  • You can learn how to Crochet a Candy Cane Decoration for Christmas in this video tutorial. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. With just 2 rows of single crochet stitches, this crochet pattern is perfect for a beginner. A glue and water mixture then help the candy canes keep their shape. Once completed they are about 8 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
    I'm using Sugar n Cream for this crochet pattern, which is a 100% cotton yarn, in the colors White, Red, and Mod Green. The cotton yarn absorbs the glue and water mixture nicely, so the candy cane is very solid once completed.
    It is important to really saturate the crocheted ribbon strips with the glue and water mixture. Once that is done, you can shape the candy cane and lay it on a plastic wrap surface. Mine usually dry in a day or two.
    The length of drying time is dependent upon the temperature and humidity level. Higher temperatures generally dry the glue faster. Lower humidity levels also help with the drying process. I like to put my crochet work underneath our forced air heating unit, as you can see in the video. It makes them dry rather quickly!

    Would this work well with acrylic yarn? I’m just wondering if the glue mixer would still work well on it or not.

    You could also use a thich wire and wrap them around that, and then bend the end to make the hook. Could use a glue gun or another good glue to secure it to the wire.

    Would it matter which type of yarn you use with respect to using the glue? Cotton vs. acrylic?? Great festive idea, thank you!!👍❤🎄

    • @naztazia
      @naztazia  Před 3 lety +2

      Well, I do find cotton absorbs more liquid than acrylic. With that in mind, I made mine in cotton solely to be able to absorb as much glue mixture as possible. I have done other items successfully with acrylic and the water glue mixture, you just need to use more glue and try not to wring out too much water.

    • @naztazia

      Yes, absolutely. The tails are just so you can twist it without getting glue on your hands, plus, allows that little bit of extra twist right at the end.

    I'm curious, why are long tails suggested?

    • @naztazia
      @naztazia  Před 4 lety

      Easy to pull on the strings to straighten and adjust the candy canes when laying soaking wet on the plastic. Saves having to weave in ends too (since the glue will secure them).
