- A very peculiar song on 'Innuendo', the last album of Queen released before Freddie Mercury's death. Delilah was the name of Mercury's beloved cat. The song features Queen members... meowing! When Roger Taylor had first heard about the idea of the song, he hated it, but considering Freddie's deteriorating health and the fact that it might have been one of his last wishes - he agreed to do the song.
I wonder what happened to Delilah, is she still alive? What happened to her after Freddie passed away? Did she miss her owner as much as thousands of people do...?
During the first part of the song you can see the picture of Delilah herself. The second cat is my own one, who was the joy & happiness of my life. He was put down on 23 November 2011, just a day before the 20th anniversary of Freddie's death...
Lyrics:
Delilah, Delilah
Oh my, oh my, oh my
You're irresistible
You make me smile when I'm just about to cry
You bring me hope, you make me laugh and I like it
You get away with murder so innocent
But when you throw a moody you run claws and you bite
That's alright!
Delilah, Delilah, oh my, oh my, oh my
You're unpredictable
You make me so very happy
When you cuddle up and go to sleep beside me
And then you make me slightly mad
When you pee all over my chippendale suite
Delilah, Delilah
You take over my house and home
You even try to answer my telephone
Delilah, you're the apple of my eye
Meeow, meeow, meeow!
Delilah - I love you, Delilah
Ooh, you make me so very happy
You give me kisses
And I go out of my mind ooh
Meeow, meeow, meeow, meeow
You're irresistible - I love you Delilah
Delilah - I love you
You make me very happy...
Oooh - I love your kisses
Oooh - I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your, your, your kisses
I love your kisses... - Hudba
What a quirky and kooky song! I dig it. Freddie mustve really loved this cat to pen a song dedicated to her. Apparently Roger didnt like the song but Freddie was insistent that it be on the album. I doubt that Mercury felt that this would be a chart topper, but just to show the world how much he cared for one of his cats. How cool is that?!? Fun fact- song was number 1
in Thailand in 1992.
call me what you like but it made me cry, so beautiful. such a true love.
freddie mercury, the greatest man and singer/writer of all time. I hope his family reads these and knows how much we all still listen, buy his work, watch his videos, read books about him, forever love you Freddie. what lucky cats to have Freddie. No one was nicer. Breaks my heart that today, Freddie would not die of aids.
Freddie was a great singer but also a beautiful human being! He loved his cats very much!People that respect and love animals are very precious and special!
I loooove this song!! And the way Brian makes the guitar "meow", fantastic!!
I think he was an very introverted man, the complete opposite to his personality on stage. So maybe he trusted more in this cat than in other people. Nice lovesong, sang with the power of his heart.
I do understand Freddie's love for his cats and his love for Delilah in particular..
I've had many problems in my life but i am still here , and i have to thank my cats ,they gave me strength every time i needed..Animals like us for who we are , not for our money or fame ....
I feel happy to know Freddie my favourite singer, was also a cat lover ..and i dedicate this song to my beloved cat TITOUTI who passed away last year..Freddie ,please take care of Titouti in heaven for me ...
I love cats too and of course I love this song.
Freddie adopted all his cats from a refuge except Tiffanys that was a present from Mary Austin.
When Freeddie Mercury left us, all his cats remained in Garden Lodge with Mary Austin, the great woman who I think loved and understood Freddie best (of course besides Roger, Brian and John).
My cat passed away 10 years ago and I still miss him, he made my mother and VERY happy, he was a friend to us :'( What a great song mates, I love Queen, I wish I had seen them live at least once, but unfortunately when they visited Mexico, I was less than 2 months old :( Anyway, we can continue enjoying their great music!!!!
Beautiful song for Delilah
I just adore this song with all my heart! I own a cat myself and I can't help but think of him and how much I miss him back home! I'm overseas on duty and I can't wait to get back home to my cat! Tiger, I'll be home soon!!!
Brian May also wrote a Queen song for his childhood cat who died, it's called All Dead, All Dead - it's SO SAD!
Only cat owners can truly understand him in making this song! This is a FACT!
I love my cat Tiger SO much it makes me want to cry sometimes! I'm in the Navy and serving overseas and only saw my boy for THREE WEEKS out of this entire year! Looking at him through a computer just isn't enough!
I can only imagine the horrible sadness that Freddie Mercury must have felt knowing that he had numbered days with his beloved cats. It'd eat me up on the inside knowing I couldn't see my cat! Poor guy!!!
i love You Delilah ;) You make me so very happy :) i love You !!!
Cute cat. I had to have my cat put to sleep recently. She was very old and ill. I miss her, she was such a sweet and adorable cat.
I've always been able to really relate to this song, as I suppose most cat owners and fans can. Love it, thanks.
This is the cutest song ever. It expresses my feelings towards my cats, and especially one of them who is my "Delilah" :) And Freddie's love for cats makes me appreciate him even more.
beautiful. RIP Freddie
I love that Freddie liked cats too. :) This song's really lovely.
Cats are capable of such depth and they have such complex personalities... Freddie obviously understood that... yet another amazing thing about him. He is very much missed by us all, cats or humans...
This song is so cute
😘😘sooooo schön zu hören ja regelrecht zu spüren wie sehr er delilah geliebt hat😘🤗 freddie ich liebe dich so sehr❤💋😢
Makes me like Freddie more so.
It's like a "goodbye" for his cats, a kind of "thank you for all".
I love my cats too! And this song is so sweet! Thank you Freddie!
What a great and fun song!....there's another song on the Innuendo album that Freddie wrote for one of his other cats, titled "Bijou", and it is also great. I love it.
This song is so sweet and full of love.
Freddie Mercury was awesome, the most talented singer ever!
He was amazing unique! My special thanks to this guys.. his music change our lives.
I feel same about my cat grimalkin..she passed away 25 Feb 2019. .had her 19 years.. cats steal your heart
AWWEE I LOVE PEOPLE THAT LOVE AND RESPECT INNOCENT ANIMALS, THEY BRING SO MUCH JOY INTO OUR LIVES, THEY ARE PRECIOUS AND PRICELESS! THEY ARE A BLESSING FROM GOD!
Simply wonderfull, Fredy is the best and a love the cats so Much too!!!!!!
I just have tears in my eyes.
Ich auch😢
Thanks for the info on the song!!! So good Roger did not stop this song coming out!! It's great fun... and my Siamese cat (as yours was) died this spring -- was our companion for about 20 years :) I am sure Delilah missed Freddie a lot....
I love this song!!! Freddie Mercury is so great and lovely artist. I returned to this song many times. My cat (girl) is named Flora
when i got Innuendo, i read the lyrics before i listened to the song... i was laughing, when ever i hear this song, i smile and think "i love my cat"
Delilah - I love you, Delilah
Ooh, you make me so very happy
You give me kisses
And I go out of my mind ooh
Meeow, meeow, meeow, meeow
You're irresistible - I love you Delilah
Delilah - I love you
You make me very happy...
Meeow haha that's sweet. :) Song about a cat.. I listen to Queen all my life and I'm never bored. xD
Just very beautiful .. love you freddie forever
thanks to delilah and all the the sweet pets that bring joy in our lives!!!! i
this song makes me a little sad for fredd,,
it shows pretty well how he hold on to the things he loved during illness
"you bring me hope"
how simple he became during that time, that flamboy went away and a simple freddie emerged
we miss ya fredd
I named my kitty after Freddie's favorite kitty. I sure do love my Delilah. ♥
I love this song... it kind of makes me emotional...
Aaaaaawwww! That's so sweet! I just want to give Freddie a big hug right now. =')
I'd say more like millions of saddened fans!
XD Gotta love a man at the top of the world that writes a song about his cat
Thanks for sharing that story - I'm a life long Queen fan and didn't even know that one.
However, I don't agree with those who say this is one of their worst songs. It's brilliant.. and for comparison, just check out some of their old material (from the 70's).. it get's FAR worse than this :)
This song is sweet :)
I’m currently laying on the floor, staring at my cat on the windowsill
I cant't belive that Roger hated the idea of this song!
this song is so happy! :D
What a song! It's so cute!
Pues a mi me encanta el estribillo, es divertido que un grupo se atreva a hacer de todo, y este era una de las ultimas voluntades de Freddie.. esta genial.. Freddie You make me so very happy
Glad that Roger Taylor relented and let Freddie record this one....Lighthearted and personal, it's a great tune...
My cat is my soul! Thanks Freddie!
I just love this song !
Freeddie was such a great meowsician, and I'm not joking :3
happy birthday freddie, you are so very beautiful , i love you.
she is so beautiful
You're the apple of my eye freddie!
My new kitty I'm going to officially adopt I named Delilah. She's a gorgeous tuxedo who's quite vocal. 💖💖💖💖💖💖
beautiful song and pics ... i am a cat lover and whoever hates them , doesn't understand anything ...cats are smart ,charming ,nice ...
Cziczeko , i feel sad to know your beloved cat passed away a few days ago , i do know what it is ...
is it wrong that i love to sing this song to my own cats!? they love the meowing part lol
i love this song, a few people have never heard it
Thanks Queen
@RakHapoelPT I saw an interview about it once- saying the rest of the group were at first very reluctant to do a song about freddie's cats, But with him being so poorly they relented and then in retrospect were very glad they did.
I find it funny how this charming song is followed by The Hitman on Innuendo. You get blown away lol
This song is defentily one of the more innocent songs on Innuendo.
the best love song...
RIP the white cat mymmom and dad owned that I never got to meet, Panther. My mom and dad told me that he would do loads of crazy stuff, such as stand up for my mom and dad's Yorkshire terrier puppy when he was about to be tortured by another bigger dog, and SMACK MY DAD'S ALARM CLOCK OFF, thus making him late for work.
@amodelqueso i know, right, it's just so amazing that he gave his time to write a song about his cat, the first ever to do that
this song its so adorable as his cat
Freddie he's still alive..i'm sure that delilah cried her owner more than anyone...
ps:your kitty is beautiful :D
I had a tortie and white called Delilah, am a huge Queen fan, never knew about this song thou, named her that so I cud sing tom jones' delilah to her! Shes still alive but lives with my daughter, shes over 13 years old now! Wonderful they relented in recording this, its a wonderful testament to freddys quirky nature!
The Brian May's "Red Special" connected with a "Talk Box" was produced this wonderful.
I cant sing this song without chuckling.
lovveedddd. x
great singing on this
I like that rhythm :))
What a song for a cat! But a cat can be very special! And so must have been Freddies cat.
Awwww
Love it!
The most famous feline of the Mercury clan is Delilah, a large, tri-colored tabby who was adopted in late 1987.
After Mercury's death, the cats remained at Garden Lodge with Mary Austin.
😻😻😻
Thanks.
Yes, it it really Queen. Freddie loved cats, so he wrote a song about his beloved cat, Delilah :)
I have dogs (and cats) and I like this cute song!! :-)
This is one of the cutest songs :D
LOL XD I almost fall off my chair when I've read that!
Delilah went to live with Mary Austin. Delilah lived there at Freddie's home until she died of old age.

que lindo, só uma pessoa muito especial pra fazer uma música pro seu gato
What would we all do without our cats? Don't even like to imagine.
miiiiauuuu miiiiauuuu miaaaaauuuuuu so fun
Funny and cute song.:-)
dr may kick ass with that solo
I find it really interesting how both Brian and Freddie wrote a song about a cat they had.
sadness and darkness....
Dante And Darkness
LUCKY DELILAH!!!
In Jim Huttons' book ,Mercury and Me...He says that Delilah ran away after Freddie Passed away..mostly cause of the other cats...he had 13 when he died..Mary Austin has the others ...but I'm sure that some may have passed by now...I'm sure Delilahs probably with Freddie AGAIN !!
1:37 looks like the cat is ready to do some serious karate chopping
At the begginig, Roger Taylor thought a song about Freddie's cat wasn't exactly a great idea, but he agreed as it could have been one of Mercury's last desires.
freddie and delilah. she is on a piano walking and he is playing while he gave her kisses
ELE AMAVA OS GATOS...
ROSE SILVA e nos amávamos o Fred
You have this on the record and right after.... ''THE HITMAN'', hahahahaha!!! I miss you so much guys..
Long live the Queen
a happy song meow
