It's leather so you could soak and stretch the finger holes without loosing material (integrity) (try on an old pair first) Same principle, saddle soap and vinegar rinse (rather than conditioner) could get you some additional time out of an old pair. Remember water will change leather texture
Everyone saying “I’ve had my grips for years! What do you mean you replace them every few months?” Please just remember how much this man is training and using his grips. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone in the comments section, but if you’re doing gymnastics for an hour once a week, you’re grips are obviously going to last longer than someone training for multiple hours most days of the week.
Today at gymnastics all the old level 3s were showing the coaches their grips because the couches need to make sure they’re the right kind and this girl shows up and gives the couch USED GRIPS LIKE BROKEN INTO, WORN OUT GRIPS and she kept trying to say they weren’t used the bus we can tell they’re used
Watching so many people break in like grips and for dancers their shoes and sometimes even their outfits for performances it makes we think about our I need to break in my cheer shoes a lot more before I tumble because I can always feel a deference in my tumbling and how much more I have to think about going into with new shoes than with my old shoes
I used the same ring grips for like 6 years. They started to rip, so I stitched them, but they eventually bit the dust. I later made a set of ring grips, and I think I'm the only gymnastics who competed in a pair of homemade grips
At least u have foam under ur bars. I’m a gymnast too but I’m female so my events are a bit different as u probably know lol! I dare you to try a back handspring on a beam
This makes me think of whenever I got a new glove for ice hockey (I was a goalie). Always sucked in the beginning because it was way too stiff so had to break it in
he breaks in his grips by monkeying around, and i break in my pointe shoes by throwing them at walls and practically snapping them in half, so much fun though when i get a new pair because it’s a great stress relief
The grips last longer imo if you take a scraper (something similar to a barbecue cleaner that has metal bristles, preferably sturdier) and scrape the grips once per training day, I’m a girl and my grips lasted much longer 🤷🏻♀️
My grips take at least a week of doing everything on them before they actually feel normal again not to mention the tons of times I quickly break some in at the end of rotation doing toe circles 😭 I think it’s way different for women when it comes to easily breaking in grips I dread having to break in new ones
Out of curiosity, why can’t grips be hit with an abrasive tool in order to recreate the rough surface that was smoothed out, or hit with a touch of thin resin to make them a bit tacky.
We have to replace the leather straps on our rifles in color guard once they get too loose and we have to break in the new ones too. We use hair ties to put the strap to the gun so it stretches overnight.
It’s crazy because in women gymnastics there are only two holes for your fingers and you don’t have to replace them a lot like men do And it’s so relatable for gymnasts to break there grips in
Keep in mind! For most gymnasts that are NOT professional you shouldn't have to replace your grips that much Once a year for girls doing higher skills Once every 2 years for most girls That's how I've always done it though 😅
Why not pre-break 2 extra grips? Like, Day 1, break the ones your use for the three months, day 2, break an extra and switch to the monthly, and day 3, break the 2nd extra then switch back? Just to save time, but if it wouldn't work, I'd love to know why
what do you mean girl gymnasts get deductions for using velcro grips many brands have velcro grips for girl gymnasts most prefer the buckle because the velcro stops working good after so long
It's so interesting to me to see how ballet dancers break in their pointe shoes and gymnasts break in their gloves. So different and yet so similar😂
That’s what I was thinking!!
Yep, I used to do both, but now I'm just a dancer .
And color guard members break in new rifle straps and gloves
Except point shoes are changed way more often and take way more work 😂😂😂
same with inline skaters
“We had a grip shortage” couldn’t have POSSIBLY had anything to do with the Khoi and Ian feud and a pair of scissors 😂😂
🤣🤣
Yep 😂
underrated comment
LMAOOO, TRUE
Noooo, those two instances couldn’t POSSIBLY be connected… 😂😂
The way Ian just flew off the bar🤣💕
It was super funny for no reason 😂❤️
It was so strangely elegant. Just slip and plop
Cartoony af
The gymnastics version of pointe shoes
He went : "Weeeeeeeeeeeee"😂😂😂
it said "translate to english" and when i clicked on it it did not change
@@snowyice4231fr that’s what I was thinking
Omg! I hate having to break in grips, especially when I have something to do 😂
I love breaking in my ankle. It happens every time I do vault. 😊
hhahah
And then there's me. I've had the same pair of grips for 2 years
It was so funny when ian flew😂😂
Pov: ballerinas that use like 5/6 pair of pointe shoes per month💀
professionals often use one pair per day
@@oinkoink3669 yes, but just when they have a lot of performances and rehearsals in the same day. Otherwise they don't use so many pointe shoes.
I love the idea of putting the date on your grips
Sort of like running shoes. They wear out and you start getting injuries. Every 300 miles they get replaced, so pretty frequently
i can relate i just got new grips and they are a pain at first 😅
It’s very interesting to see people’s options cause I’m a gymnastics as well and I love doing bars and dead grips😂
The way Ian flew off the bar and went : I BELIEVE I CAN FLYYYYYYY
i need a timelapse of him just spinning and spinning on the bar for 60 seconds with 0 commentary
Bro I haven't replaced my grips in like 3 years 😂
It's leather so you could soak and stretch the finger holes without loosing material (integrity) (try on an old pair first)
Same principle, saddle soap and vinegar rinse (rather than conditioner) could get you some additional time out of an old pair.
Remember water will change leather texture
That's like ballet dances with point shoes except we go through multiple pairs a week
"Gymnasts rely on their grips, and when they get old-" i thought the gymnists get old ☠️☠️☠️
"We have to replace them"
Same! I was like, this is pretty serious! Lol
How long men’s grips last: 3 months
How long women’s grips last: 1 and a 1/2 years
😂
That flop when he fell of the bar. I can just imagine the Windows error sound playing.
For some reason I thought he meant the gymnasts when he said " when they get old this can happen " lol
Me too
my brain didn’t register that you were replacing the equipment at first i just thought youd replace a gymnast for a single mistake
I first thought you meant when the Gymnasts get old. I was like damn that sucks.
The way he did something super impressive and then said: ok, now I can start doing real gymnastics with them!
Nah ive fr had one pair of grips in my whole life. Think I’ve had em for like 5 years, we still going strong 💪💪💪
Gymnast equivalent of pointe shoes.
Everyone saying “I’ve had my grips for years! What do you mean you replace them every few months?” Please just remember how much this man is training and using his grips. im a former dancer and this felt reminiscent to me breaking in pointe shoes all the time in ballet
At first I couldn’t see the dowel and I was like “DANGER!!!!!!!”
✨bElLy fLop✨✨
Before big competitions, do you want newer grips or older grips or does it matter?
Older grips because it’s more natural to do routines with broken in grips
@@GymGurl102 thanks!
I cannot be the only one who thought he said wrists 😂😂😂😂
You should put a go pro on your head and do a bar routine that would be so cool!!
I used the same ring grips for like 6 years. They started to rip, so I stitched them, but they eventually bit the dust. I later made a set of ring grips, and I think I'm the only gymnastics who competed in a pair of homemade grips
I lost my grips the day of a comp but thank god my friend had extra 😅
At least u have foam under ur bars. I’m a gymnast too but I’m female so my events are a bit different as u probably know lol! I dare you to try a back handspring on a beam
You’re so good at this sport I’m a gymnast too
I just let my fingers turn purple until the finger holes eventually stretch out
Me too lol
I thought when the gymnasts get old 😅
not when the grips get old
"this can happen"
**controller disconnected**
This makes me think of whenever I got a new glove for ice hockey (I was a goalie). Always sucked in the beginning because it was way too stiff so had to break it in
Not too long ago I got grips that didn’t need sandpaper because it already perfectly fit
You could probably extend the use of your grips by using a ballroom show brush.
When you said: when they get old this happens
For some reason I thought he was calling his self old
he breaks in his grips by monkeying around, and i break in my pointe shoes by throwing them at walls and practically snapping them in half, so much fun though when i get a new pair because it’s a great stress relief
we use a thing called a wire brush which makes the grips more rough
God I hated breaking in grips, my hands would always get rips
a grip shortage???
Yeah I want to know more about this shortage!
We order them from Germany and I think there was a back log of orders
I used 3 hole grips. Actually won Ontario bar champion 2 years in a row. Way back! 😝
Bro I hate breaking in new grips because we would have to break ours in by doing our routines. It is terrifying!😂😅❤
Reminds me of ballerina preparing (breaking) their pointe shoes
That first fall I was like UIII
It's like pointe shoes, only they last longer than many professional ballerina's shoes.
A grip shortage?! I never would have imagined that could even be an issue when I was a gymnast 😂
When you said they get old I thought you met gymnast not the grips.
bro reminded me of that one swinging wii party game where you can get negative yards
the sound effect lmfao
That happened to me last week at practice and today I have to do bars again
Bro said: yeEtTttTtTtt😂
Bro went like : weeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I still have my first pair of grips and i've been using them at least 3 or 4 years😅
The grips last longer imo if you take a scraper (something similar to a barbecue cleaner that has metal bristles, preferably sturdier) and scrape the grips once per training day, I’m a girl and my grips lasted much longer 🤷🏻♀️
I have had the same grips for two years now 😂😂
I’m a girl gymnast btw but they way we fix our grips is like the way ballerinas fix their shoes
I'd literally just have a few pre broken in sets, spend a few hours breaking a few pairs in and then you're good for ages
I have the same grips since 2018
Bro it took me six months for me to break my grips in bars was so horrible 💀
My grips take at least a week of doing everything on them before they actually feel normal again not to mention the tons of times I quickly break some in at the end of rotation doing toe circles 😭 I think it’s way different for women when it comes to easily breaking in grips I dread having to break in new ones

real footage of ian giving us facts about gymnastics without bringing in a dumb but funny joke
True
A woop off the bar😂
I had my old grips for 2 years and I only stoped when they got a small rip right through the middle 💀
Point shoe prep but for gym
I hated grips, refused to use them. Probably why I wasn't a bar athlete and, probably why still after 20 years, still have the calluses. Lol
It took me like 2 - 3 months to fully break my grips in how are you doing it so fast
I thought u meant when the gymnasts get old at first 😂😂😂
He started backwards long jumping at the end
“Because we change grips so often we can’t spend that much time…”
Ballet girls breaking in their point shoes be like: Please!!!! 🙄
I kept mine for 3 years and I just changed them and the feel like hevan

Nobody ever change their grips unless they are obviously broken😂 had mine for over 17 years now and still good to go!👌😂❤
Keep in mind!
For most gymnasts that are NOT professional you shouldn't have to replace your grips that much
Once a year for girls doing higher skills
Once every 2 years for most girls
That's how I've always done it though 😅
Am I the only one who never used grips on the bar and rings?
Ian went: weeeeeeeeee
I have used the same grips for a year and a half😂😅
Lol, i thought he meant when gymnasts get old
Why not pre-break 2 extra grips? Like,
Day 1, break the ones your use for the three months, day 2, break an extra and switch to the monthly, and day 3, break the 2nd extra then switch back?

Hey, can you tell us where you buy them?
Do you use the same grips for rings?
It's literally not fair that the girls have to wear one with buckles. Otherwise we get deductions and the guys can just wear belt velcro.
what do you mean girl gymnasts get deductions for using velcro grips many brands have velcro grips for girl gymnasts most prefer the buckle because the velcro stops working good after so long
I wore velcro grips for years, no deductions...
It's completely personal preference whether you wear one's with velcro or buckles??
There's no reason there would be a deduction for either.
Bro my gym had a grip shortage for 6 months months So I ordered my own and God.I spent more than I should have😂
Is it possible to recondition old gloves by texturing and scraping up old grip surfaces?
Instead of scissors I use a pencil and sandpaper wrapped around the pencil. You should try it 😊❤
i used mine for 2 years and it’s still not slippery
