After the 80s, Gen X took over the music. It got real sad and depressing. Then, auto-tune, technopop, mumble rap and 9/11 introduced the post-American Century to the world. It just gets uglier and more dystopian every year.
I definitely miss the 80’s! The best music and fun times! I was 11 when this came out and I was watching shows like Solid Gold, American Bandstand, and MTV!

Sometimes a song comes together and it is pure magic. The combination of the catchy, provocative lyrics, Carnes' sultry voice belting out the long notes, and a not-so-subtle mix of 80s synth for good measure! This song was a masterpiece, a song that to me defines the 80s (like Toto's Africa, or A-ha's Take On Me.) We're approaching 40 years since this song came out, and it's a classic, one of the best! This really takes me back. I've been playing all the oldies tonight. I'm not felling well but this is helping me and lifting my spirits, music is like that. Have a good evening everyone.
Reading all these comments about events, periods and feelings that are linked to this song comforts me to say that the 80s had some of the greatest hits ever.
Good rollerskating song! I remember being a kid jamming to this at the rink. Dr. Pepper lipsmacker lip balm clipped to my belt. Pink satin jacket to match my skates with pink wheels...radical. Best of times.
I literally just visioned you skating past me in my blue and black parachute pants lol . Well back to 420 and recall the good times hour now that the little ones are all in bed 😉
As an 80s teen, this played so many times on the radio. Memories come flooding in. Notably of an ice rink, skating with my brother, I must have been 7.... So many wrong turns. Life can be terribly hard. I was never prepared. Parents never tell you the truth. They just bring you into the world. Miss the 80s and mum though....
Just compare this classic to any song here in 2020, 80s songs were more like timeless anthems with a irresistible beat interrupted by a bass line and synthesizers to create atmosphere, lyrically poetic with a mystical feel that stands the test of time.
One of the songs from my childhood that as soon as the first few notes are played I'm immediately transported back to 1981 when I was 11. Going to the fair and hearing this played on the radio. Driving with the windows down and enjoying ZOTS and swedish fish. Coke was still the best and kool-aid made with 2 cups of sugar. Swimming and riding bikes. Playing frisbee and thunderstorms. Ahhhhhhh........life was great.
true!! I'm a fan of the 60's and 70's but true that in the 80's they did some of the best ever.. this one is part of it! maybe it's also because we were in our teens (were you?) in those 80's.. as sbdy said below, life was simple then!! (for most of us I guess..)
Being a kid of 90's always had this song speed of the sound of loneliness, but recently came to learn this one too. and im all over in love with Kim Carnes voice. too good piece of gold voice

Kim nails it. The intensity of her vocals is only matched by Bette’s eyes. Supreme actress. She delivered intensity.
She was a horrible woman eyes stuck out like dogs nuts
Sheet tease you and throw crumbs at you.
Demais, amo essa música!! Nasci no ano que estourou essa música. Década de 80 é a melhor, não se fazem mais músicas de qualidade hoje em dia.
Ola melissa boa tarde te saudo do peru espero te conhecer pra ten una linda amizade
Naquela epoca a o mesmo tempo em que se desfez muitas variedades e melodias romanticas e rock pop tambem
Se popularizaran
So privileged to have been brought up with sounds like this. Smiling big
I love this extended version the best because the other version is too short! Can't get enough of the song
This really takes me back. I've been playing all the oldies tonight. I'm not felling well but this is helping me and lifting my spirits, music is like that. Have a good evening everyone.
With you on the not feeling so great. Trying to lift the mood with some long lost tunes!!💜💜
hang in there, everything will be better!!
Omg me too...I lost my dog last week and hurt my back again and am in pain... Using music from my past as therapy
Hope you are having a better one ✌️
U too
This makes me nostalgic of the times I've never lived in
Reading all these comments about events, periods and feelings that are linked to this song comforts me to say that the 80s had some of the greatest hits ever.
Funny - it is an ice skating song for me. Great memories!
Same
Just compare this classic to any song here in 2020, 80s songs were more like timeless anthems with a irresistible beat interrupted by a bass line and synthesizers to create atmosphere, lyrically poetic with a mystical feel that stands the test of time.

Cuando se hacia musica de calidad , que buena musica nos dejaron los 80 y que buenas bandas, irrepetible .
There's something so wholesome about 80's music not found in music from other decades.
true!! I'm a fan of the 60's and 70's but true that in the 80's they did some of the best ever.. this one is part of it! maybe it's also because we were in our teens (were you?) in those 80's.. as sbdy said below, life was simple then!! (for most of us I guess..)
This song isn't as wholesome as it seems 😆
The blue balls reference is especially wholesome.
the 80's took The beat from the 60's ND 70'S AND PUT IT ALL TOGETHER...
I keep saying it and will keep saying it, 80's was the best decade
And the Swedish girls were topless on the beach.
YES
Something about the "wet" analog sound and the Linn 9000 drum machine. TR 808 etc 909
Definitely the 70's
@@ibot835 u dont kno shit
Being a kid of 90's always had this song speed of the sound of loneliness, but recently came to learn this one too.

The sound of 80's music gives me a very specific feeling of memories and nostalgia, and a lot of love.
I was born in 1996....
epic decade, 80s
Me too, born 1999.
90s baby here, I’ve always felt the same way!
I was born 88 loved growing up in the 90s early 00's but I'd love just to experience the 80's for atleast a month for full experience 🤣❤
Just a kid back then but man it seems like it was a magical time

What a voice, what a song.
What a voice to match those unusual and exotic Betty Davis eyes!
Betty Davis Kim!!!!! 20/20 vision, this Kim in this song!
One of the best voices from the 80s. So underrated, I think, bc KC was way ahead of her time. She inhabits a kinda cool rarely seen nowadays.
Adrienne Dam , sei bellissima come questa canzone, e direi anche di più ❤️💋🤩😍💪🔝
Kim carnes ańd Marian faIthful has Graite voices and best of THE 80s
This song would coincidentally play on the radio when my “crush” was near me at work during our breaks or lunch. 3 years later we get married and right after, we get in the car and this song is playing on the radio. It was a “sign” for us that it was meant to be all along.
I hhpohhu
Fuck yeah bro, that's awesomw
Lucky you
I love it when a song touches my soul, this is one of those.
Igual a mí!💖
Quantas saudades desse tempo....era maravilhoso e ouvir esta música me faz voltar no tempo eu era feliz e não sabia...
Such a brilliant song. Atmospheric, evocative, melodic. Superb.
People will dance and listen to this in 100 years, that is how brilliant this song is and Kim's voice absolutely mesmerizing .
I agree absolutely!!!! I love Kim’s voice❤️
This will stay forever
my sister almost died from cocaine and that is the she you total idiots and almost killed this singer.
Hahahah
One of the best songs ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never got sick of this song
Eu tenho 19 anos. Meu pai morreu dia 22 de março de 2021 mas a memória dele vai continuar viva com essa música e com ABBA, com a Donna Summer, com Flashdance, com Michael, com John Travolta, com o flashback.... Incrivel
Remembering 1981, the first time to join Mashare Agricultural College, and the weekend, all friends went but I remained and the only friend was the radio. Ah, since then even now still hearing it as it is.
Sim , eu sou da mesma geraçao , 15 anos nesse tempo , 1981 .
Essa musica faze me chorrar
Rapaz sinto muito, meus pais gostam bastante de musica antiga tbm mas por incrível que pareça gosto mais que eles kkkk
I love her voice so much. She hits her notes and oooh it's so scratchy good. Searched for this song for ages after hearing it on the radio as a kid. The sheer stones it must have taken for her to write this and perform it is outside of my ability to fully comprehend.
Scratchy Good?...Excellent description
@@jc4evur661 I actually stole it from Bowie. I can't remember which song it was, but in one of them he calls something "shitty good" and it stuck with me. Some of the finest things in life are shitty good.
Your comment was crappy awesome...thanks for sharing! Lol@@rivercitymud
I wasn't even born till 1985 but this song was very much a part of my growing up
I miss waking up in Colorado... thinking of happy Momma moments singing that to my kiddo, Ryan Keegan!!! You are awesome and amazing. I wouldn't have traded those amazing memories and amazing people for anything!!! Know how much I love you Ryan Keegan. God Bless Colorado 😘👍😎☘️
I was only 9 years old when this came out, but man it takes me back! Funny how good music can make you remember everything...your friends, the street you lived on, school, family....

THROW YOU, LIKE YOU WERE "DICE"!
SAW A MOVIE ON AMC WITH BETTE DAVIS AND ANOTHER WELL KNOWN ACTRESS, SORRY I FORGOT HER NAME. ANYWAY ITS A THRILLER/SUSPENSE. SHE WAS PROBABLY IN HER 70'S AND IT WAS A VERY GOOD MOVIE.

This is one of my " go to, " songs when I need a pick me up. Love the lyrics and the beat is so hard to resist!
the words mean nothing to me. I dont even like them but the song is still addictive
Me too! Always gets my mood up!
I was 8 when this came out. loved it then, still rocking to it at 50!!!
Amo tanto, poderia passar um dia inteiro ouvindo. Clássico atemporal!

If you didn't live in the 1980's, you haven't lived. What a time to be alive. Unlike any other time in my life so many carefree years. That was the 80's. Oh, and Ronald Reagan.

That seems like a simpler time
LoL
What was really great about the 80's was cable TV..no more having to watch just 3 channels...
The 80's was the best of everything. So happy to have the experience.

Her lips a sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll turn her music on you
You won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes
And she'll tease you, she'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious, and she knows just what it
Takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo's standoff sighs, she's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She'll lay you on a throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She'll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue

She'll expose you, when she snows you
Off your feet with the crumbs, she throws you
She's ferocious and she knows just what it

You have excellent taste in music!! 😉👍
I absolutely loved this song as a 7 year old in 1981 and while in El Salvador. This is absolutely one of the very best tracks of the 1980’s!! No doubt about that!! but I will say the radio edit is better as it’s the one I grew up on
One of the best tracks of the 80s in 1981, one has to ask, did it get better?
How El Salvador doin bro? Great country! Lovely people!

I was 9 years old, living in South Africa on an Apartheid Era, these songs were soothing to us, even as a child could not help, but get down on it😊
Kim has a voice that you only need to hear it once and you'd remember it forever.
Very True
you got that right
+101limestone raspy but femenine
+Kawolski -- Her voice is quite similar to Johnette Napolitano's in the band Concrete Blond. I think they were a one-hit wonder as Kim was. CB's hit was "Joey." Love those raspy voices!

An old movie came on TV with Bette Davis the other day. Mom came in the living room and started singing this. I was born a couple years after this came out. Mom asked if I knew this song. Of course!
