    I've tried the stuff sack, box store inflatable travel pillow, Field & stream packable pillow, Sierra Designs dri down pillow. None of them have quite done it for me. The Sierra has performed decent on the ground but my go to is the Sea to Summit Aeros. I can use the in my hammock or in my tent with great comfort in either system.

    I recommend S2S as they stand behind their products! I lost the small stuff sack that comes with their Aeros pillow and called to see if I could just buy the stuff sack and they mailed me another at no cost immediately!

    I recent went to an outdoor shop, with around 10 pillows to test. The SeaToSummit you showed was my second choice (and best value), however the SeaToSummit AerosDownPillow was even better and felt like a real pillow at an 1/8 of the weight.

    I hammock camp, and had an inflatable pillow that my daughter gave me last year that eventually died on me last weekend in the backcountry, so decided that I would buy the sea to summit that had good reviews. Love it, good for international travel too, since I plan to retire to Mexico as soon as the pandemic is over.

    99 % of my tripping is canoeing and I use a real down pillow and slip case (weight and size are not as big an issue for canoeing) and it compacts to the size of a cantaloupe. I'm a side sleeper too and this has proven a blessing. I'm getting a Sea to Summit Aeros large down pillow and it's on its way, so will see how this works out.

  • @jpriddle
    @jpriddle Před 5 lety +2

    Nice rundown of the various styles. I’m a side sleeper and enjoy the Aeros as well. After @Darwinonthetrail reviewed the Trekology pillow, I bought one for my son. After a couple of nights between the two, I would up preferring the trekology more, since it has a slight curve to keep my head cradled while the Aeros feels like my head could roll to one side or the other. Kind of odd.
    On another note, the trekology started leaking somewhere, but a quick email and they sent a replacement right away.

  • @flashmanv3260

    I"m a side sleeper so I need a pillow. I mainly moved to a hammock, so not as much of an issue. But for years I have used the sea to summit pillow, I got the large (so closer in size to the others you have) It cost a bit, but I don't care :-) I use it in my hammock also, but only inflate it about 50 %. Great review !

    I'm not a backpacker, but I am an outdoor enthusiast. I currently rock the Klymit Pillow X. It's design helps keep my head in place all night. I'm a side sleeper too. In the military, we didn't use pillows... it was yesterday's BDUs rolled up, or something similar. A pillow "slipping" is something that a lot of people seem to have concern of. I make a small pad of reflectix that I always put under my pillow... stops all "slippage", and weighs nothing. Thanks for this video and all others.

    I'm a side sleeper as well and through the years I've tried everything. I finally settled on a cheap travel pillow from Walmart that actually compresses fairly small and I feel like I have a real pillow at night. I just put a hiking shirt over it and sometimes double it up but it sure sleeps good and without a decent nights sleep the next day can be a drag.

    Wanna know an Army Reservists' opinion on what the best camping pillow is? Well, all I ended up taking on a bivouac is a very nice cotton pillowcase from home, and upon arriving at camp and setting up for sleep, I would stuff it with my folded jacket as a first layer and softer undergarments as a top layer where my head rests against - My idea caught on so well that the rest of the regiment began doing this, considering it has the added benefit of warming up your next day's clothing. The other big plus is that it only costs as much as a cotton pillowcase which folds down VERY small into your bergen.

    I’m the same, pillow after pillow after pillow, never finding one that suits a side sleeper. I have just ordered the s2s Aeros deluxe because of all the recommendations by side sleepers. Does not seem expensive if I add up the prices of all the other pillow failures, I have probably spent more on them over the last 30yrs.
    Nothing puts a downer on a camp like a lousy nights sleep.

    I'm a side sleeper as well, with broad shoulders and I have a difficult time sleeping with anything but a pretty bulky pillow.I found the Therm-a-Rest pillows that use cubed foam are the most comfortable even though they are pretty bulky.I was using a western mountaineering down pillow on top of a inflatable pillow but they slid around too much.what I really would like if someone to make a pillow that is basically down with an air chamber in the middle so that if your hand or arm is underneath it will form to it. But it's also comfortable for your face. And provides bulk with no weight in the air chamber.
