Most people don't know the animals deer, moose, etc loose their antlers every year and regrow them every year. The antlers are found in nature just laying about. I do agree with you about killing animals, it should be a last resort for food as far as I'm concerned and killing anything shouldn't be called a sport.
The deer currently have "velvet" on their antlers. Soon they'll be rubbing it off and rutting and strutting for females during rutting season which will be soon. Antlers fall off in the spring. If you can find them before the squirrels do, you are lucky. Though I understand your sentiment about killing living things, our hunters help keep the herds culled and healthy. And they don't waste the meat. They eat it, and that is how many in my rural county feed their families. Further, many sportsmen (hunting/fishing) help preserve habitat for wildlife.
I don't usually like to buy pre cuts either. There are always several prints in a collection that I don't like or colors that I am just not drawn to like yellow or orange. But I will get a yard each of the ones in a collection that I do like. So my quilts end up 3 ro 5 colors and not so scrappy.
I too prefer to buy yardage of the prints I’m obsessed with. I like to combine collections and older prints to add some interest so everything doesn’t look so “matchy”. Happy quilting and thanks for watching!
And don't discount the trees either, they are probably representing the pine trees some of us cut down and decorate for Christmas. The white is awesome for separating busy blocks so that our eyes can rest on a "blank" spot and appreciate the busier blocks.
The “cross stitch” fabric reminds me of the patterns on Fair Isle knitwear. Fair Isle is a remote island situated between Orkney and the Shetland Islands to the north of Scotland. Lovely 😊
@@pennytinker2356 yes it’s does look like Icelandic knitwear too. The Orkney and Shetland Islands being on the north east of Scotland are very close to Norway. The Hebrides are on the north west of Scotland.
I'm a longarmer, and I recently quilted a quilt for a customer using that layer cake. I loved the unusual colors and prints, so tired of traditional Christmas fabrics.
I LOVE online fabric shopping. Where I live, it is far to go to a quilt store. My go-to is Hancocks of Paducah which has IMV the best sales. I always look for fabric on sale (in my never pay retail mentality!) and then figure out what I can do with it. Further, I keep my eyes peeled fingers hovering on keyboard to find white/off white to include tone on tone on sale. I recently picked up some dot swirls on white and paid $3.19 a yard (marked down + buy more and save). That about 25% of retail. 15 yards buys the best discount, but it is not hard to go through yardage for neutral colors that fit many schemes. (You should always have a sense of what shade of white you are getting, so buy small and give yourself a swatch referral that you keep handy). Recently picked up some Edyta Sitar's Warm stash fat quarter bundle and Cool fat quarter bundle stash (Andover) for 39.99 and 29.99 for 20 fat quarters. That was a steal and fat quarters are quite versatile. Therefore, I'm too cheap to buy monthly boxes. Aurofil thread used to be my go to. You will not be disappointed. But I'm now using Wonderfil 80wt Decobob...a cottonized polyester. It is fine as frog hair and strong. Sews beautifully and places less bulk in seams without sacrificing anything.

Hey Nora! I have been thinking of making some type of rag doll, I saw an extremely cute on on another channel but it was WAY too complicated for my sewing skills and I just know I would get frustrated and not finish it. I have looked in thrift stores for a soft doll to by so I could at least get started trying to make some clothes for a doll but did not "fall in love" with anything at the thrift stores. You seem good at making fabric animals, do you have a video on making a simple fabric doll? (emphasis on simple!)
I have never made a doll, but I do have a book called “wee wonderfuls, 24 dolls to sew and love”. Not sure how easy the projects are but the book looks good.

After the rut/ breeding season, the bucks shed their antlers. That's what is portrayed in that fabric.

Very interesting! I’m realizing my geography desperately needs a dust up. I think I just made that phrase up.
Sometimes it’s nice to step outside our box and use a colour or pattern we don’t love. The quilt often turns out great.

Indeed. I find directional fabrics to be challenging to work with sometimes but it’ll be fun to think outside of my comfort zone. Happy quilting!
