Audrey! I was wondering if I could use some clips in my future Santorini Travel Guide, Giving you credit for the footage of course, please let me know! Thank you!
Best Regards, Onestopviews
I am re-watching to catch the names of the places....the cat part is so funny. LOL... was telling my husband that I found another Audrey who loves cats :P and that I am going to go there and feed them too... hubby does not like cats hahaha!!! He was rolling eyes...
LOL, that is really funny. We're animal lovers but definitely have friends and family who aren't so we can relate.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos hahaha! Great that your Samuel loves them too! My Samuel does too 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Aawww your dad is so sweet
Thank you! We loved having him along.
Thank you for the video. We learn a lot from watching your videos before we leave. Are the buses from the airport to Central Fira bus station and throughout the island reliable in terms of schedule? Thank you
Thank yoU! Yes, it was on time for the most part.
Thank you for all your videos. We are visiting Santorini next week. Where can we book trip to Nea Kameni Volcanic Park? do you recommend any company for the boat trip?
We booked through our guest house. Most are just generic tours but definitely worth it.
Quick question- did you book all the excursions from your home country or bought them when you were at the destination? My husband and I will be traveling to the Balkans from Canada this August and was wondering what would be best. Thanks!!
Well, well, well......you totally redeemed yourselves from the last video I ranted about, remember?...Thera is greek for Santorini, btw. What a beautiful video you put together here though. Guys. And I will have to concur with Sam. Audrey does have giant feet and I've noticed it many times, from way back to the vid I came aboard on, the night bus from Ho Chi Minh city going north. Or was it the train?. Anyhoo, It's uncanny. She is an amazing woman....:-)
Thank you! Glad we redeemed ourselves ;) Ah, those giant feet. Couldn't agree with you more :)
I love your dads Technique loll I would do the same 😂
Thanks Erika!
Sad to see Red Beach is not open. I swam there years ago on my honeymoon. It was very beautiful and different!
I hope it opens up again soon!
❤❤❤👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
親孝行ですね^^
ありがとうございました
looks amazing! how many nights should we stay in Santorini?
It really depends on how much you want to see and do around the island. We'd say anywhere between 4-7 days if you want to visit different towns.
Hey guys! Is it true that there's a part of the hike where you have to travel along a narrow road with cars passing by? It looks like such an amazing activity.
There was one small section of the Fira to Oia hike where we were near a road. There are some great hikes on Santorini!
On my bucket list I was very close but was on a cruise and not one of the ports see you again soon Greece❤️
Hope you can visit again soon!
Which month is best if you have select one ! May or mid September ? Any difference ? Please do reply! Humble request
How cold was the water your dad swam in? Will 2 days be enough to do everything that you guys did? Thanks! I love your video.
He said it was quite chilly (it was March), but it got warmer as he approached the hot springs.
enjoyed Santorini, would like to spend a summer travelling round the Greek Islands, may never happen tho :(
I hear you! That would be an ultimate trip. Especially visiting smaller islands.
Ahhhh... You didn't mention where you stayed. This would be most helpful to us. Thanks.
Thanks Grant! Here is the video where we show our place: czcams.com/video/2D67JzF1Vpk/video.html
@@samuelandaudrey Thanks! Now we know why we will be flying to Santorini. Just to TO, try the flight back to Vancouver from anywhere.
ALSO, this was the last of your trip to Europe. Can you direct me to the video of you leaving for Europe? There are soooo many videos on your channel I'm not sure where you began.
Does anyone know the name of the breakfast place?
Thanks!
Hi.. What's the name of the breakfast place in fira please?
Like that you are respectful of the culture and that you do some research about the areas you visit
Is the museum in Santorini? Do you have a separate video of that trip? 😊
It is on Santorini - the island is quite spread out. Unfortunately no separate vlog.
Thank you 🙏 love your videos! Where are you guys now?
Samuel and Audrey! Im so confused! We have been watching your videos non stop to help us plan our trip this coming September and cant decide where to go! We are leaning on either Italy/ Austria or Greece or Croatia. Any Advice? Its definitely last minute and we are definitely on a budget but love the idea of the Folk Festival in Austria but without having a rental car and with most places being booked up so last minute, were not quite sure how it would go. Please help!
Thank you! Oh, that is a tough decision. If you're on a budget Croatia/Greece will definitely help stretch your budget more.
Thank you for the detailed info. Can you please tell me what time of year that you went? It looks coldish, I want to go in April, but after seeing the highest temperature as 16 I think its fair too cold for me. Is it sunny at least? I think with the crazy price hike in the summer I would rather go to somewhere guaranteed to be warm. Just heard you went in March.
It was roughly 10 to 20 degrees when we visited. It is not hot but nice jacket weather I suppose. I'd recommend coming before tourist season as it must be so crowded then.
Oh my gosh! I want to feed these ants too so cute! Which month were you there? My name is Audrey and my older son’s name is Samuel 😁
Thank you! We visited in the middle of March. Hello Audrey and Samuel!
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Oh! We will be visiting in March too! We see that it is off season. It wouldnt be that bad right? I hear that shops might be closed 😅
Most shops were still open. It is a great time to visit. It feels like you are exploring the island!
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Hooray!!!!! Thanks Audrey!!!!
how long do you guys stay in one country before you guys fly to another place?
Ah, great question. On this trip we stayed a week or less in every destination but when it is just Audrey and I we tend to travel slower to keep up on work.
did the cat say I know at 1:05 ???!?!? lol
hahaha
What camera did you use to film at 120fps?
Ah, it is the Panasonic GH5. Highly recommend it and it can go up to 180fps in 1080p.
why are you guys so bundled up? august in greece cold?
It was a little chilly.
Hey what month was that? Good weather.... No tourists
This was in mid-march.
when was this season? looks not that hot and not so crowded
This was in March just before cruise season.
Which camera did u use for video?
Panasonic GH5.
Thank you
How well can you get around without knowing any greek? Or should I take time to learn some?
It's no problem..I don't speak any Greek (just please/Thank you) but had no problems.
Wow! Santorini looks like so much fun! I have always wanted to travel there :) I love these types of videos and traveling so much! I just posted a video of my time in Toronto Canada if you would like to check it out :)
Thank you! Highly recommend visiting if you get the chance. Oh, that is cool.. Thanks for sharing.
Hi guys
Hey Don! How are you?
Am I first to comment? (it’s 11am 8/5) I’m going to Santorini in May.
I think you! Thanks!~ That is very exciting to hear.
When were you there
We visited in the middle of March.
What if you need to go to toilet on the way when hiking? What do you do? Do the restaurants have toilets??
That would be your best bet.
Wonderful , though there should have been some more footage of Audrey swimming in her bikini .... she is quite the looker ... Seriously though , loved your Euro trip , I think my fave bit was Croatia and north eastern Italy ... Please don't stop anytime soon , you two are my favorite vloggers ...
Thank you very much! It was sure a trip to remember. Colder than we expected but overall fantastic and hopefully something we can do with my parents again in the future.
:-)
:)
Nice video guys but please don't mix sandals and shocks 😍😍😍
LOL, thanks
16 - Waiting for the next eruption.
Last one was in 1950 apparently.
Thank you for attempting to do justice to culture and legacy of this island, and not just talk about every possible way to swim in water and ride ATVs as if Thera was manufactured as a tourist play place
My girlfriend lives in santorini. She said it’s only bright during the holidays. And it’s usually pretty sad. She wants to leave and live with me.
Hope she can do what she wants.
Seems to me the people that live there don't take care of their animals....
Why do you say?
So you took a flight to Greece just to hike and feed cats! I can do that from my own neighborhood you know!!.
good for you
