- In this video, I am talking about the new 4K UHD release of Terry Gilliam's film of FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. I talk about the film, the production history, the supplements and the differences between this release and the Arrow Video 4K release from last year.
Check out the Criterion disc here: www.criterion.com/films/215-f...

Excellent primer about this film. I have noticed different color grading between Arrow and Criterion but both look pretty sharp. I plan to pick it up during the July sale. You mentioned it probably worked out for the best to have Gilliam directing rather than Jarmusch here. I agree Gilliam's work comes across as more eccentric which seems like a better fit for this material. I really liked Stranger Than Paradise from Jarmusch but it's very lowkey and meandering. Both capable directors and can strike the same chord but in different ways
yes both look very good!
FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS has to be my favorite drug endured mind trip movie. It could be said it had a perfect director and cast, Depp made that role so dead on it was amazing.
Yes, all of of things came together to make this so memorable
I got the Arrow 4k, but also picked up the Criterion bluray cheaply as it has so many features in addition
A good idea
Because in spite of his race, this man is extremely valuable to me.
👍
“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
👍
I live by the last nine words in that quote 🤘
Wait?! You worked at LaserBlazer ? Over on Pico?
I did! From 99-2001 and then like 2003 I think?
@@JustTheDiscs I lived in there , how is it we haven’t crossed paths? Met Tarantino, there and Ray Harryhausen
We must have seen each other at some point? I was there all the time from late 99-2001
@@JustTheDiscs I think the years you were there , I was living in Chicago and I moved back here in 2001. I used to jump between cities until I settled here in Los Angeles. Later years Kevin smith brought his comic book store into the place
do you by chance know, the included blu-ray is an old 2011 one or a new remaster?
Shoot I am having trouble being able to tell as it looks like the same disc as the previous Blu but could be new
@@JustTheDiscs I saw in reviews that new grading on 4k is very different, like colder tones, more greenish.. Have you noticed that? Does it look good? I guess if BD is new it has similar colors to the 4k. Thanks )
To my eye yes it looked good - as I mention in the video I probably prefer it to the arrow 4K
