The M3 Touring comes down to two main issues. A lot of people see it as a sports car based on its badge. And second, the Touring's weight does not really play into its favor. However, both of these issues can be just a matter of perception. First of all, a station wagon can never replace a real sports coupe, it's simply not possible! Secondly, the higher weight of the Touring body has a good justification. Practically all the kgs on top are used for strengthening the body. As a result, you will notice the extra kg practically only when entering corners, when the front axle really has a lot of work to do.
Despite all this, it still feels it can do miracles on the road - mainly due to strong chassis, powerful brakes and last but not least, wide tires. However these deprive you of a bit of steering feel and directional stability on bad roads. In conclusion though, the capabilities are amazing, especially so on a dry surface. The 4WD Sport all-wheel drive mode offers so much fun.
Like all BMW M cars, the M3 Touring has a distinctive mix of positive and negative qualities. It is simply impossible to make a universal car that works perfectly in every aspect. This car is definitely the best driving station wagon on the market today, but it's still a little bit short of perfection!
