    I've had a few people commenting to see if I can fix device. Well, if you're interested in having me try to fix your device, feel free to shoot me an email at fixmorewasteless@gmail.com. This isn't a paid service, just something I want to do to help those who need it. You'd be responsible for return shipping and any major parts like screens, so it's not a completely free service, but I'm not charging for the repair. Email me about your device and what the issue is and I'll let you know if I think I can help.

    Great information and very informative. Quick question though I did change the power supply and still getting no power. I checked the fuse but it’s all white and look like it’s bridged. The Power cord reads 120ac with both new and old power supply in placed. If it’s the ribbon would the ribbon give it full life. I would assume I would hear the fan turn on even if the power button wasn’t working. This has been an all day Sunday event😢

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  Před 5 měsíci

      Oh no. If the ribbon cable isn’t connected properly then the lights on the power button won’t turn on and you wont be able to turn the console on. Fan only spins when it’s on. Try pushing the eject button if you haven’t. That’ll turn it on as well and it might be making good contact with the ribbon.

      For sure good luck. Let me know how it goes. If you have the board out it might be worth checking the fuses on it with the multimeter. PS2s have several. I once blew one on a PS2 Slim while working on it and it went from having a light on the power button to not having one.

    I am having a weird issue where my fat PS2 shows everything fine on first boot but if I restart the console it displays in black and white over composite. I have checked with different cables and that wasn't the issue. Tried checking the resistors near the video processor and they are all within normal values 47ohms. I checked my PSU like you did in the video and it shows that the board outputs 11.6 volts. Do you think this might be the issue? does the PSU have to stick to a solid 12v to operate normally?

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  Před 15 dny

      How long between restarts does it take to show a good picture? I have no idea but it almost sounds like a capacitor issue. As if they need to dissipate or something between restarts to work properly. I’d suspect capacitors on the board not the PSU.

      @@FixMoreWasteLess first boot shows clear color video but if I turn off the PS2 and leave it with current then the next time it boots it’s in black and white. This PS2 is currently hooked up to an internal hard drive which makes me wonder if the current psu just can’t support regular operation plus power the drive. If it was an internal capacitor which do you think would be the culprit??

      @FixMoreWasteLess  Před 14 dny

      Hmm…what kind of tv is it hook up to? An old crt or a newer flatscreen? What cables are you using? If it’s a newer tv it could be that it needs to be on AV input instead of component.

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  Před 10 měsíci +2

      There’s a small ribbon cable that’s right in front of the power button cable that I think controls the tray opening and closing. The blue flashing could be from either that or the power button cable being damaged/disconnected. It could also be a different issue to do with the disc tray such as the rubber gasket connecting the gears or damaged gears.

    I had my PS2 die on me recently. I took it apart to clean it. After putting it back together, the power light became orange, then after playing a game and turning it off, my PS2 never came back on again.
    I bought a new ribbon cable, which didn't help. I then bought a new power supply and that didn't help revive it either. I'm thinking my motherboard is fried or something. I don't want to waste millions of dollars buying a million parts just for it to probably still not work.
    I might just go ahead with buying a replacement motherboard. Buying a new console is way too costly nowadays, and if the new mobo doesn't work I can just return it probably. I don't have any kits on me to test what has or doesn't have power inside of my ps2.

  • @marshaw6366
    @marshaw6366 Před 5 měsíci

    I have a question I had to get in my PS2 the other day to fix another issue, lubricantion of the grinding noise of the disc drive. And in doing so I wasn’t careful enough and the eject/power ribbon got disconnected from the system itself. I was wondering how disassembled it has to be. Would I be in danger of getting electrocuted from reconnected it? I’ve never had A PS2 before

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  Před 5 měsíci

      The easiest way to reconnect it would be to pretty much completely disassemble the console. It’s a real pain trying to get the ribbon cable in on the console otherwise. Possible but a pain.
      Make sure it’s unplugged and if you want to be safer, let it sit unplugged for a few hours so the capacitors on the power supply can discharge. The power supply is the biggest concern here and you’ll likely have to remove it to get the console apart enough to get the ribbon cable back in.

      It is very difficult and tedious to get the ribbon cable in. These days I always end up taking the console mostly apart so I can get to the underside of the board and connect it. It’s a pain to take it all apart but honestly faster and less frustrating than trying to connect it with the board in the chassis. Also less chance of destroying the ribbon cable and needing a new one like I did in this video.
