@@TheNealsNextDoor I've been putting this procedure off for about a year now. I'm actually up right now because I couldn't sleep due to nasal congestion. What was the deciding factor that made you get this procedure done? Was ENS a concern?

    • @TheNealsNextDoor
      @TheNealsNextDoor  Před 3 lety +8

Yea the nasal congestion was really the deciding factor for me. It was messing up my sleep and just the overall stuffiness during the day that would make it hard to bread while trying to do things around the house. I was a little concerned about ENS but I was more concerned about how much I wanted to use Affrin some days looking for relief. Besides when I had a cold for a few days. I have not been congested at all since have recovered and it has been great. When I worked out I thought I was just really out of shape because of how hard it was to breath sometimes but now it feels good being able to fully inhale and exhale

Some pressure from Doc pushing the turbinate bone back after cauterization with his 2 knuckle deep pinky finger which was quite invigorating! I had a septoplasty and turbinate submucous resection done together with Sinus endoscopic removal and valve reconstruction. First 4-5 days are miserable and are expected to be that way. Then everything will get better day by day. If you have interior nasal splints you'll smell your own mocus, nasty, you'll feel very uncomfortable, etc but that's normal. Couple of weeks after nasal splints removal are weird. The air sensation is different but remember that mucosa needs to regenerate. Pro tips: Buy a humidifier and don't skip them nasal washes.

@@myrnacortez8881 Right after surgery you won't be able to breath since there will be discharge. It needs time to stop. Usually a few days. Mine started stop the evening the second day, but still took a few days to completely stop. It may be different for you. It was only one side I could breath from and slightly during that time. Being honest, The first week is terrible and only being able to breath through your mouth makes it worse. You won't be able to sleep right either. But stay strong and push through it. The time will go by and once the stents are removed you'll be able to breath almost clearly. You will have swelling occur after but that goes away over time. Just make sure to use the saline as directed to keep it clean. You'll have about 3 cleanings after stents and or packing is removed. Just do your best to use the saline and keep it clean. They may prescribe you Afrin to help as well. I did still develop a small infection around second week but Dr prescribed antibiotics and it cleared up quickly. No issues after that. My headaches and pressure in my face is completely gone and I can breath clear now. Hope all works out well for you and remember, stay strong and think positive.

NIGHT 1 - of my septoplasty surgery.. could actually breathe thru the gauze directly after the surgery better than ever before.. not much pain either, but I m up rt now at 5:30am (first night) bc I can't breathe thru my nose at all.. that part is crazy making for sure and to resist blowing my nose..
I'm praying for a bit more relief soon.. I been taking the Vicodin and Tylenol they gave me in alternating doses.. I wish I could take ibuprofen bc that helps reduce swelling but I can't bc it's a blood thinner.. even all sheets and bedding had been washed but my first two days are being spent in a home with 2 cats and a dog (in order to have help) but I think it's starting to irritate my nose so imma go home and see if things improve..
I would compare the immediate feeling to that of a major cold where your nose is really stuffed up and dry, so dry it causes the skin to crack causing discomfort (around the stints) with minor bleeding. I iced my nose for a bit to see if that would reduce the bit of swelling to get some air thru, to no avail..
Trying not to start crying like a baby 😥🤦🏾‍♀️ bc I hate biting more than not being able to breathe, but I know relief is just a couple days away bc I experiences a taste of it right after my surgery.. this is DAY 1.. I will try to return with an update... But don't be scared y'all, do your research, ask questions for clarity, and just thug it out.. most likely relief you'll feel after the surgery recovery week will outweigh the discomfort you felt on a daily basis before going under. Stay up family.. Namaste 🙏🏾💖

@@SomeTrippyCanadian Love to hear that for you! Congrats. The only thing holding me back honestly is the disease everyone talks about after they get these type of surgery’s done. I’m talking about ENS (Empty nose syndrome). Honestly it scares me a lot knowing it can happen to me after this surgery so I’m trying to leave it as a last resort. Did your otolaryngologist warn you about this or any risks involved after surgery? Or did he go straight to the point about you needing surgery after your first appointment with him?

I got rhinoplasty and septoplasty in 2022. Since the surgery got finished, I have not been able to control my breath.
Those below are the actual main symptoms I have.
①When my noses inhale the air, the air comes into my body too strongly. It's so strong that I feel suffocated.
And my noses don't work for letting the air out from my body by themselves. So, I need to try to force the air to go out from my body.
②I have a headache and need to take pills for it every day.
③My nasal snot stuck with my nasal paths.
④My mouth, nose, and throat are always getting dry. The mouth doesn't produce enough saliva. The nose is burning. The throat is always with pain.
Honestly, these symptoms make me insane every single second.
I want to finish my life by myself, as soon as possible, to run away from this suffocation.
If you're considering whether you should take any type of nasal surgery or not, just be careful of your decision.

I had this done on Tuesday morning on 7-20 and it’s now Saturday evening( 7-24) I’m still tender but the stuffiness has really gone down, had a lot of drainage the first three nights. I would say it’s just minor discomfort now, not really pain. What is kicking my ass is major fatigue, I have had an errand or two to run around town and do the last two days, nothing major, and I kinda felt like motion sickness, just extremely worn out, almost like a really bad hang over, honestly it’s worst than the pain and initial stuffiness. I know I just need to rest but if I’m not just laying on the couch then I’m really struggling, which is just surprising I guess.Hoping to have more energy the next few days. I am taking all next week off as well, so I’m sure I’ll be doing fine by then, just was hoping to be able to get some house projects done while I’m off haha. Thanks for the video

No pain, while still taking pain meds is where you should be. The important question is how frequently are you taking them, and how do you feel right before you take the next dose. My experience has been that I have waited to get pain before taking more pain meds so I know how much pain there is, and can manage my pain meds to the absolute minimum ….

MY EXPERIENCE IS COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF YOURS.
I had my FIRST septoplasty done 25 years ago (due to an MVA ~ when I smashed my head on the steering wheel and messed my nose up! Idk why I couldn’t breathe and it was years before I had the surgery.
In May ‘23 I saw an ENT bc I couldn’t breathe again and my nose was constantly running. I also could see the septum was deviated again. So I would TRY to blow my nose but I would have to clean it out with qtips to ensure I got it all. Mostly mucous and never hard scabs. Gross!!! I’m sorry.
She said I needed a ‘Turbinate Reduction Surgery’ done on my nose. Never had that before. She said if I needed another Septoplasty surgery she could do it at the same time so I gave her permission rather than doing 2 separate surgeries. She said she wouldn’t know until she was in my nose.
Btw … My first septoplasty was a nightmare!!! I was in EXCRUCIATING PAIN and back then it wasn’t day surgery so I was in the hospital for a few days still suffering in pain!!! I swore I’d NEVER have nose surgery AGAIN.
Yet here I am again. For the last year I’ve not being able to breathe properly or blow my nose properly bc of these turbinates. I honestly didn’t want to do this surgery for fear of the same traumatic experience.
Yet she assured me many times during our convos that 90% of her patients have little to no pain and as for pain meds the strongest she prescribes is T3’s. I expressed my concerns about my previous septo surgery and the horrendous pain I had after recovery in the hospital and when I went home!
I was on a stronger opiate back then and STILL had pain!
She ASSURED me that I would only have ‘discomfort and feel pressure and that’s it’ and I’ll give you a prescription for Tylenol 3’s but you won’t need it bc most of my patients didn’t need it and I don’t prescribe anything stronger’. She sounded pretty confident in her work so I said ok and put any negative thoughts aside. I was still skeptical but 90% of her patients didn’t have ANY pain so hey that sounds pretty confident in her work.
She ended up doing BOTH surgeries on me yesterday ~ THURS SEPT 7/23.
And let me tell you … I WILL NEVER EVER have another surgery on my nose. EVER!!
My experience has been totally opposite of yours and opposite of what my surgeons’ patients have been through.
I’m only on Day 1 as my surgery was yesterday ~ Thursday Sept 7/23 and this is EXACTLY how I remember my previous surgery. BRUTAL!
I do know in 6-8 months when it’s all healed that it will be worth it but right now I’m living in hell. 😣😩🥺😭😭😭
    Thanks for sharing this.
It was really nice reading about your journey. I should have done one with my first one and should have done a journey with this one. But I’d scare too many people. I have a high tolerance for pain so that’s what I don’t understand!
