On the right side of the Mack engine. You have to remove all assemblies and line's to remove the pump. Everything in that area has to come off except the turbo and exhaust. About a 8hr job in a shop. Probably two full days out in the field.

There are timing marks on the harmonic balancer for injection pump or on the fly wheel
Look under the pump there should be a bracket at the back part of the pump it helps hold the weight of the pump it must be removed. The three bolts you took off where the pump bolts to the block is where you split it.{Note Pump is heavy!} The nut you took off the front gear put it back on. That is where you time the pump.do not loosen the four bolts on the gear you can get it out of time .Easy to time if you have done it before. I would put a few bolts back in where you took out the six bolts just to hold it from wiggling around. Not very easy to get out on your first time. Get ready for a smashed finger That part in the pump housing that has a plug in it is where the Injector rack travels! Later Models Mack put puff limiters at that point so it would not puff a lot of black smoke When you shifted gears. Hope this helps. Good luck.

ALL 4 stroke engines have a TDC for exhaust, and a TDC for compression. The best way to make sure it is TDC compression is to take the valve cover off and look at the valves. When the intake valve is closing, the next mark is TDC compression.
There's a socket that is for adjusting the mack clutch that fits in the bell housing . It may help rotate the crank!

Take the cover off the timing cover and remove the nut. But you need to make sure the dots on the timing gears are lined up. You are supposed to pin the injector pump and I think you also pin the engine.. CHECK WITH AREA DIESEL SERVICE!!!!
You don’t need to pull that pump at all, each one of the injector pumps remove from the pump by removing them screws that are behind the side plate then remove the locking nut on top of the pump they then push up but remember to remove the fuel rack linkages
Wes is the guy to ask for a tip or 2 because he likes self inflicted pain by doing very challenging jobs. 🤣
You may need to pull the gear/pulley off of the shaft of the pump under that cover. Once that is off I would bet that it would come off but I am no Mack mechanic and have not touched that engine type before. That is just the procedure I have seen for quite a few diesel engines. As you said, you are planning on contacting Area Diesel Service, they may have input on how to remove the pump if pulling the gear from that shaft is not an option. =)

I drove the 300's and 350's MANY a mile, tandem, tri-axle and tri-axle tractor. I think the others were C-models. Good old trucks. We had a DANDY wrench man from across the mountain that took care of all the short haired stuff. I just kept them on the road. All the best and BLESSINGS!

Hank congrats on the new truck!! The Ford was nice, but it would have put you in the poor house if you had to try to fix everything that was wrong with it.
The pump has a very large heavy-duty plastic like coupler on the front of it which goes over a splined Hub on the accessory Drive. Years ago I sold OEM Mack Parts . The nut you took off on the front is for the accessory drive and does not go directly to the the fuel pump. I was never a truck mechanic but I think you have to take the housing and the pump off together. I think it's just stuck if you have all of the housing bolts out of the back of the accessory Drive. If you're going to put that pump back on there please Bewareyou can't just bolt. it back on it has to be timed correctly otherwise it can burn up the motor. The dealership I used to work at had some sort of a pump and Tool mechanism that they would hook to it to set the timing on it just be careful. Modern diesels have a common-rail injector system in the injectors are not fired by the pump they are fired electronically

You have to set timing on compression stoke at TDC and you have to pin the motor at TDC
Make dang sure the timing marks line up on those gears before removing the gear ⚙️ off the cam and I believe there's pin release or has to be pinned to remove pump.
That turned into a job fast looking forward to hearing it run again

there should be three bolt on the gear under the cone. once they are removed you need to remove the gear and the pump should come out. you may have to remove the compressor to give you remove the pump..
Mack makes a 2 in socket that fits in bell housing to spin th crank to adjust the clutch that may help!

I’m not a Mack mechanic but I had a bit of experience with them I think the air compressor has to come off as well to give you room to move and there are 3 bolts underneath and a bracket the injection pump and a small bracket supposed to slide off after that i don’t know if that gear pulley on the front has to come off as well or not 🤔the thing should just come out after that

I drove 18 wheeler back in the 90's as a Yacht hauler. I drove a 1982 Kenworth cabover with a 350 Cummings 13 speed .Had an air compressor go out on me about 40 mile east of Kansas city Missouri on I-70 in a Snowstorm from Hell ..Roadside Mechanic came out and had to tear the fuel pump out first to get to the air compressor in That Snow storm .That ole Boy never complained, just went about his business..I'll never forget that man ..I'm from Florida I could never do that cold . He got my Rig back on the road in two days ..He had a hard time finding an air compressor for that old Cummings back then but he fixed it and I was on my way ..He was Way More Man than me 😊to deal with that cold

Try Free All, idk the actual spelling but that stuff eats rust off!!! It's hard to find in some places but you can order it and it's good stuff!!! Most fuel pumps have a little plate on them where you can put a punch in to find top dead center. I love watching y'all work, thanks for another great video and God Bless y'all!!! I was a PB blaster guy until I found Free All, try it and you will love it!!
The pump is gear driven you might have to pull the cover off from around the shst st the front of the pump there might be a second bolt holding the gear you the shaft under the cover
been watching you guys for a good while bear with it you will get it take out a few more bolts cant tell you which ones cause it wont be fun no more all the best just listen to wiley
I'm guessing it's held in by a chain attached to the camshaft. If it's not gear driven, which would be a surprise considering most diesel engine injection pumps are gear driven. I'm not a Mack mechanic, so I'm not sure on that one. Hopefully a Mack mechanic is watching and has an answer. Thanks for sharing, fellas! 😎
There is no chain on a mack engine or any diesel that im aware of from that area
I’m a fuel injection engineer from the Uk and that was painful watch😂😂 easy way to find Tdc is spill the pump no.1 and turn engine x2 of timed pos of pump as pump runs at 1/2 engine speed of engine with it been a 4 stroke

On the bottom of the governor small bracket to remove re move air compresser put the 6 bolts back on pump the bolts on front of pump behind cover remove them and the cover on top of bracket there's a cooler on pump to line it all back up if you take the nut loose over the spring that is stuck that hole barrel may come out in one piece worked a a dealership done many of them

Ahs was just thunkin’. How about making some sort of Dolly to hold batteries with the connections already made and long jumper cables to start trucks. Seems as though you spend a lot of time making battery connections, when the proposed set up would shorten the time spent making those connections. Just a thought.
That pump has a timing gear on the front of the pump you will. Need to strip timing cover off bottom pulley water pump it’s a huge job to get that pump off. Your better off removing the injector pumps from the pump. It’s why they are removable so it can be serviced on road side. Bit like engines with wet liners they can be fixed in the truck without having to remove the engine from the truck.

Use a gear puller to remove the gear off of the front of the pump it has been pressed on.
My advice is to call a friend! Have you checked CZcams, there's videos on everything. Salvage workshop just did a fuel pump remove/repair and reinstall on a diesel engine.

pull the plate off the front timing cover. there should be 3 or 4 bolts that lock the pump to a gear.

FYI on the FT cover of engine ware injector pump is lower R/S you have 12 bolts or so REMOVE COVER AND NUT OFF GEAR AND SLIDE PUMP OUT
hi that front rusty cover i believe needs to be removed then there's a few more bolts to undue releasing the injection pump as the pump shaft is on a key way that locks to the front of the engine,

I moved from Citrus county Fl to west Virginia. Sometimes what I miss about wrenching on vehicles in Florida is .Laying down on the ground and getting ate up by fire ants or laying in a patch of Sand spurs .
Darn it is a lot job taking that s... out, radiator off front cover off ( will be oil spool inside that cover) timing marks on gears. 99 percent you have to pull that gear out than you can take fuel pump off. Not that hard job but there is a lot of things to pull out to get that thing out. I hope you both figured out that.. Timing gear is your problem its not letting pump out.
BTDC means before top dead center
Most pumps that i have removed have a tapered shaft that has to be pulled off of its taper

Injectors always have to fire her before the top of the compression stroke and that's what atomizers the fuel

the front cover on the motor has timming marks in the gears pump and gear set in the fromt cover and fly wheel
u can take 3 bolts out piull gear out then remove pump u can advance the timmeng there also
u hafta take the gear out of the timming cover
hafta pull fromt pump gear off then uncolt the tricone part next to timming cover
There’s another CZcamsr he’s a pretty good mechanic. His name is called Watch Wes work. I’m sure he could probably help you with that but no problem I’m thinking he rebuilt one or took one off to have it rebuilt off of a Mac.

In order to remove the injection pump, you have to take it off the engine. Then it will be removed.

JH and Bruce Wilson are diesel mechanics who have utube channels also and live in Florida, which, if I'm not mistaken, is not too far from you. See if one of them can help.
And something else you can probably do is you can search a video on how they removed that parts of the motor
You need to separate the pump shaft from the drive gear. It is a self locking taper fit.

That gear may need a puller its probably holding it up but just my guess
Might help to put in batteries and try it first.
