My 11 year old grandson about early 2019 developed a condition where his eyelid is inflamed and swollen sometimes shut with some swelling of the cheek. He has been through every test you can imagine. He has been on antibiotics and steroids but once off the med the flare-up occurs about a month after. This is very sad as we don't know what it is and doctors don't have an answer.

Had on New Years Eve, Orbital Cellulitis.. Went to primary doctor who told me to go to ER. IV antibiotics for 48 hours, went home and took 2 oral antibiotics for 7 days. I am fine now but was a scary thing to go through because they said it could have spread to the optic nerve and to the brain. I am a senior age 66. My symptoms were first: sinus, red eye, swollen eyelids and a lot of tearing. Thank God I came through it without any vision loss. I have very low vision due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. I have prosthetic in left eye and corrected vision in right eye is 20/200.

It’s only a temporary fix until the bacteria from your oral gum pockets activates again . All those eye issues are the fluid that’s moving dead dental and gum tissue .

In January I had a drain surgically removed from my frontal sinus, and then in February my mum phoned a gp because my eye had swollen horrifically in just a few hours... The gp refused to see me, and so at 11pm when I couldn't open my eye and it was agony, my mum too me to a and e, where straight away I was seen and given antibiotics, and they were saying it was probably in its final stages of spreading to behind my eye,and that I was lucky otherwise it would have been orbital instead of just preorbital.... So skip to a week ago, I noticed the swelling again... But I had my 16 th birthday I between the two, so I had to go to the adults a and e department, where they spent a good 30 minutes deciding wtf to do, and said that again in was pretty close to spreading as I'd had the exact same infection before. I can't tell if it's still here when it shouldn't be because the swelling has gone down a bit, but the pain is still there but I have a problem with my sinuses which could be causing the pain and idk wtf to do lol

My daughter was admitted to the hospital on Nov.1 and still hasn't fully recovered from what we thought was a clear case of orbital cellulitis. After 3 weeks in the hospital and every single blood test and head/body scan you can think of, the doctor's insist that her illness was caused by a fungus in her nasal cavity. She was being treated with antibiotics (through IV) during the first week and was then switched to anti-fungal medicine (through IV for 2 weeks) and in pill form after being discharged from the hospital at the beginning of the 4th week. The doctors are worried because there is a "mass" on her pituitary gland that appears on her CT scans. Could this be the abscess that you mention at the end of the video? It seems like her case is what is described in the advanced stages of your video, but the doctors insist that it's a fungal infection, even though they haven't been able to grow any fungus on the tissue samples that they took from her nasal cavity, even after 4 weeks from the day they took the samples. They have even gone as far as to suggest that she might have "Erdheim Chester Disease". I have a lot of pictures depicting her progression since the beginning of this, but CZcams doesn't even let me post the links to the images. Could this possibly be a FUNGAL infection??? At this point, I'm even wondering if they're just exploiting her medical insurance. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

+Hector Hugo Went back for most recent diagnosis and now they say it's LCH (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis) and she will need two years of chemotherapy and spinal taps, with an 80% chance of survival. They arrived at this conclusion because the mass in her eye is solid (they call it a tumor) and not liquid. I'm confused by this explanation because I thought Orbital Cellulitis could also form a solid mass and not just liquid.

+Hector Hugo I'm sorry your daughter is experiencing such problems at such a young age. This has to be very difficult to go through, especially for you as a parent, too. Unfortunately, for medico-legal purposes, I cannot provide specific medical advice online. It is true that many disease processes have symptoms that overlap, sometimes so much so that it makes it difficult for us to diagnose right away. Orbital cellulitis typically is not associated with a mass, and certainly would not be associated with any kind of mass on the pituitary gland. While an infection from orbital cellulitis can spread into the skull, it would not be in the form of a mass. Furthermore, orbital cellulitis would improve with antibiotics - usually no longer than a couple weeks even in severe cases. Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a very rare diagnosis. If this is in fact the diagnosis, then it is understandable there was some initial confusion as your daughter's physicians were probably considering more common things. By now, you have probably been in touch with a pediatric oncologist who is familiar with some of the chemotherapy drugs that will be used. I would suggest visiting the Histiocytosis Association; they can provide you with information about what to expect as well as answer any questions you might have. Their website is full of good advice. I will place the link below. Please accept my best wishes for a healthy recovery for your daughter.
