      along side batman begins, it has to rate as one of the most complete, perfectly balanced, haunting movies of all time. Truly, I rarely see a movie so utterly perfect in almost every sense, it may not be remembered or revered now, but in the future it will, trust me, it will...

    Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course...it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

      @Ferdi Habub actually there is...its Alfred. Not his twin freddy. Angier and freddy are the destructive ones. The obsessed ones. Watch david taylors walk thru commentary and also read deep cinemas review. After sarah dies because of freddys and angiers obsession and angier goes to coloroado offscreen Al and cutter form in cahoots against angier and his obsessed twin freddy. All the hints are there. Listen to nolans dialouge. All in the details. The movie begins with cutter lying in court. Freddys final line before being hung is a dead giveaway. Abracadabra is a riddle, an anagram. Ab = alfred borden...ra= robert angier. Cad is a term for a man who mistreats woman which both angier and freddy did in film. Magicians often wear an amulet in magic. In the form of a triangle. The triangle symbol is obvious thru the entire film...what does this mean? Well one side is ab, the other ra, cad in the middle. Thus forming 3 sides. Al is the third side in the film. He is the one who eventually wants to break away from the trick with is brother because he knows its gone too far and he does not share the same obsession that angier and hie brother freddy has ( as revealed in the end when robert asks "you really dont know why we did this do you?") All of the evidence points to cutter knowing about the "twins" from the start. "He doesnt deal in methods" says cutter early in film. He also says to freddy after messing up the knot "some nights you just dont get it.." also later when angier is trying to figure out bordens new trick. Cutter simply confirms what he already knows "he uses a double" after robert goes to colorado ( machine never worked..also in dialouge...robert simply uses root again) Al and cutter get together and come up with a plan to frame freddy and kill angier. Why do you think the film ends this way with Al nodding to cutter? They worked together. That is the films real magic trick. Cutter plans both angiers and freddys death offscreen with enough hints in dialouge to prove it. Al does lose quite a bit in the end and may not be considered a winner, but he was never a bad man. His twin freddy becomes the bad one. Him and angier. Al is stuck in the middle. Hence the amulet in magic. 3 sides. Freddys final words and a brilliant script reveals all the secrets....but as nolan ask the viewer in the opening scene and thru freddys words "are you watching closely? " .....many were not. Many just watch the movie and take it as is. Hardly the case.

    • @alborzajeli768
      @alborzajeli768 Před 6 lety

      he never actually duplicated Borden, they were brothers from the begging, twins, he explains this at the end of the movie, which would also explain why he knew nothing, or cared to know, about Angiers machine, or what he was doing with it. Think about it, if he too had been duplicated, he would have known what was going on, instead of getting tricked as he did by Angier and ending up in the gallows. I know this, because i thought the same thing, about him being duplicated, that time he was seen by Angier at Tesla's show. Turns out, the truth was a lot more simple, and hidden before our very eyes.. As Cutter kept on saying, "he's using a double!" we, like Angier, didn't want to believe the secret could be so simple.

      Why else do you think I am comparing the scores from his movies with one another?! Of course I hvae heard it...lthe one and only time I have watched Interstellar. Can I be honest? Despite the money, Interstellar is Nolan's 'worst' film. I have that word in quotes cause it is still a better effort than most modern sci fi movies, but let's be honest, it isn't a great movie. As I said in my original comment, most of Zimmer's work is sthe same. This is because he has a team of guys who 'write' for him and when they hand in their work, he takes the credit. His writers will obviously be writing to what they think he likes, so we get similar musical motifs in all his films. That's why I love The Prestige soundtrack. It has zero 'Zimmerisms' and is actually kinda random, in so far as it just provides a strange added layer tp every scene without nessicarily marking out cues and events in the picture itself. It adds to the dresm like wuiality of the film. The Prestige is my favorite Nolan film anyway, bar none, so it's hard to persuade me to change my thoughts on it.,

      @restlessentertainment9760 Před 7 lety +1

      Actually, Interstellar is one of the only films Zimmer did on his own.
      I'm doing a class with Zimmer and he's gone over all his thought processes and music diaries for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, Frost/Nixon, Interstellar and a couple others.
      Interstellar's soundtrack, "Day One" in particular, is one of the most beautiful scores I have ever listened to.

    the unconvincing part of wikipedia was the part of the explanation that said that one brother was named Freddy and the other's name was Borden...That is why i don't rely on wikipedia..IMDb is reliable tho, so congratulations you are right and I am wrong. well that sure is very disappointing that they're brothers. Borden using Tesla's machine would've had so much more relevance to the plot...how the fuk did Tesla's machine even connect to Borden then?

      he used it to trick angier into going half way around the world, chasing a pipe dream lol. That was the relevance, using the fake journal entries, it was one of the movies best twists, especially because Angier returns with something Borden was never expecting, better yet, even comprehending possible...

    no i'm pretty sure Borden won. His unintended Prestige in the end got him his daughter back, with the cost of "Fallon's" death.

      but, lets not forget that in the process, his obsession also caused the lose of his wife, his mistress, and his twin brother, so this supposed 'victory' came at a grievous cost...

    Not even Nolan's best work...Interstellar shatters this masterpiece to bits. BRILLIANT director.

      +Evan Jordan I disagree. Interstellar has its fault, but this is simply a masterpiece. Have a look at the youtube video "The Prestige: Hidden in plain sight"

      Big Christopher Nolan fan. Although the Prestige doesn't have the same "cinematic grandure" that Insterstellar had I do think it's a better movie, I just think the Prestige is pretty much flawless.
