    Thank you for doing the much-awaited new Kuga review. I own the 2018 model currently and before that had the 2014 model. Very happy with both and after testing the Karoq, with which I was very disappointed (very light steering, body roll, boring interior, some issues with build quality,etc.), my wife and I were looking to you for this review. I think that we will go for the Titanium Pug-in Hybrid for the family (two small kids). I still have the SMax (2016) and will run it for a while till Ford offers the new 2021 line up. Thanks Thomas, you have all been our trusted reviewer.

    Family member bought the Escape Hybrid (not PHEV) here in US recently. Compared to our C-Max hybrid, it's a nice upgrade. Surprising response and performance around town, the car just reaches speed limits quickly with no drama. The SE Sport edition comes with 19 inch wheels, still too big imo. The ActiveTex vinyl seating and plain interior aren't fancy. But here in the US, the vehicle can be bought with lots of options and still around $30K. It's not an X3 or Q5, but not trying to be either.

    I think this one is a perfect option for lease companies and also as company car. Althought people that aren't car enthousiast will also be happy with that. I don't like the plastic screen before the digital display cluster, I think it will cause much reflection and it just looks less estetique.

      Personally, I would rather buy this for someone else, for example, my child or sibling...not for myself. Or I would have this bought to be used as just a hauler. Seems like one of those cars a person would buy purely for commute. No insult to the car or its fans, of course. 🤙

  • @ivelinrb
    @ivelinrb Před 4 lety +1

    As an owner of the previous gen prefacelift I am looking forward for this one. However, there are few things that I alredy dislike about the new model. Not sure if they are dealbrakers. First, ground clearence seems lower, which is bad for a SUV. I personally never went full offroad but frequently drive on dirt roads and climb on sidewalks for parking. The doorbins and the armrest storage box look way smaller. Mine are always loaded. The second row of seats is darker due to the smaller windows on the c pillar. Side door panels have a cheap looking pattern that is not related to anything else in the interior. Desing-wise the front is OK, the back is a massacre, especially the bumper. Overall, it looks more like a hatchback than the previus gen. However, the luggage compartment in the newer model looks more generous than before and the sliding back seats are a nice addition. The infotainment and the central console look very easy to use and I like that everything is kept physical. Hope it drives and feels as good as the previous model. Mine is a 2.0 tdci awd and is abosolute joy to drive. I have it for 6 years and so far no problems at all and fuel economy is ideal. Thanks for the imformative review! Cheers from Bulgaria.

    Thank you Thomas for another great review--big fan. I am seriously considering a PHEV, and This Ford Kuga is certainly one of the more interesting ones. One thing I'm not sure about is what kind of "Charger infrastructure" (your words) do I really need at home (Switzerland). I can easily enough run a cable from a regular household socket out to the car, but is that sufficient, or do I need an electrician to install something more serious?
    I realize this is not your main area of expertise, but perhaps you could point me toward some discussion so I can begin to figure out what I really need. I can well imagine that anyone considering an electric car will be wondering the same thing.

    Personally, I think this new Escape LOOKS fantastic. About the best looking SUV out there to my eye. However, performance wise it doesn't hold a candle to the new Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid. I can't look at the outside of the vehicle anyway while I'm driving down the road, and could care less about what other people think about what I drive, so I can get over the Toyota's more "boxy" style to pick up the additional near 100 horsepower and the much greater range on pure Electric. The RAV4 Prime is over 3 seconds quicker to 100 kph. Also, the Toyota has heated/cooled seats up front with heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel, along with memory seating for the driver. When I talked to Ford here in Canada, I couldn't get cooled seats at any price. The Toyota also has more cargo space and probably better resale value. I'm by no means a Toyota fanboy BUT they've checked an awful lot of desirable boxes on the RAV4 Prime option list. It'll probably be our next vehicle.

    Excellent as usual Thomas. So, my wife has the choice of the Kuga or BMW X1 M Sport PHEV. We have 2 teenagers and a medium sized dog. Which one? We will be retiring our 4 series Gran Coupe.
    Thanks again.

      @just P. X Hi, we've hadthe X1 Hybrid M Sport for around 15 months now. It's been great, the main annoyance is the small furl tank. Combined range is working out at around 330 miles. I believe the new X1 has a larger fuel tank. I still can't get my head around d how peppy that 1.5litre engine is, cruising, it never feels underpowered and if you've got electric, the car has plenty of power.

    Thank for the comprehensive review Thomas. This design somehow already looks old and dated. Maybe it's because many of the design features have been around for 10 yrs. The profile makes the front look really excessively long. Big nosed Ford. And the rear end is seriously bland. Oh well, at least all the cry babies can't say you are only reviewing german cars. ;)
