    I thank the doctor for his report. My Mother had merkel cell cancer when she was 80. It was hard to explain to others as no one had heard of it. She had a one year prognosis, lived another 11 even with it metasticizing to lymph nodes and then to her stomach. Cancer is cancer no matter how it presents. No type is to be trifled with. She took a supplement daily that i believe, and I think even the oncologist believed contributed to her longevity. She was not a sun worshipper but was a lifelong smoker. Comes down to who knows why one person's journey is what it is. We believe it returned to finally take her when she was 91 but we weren't willing to subject her to heroic treatments. 76 is young and I'm so sorry his journey ended so soon.

    Even in Canada with great oversight and essentially free medical (go get your checkups) I've lost three people, one under forty, to aggressive cancers. Cancer can be unique to every person. One lady never smoked, lost her under forty years: upper pallet cancer. Gone in six weeks. Friend who overcame one cancer got bone cancer and was gone in three weeks. Media rarely covers agg. cancers because you just don't have the TIME you need to intercede. Jimmy lived his life to the full, stayed married to the same love, and gave up music that was fun fun fun. Can't say enough good things about him.

      Excellent comment, thank you. Seems like the best of us leave far too soon, while some of the worst hang around far too long. Jimmy's death hit me hard since I'm over 50 and spend a lot of time in the sun. I'll be more vigilant about annual skin cancer exams but you bring up an important point about aggressive cancer in general. It's wicked..... acts so fast. But there's some recent developments in medical science that may help us get ahead of this deadly form of cancer, e.g., genetic screening. Maybe the next generation will finally beat this horrible disease.

      Stop using sunscreen as the chemicals in them have been linked with skin cancer. Yep. And a good friend of mine who never goes outside unless she slathers number 50 on her, was diagnosed with skin cancer. The sun has never hit her Lily white skin.

    • @cjhoward409
      @cjhoward409 Před 11 měsíci

      Most do. It’s all the chemicals in them that soak into our skin. I know a lady now with skin cancer and she NEVER went out in the sun and the rare times she was pool side (in the shade) she slathered up everywhere that sunscreen. And I know another lady who got skin cancer on her butt. Not only was she not a sun bather but she was also not a NUDE sunbather. But what they both had in common was that they are smokers and eat like crap. 😫🤪

      I used to think skin cancer was nothing until a cashier at a local store near my house died recently of skin cancer. He was a good, friendly guy in his 70s and one day he just did not show up at his shop's counter. He used to tell him that the 'skin cancer' had gone into other parts of his body. I honestly didnt think that was a problem--I was ignorant. RIP to him and others like him. I hope someone finds one cure for all cancers!!

      Prevention is key. And it all goes to our immune system. If you smoke, drink alcohol, eat fried foods, too much sugar, etc, you are risking your life and weakening your immune system and your healthy cells will break down.

Because I think I have probably 'internalized' the 'exceptions' as 'rules': Some live risky lives and make into their very old ripe ages...
