In this video, we are performing a range test with the newly released DJI Mini SE. The DJI Mini SE is a new low-cost drone coming in at US $299 and is perfect for beginners or those who don't want to spend too much on a drone but still want good performance. One downfall with the Mini SE is the transmission system is enhanced WiFi so range and FPV feed stability can be an issue in some congested environments. This range test was performed in a rural area away from people and buildings. A spotter was used and the drone remained in visual line of sight at all times.

Thank you for uploading this, uncut with the feed from the actual flight! I've bought this as an entry level first time drone to learn that ropes and have been terrified that I made the wrong decision by almost every drone CZcamsr saying "great drone, but the signal is horrible!" while showing the captured footage. It's great to see that while the direct link footage isn't 100% up, it's just a bit of stuttering here and there and not the feed drops I was fearing.
Thx, Sean, you got more distance than i expected. Great presentation
I love how it comes back when you lose signal, that is brilliant.
Today I pressed Power button instead of return to home button 😱
Controller turned off
It's just came back 🤣
@@niteblaster1 wow hahaha, that's definitely a scary experience, I'm glad it came back.
Much further then I thought she would go. Good information for us city folks! Thank you!
Mikey
okay that bit with the being able to change the direction while in RTH mode had my jaw drop open, that's a fantastic feature. I will be using that as early as tomorrow on a flight!
Im gonna use it as well ive owed it for quite a while and didn't know this SADGE :(((
can Mini 2 did the same?
@@euglyh yes, absolutely. Mini 2 is like a better SE, has a better camera/controller/range etc...
Thankyou for the test, I flew it around 500m for the first time today and turned it back. This was a great demo to show the distance, this is much more than i Expected.
I went over 2.5km and was too scared lol
In a built-up area I can't get more than 320m
I've only used it 3 times
I have purchased the mini 2
1.8km in same location
and it transmits the video back to the phone much clearer and doesn't have any reception problems due to interference
Should have never produced the se, it's only a little bit more money for the mini 2
Wow, epic series of videos on this little drone. I just placed an order for one, I can't wait to see some of the footage I can get around here around the harsh foggy rocky coast lines here in newfoundland.
This SE is my first drone. I've made a test/orientation flight and then had an experienced operator go out with me for my second flight. We put it through its paces and it performed flawlessly. I'm thrilled with it and how easy it is to fly for a rookie like me. Best bang for the buck!
Indeed it’s a great drone for the price
Lessons learned as a CE Mavic Mini owner:
- Video feed breaks before control feed (unless you use Y/U passive repeaters).
- Range is very dependent on frequencies modulating on the ground (auto selected at boot). It's quite likely on the sky a frequency busier at the home point is actually better on the sky and brings a better range when selected (FREQ selection only possible on the ground).
I’m going to get the mini se it’s my first drone what model will it be if I live in the us
For the info I have the SE -is not and will probably be NOT sold in the US.-
I've never withdrawn my word as quickly... I checked the other day and it wasn't on sale and others pointed out it was probably going to remain in Asia. Well... that didn't hold true after all.
-I speculate it's a model for the Asian market only- where the Mini 2 body is coupled with the old Remote Control to sell out the stock of Mavic Mini remotes.
Without a Combo edition there is only so much you can do with one Intelligent Flight Battery. At about 50 EUR a piece where I am for another couple of batteries of the original Mavic Mini it wasn't a very wise investment where for around 100 EUR more you could have got the Combo (drone+rc+charging hub+batteries+cage+case).
Great stuff, just bought one of these and wondered about range. Thanks for doing this.
Great Video! Thank you for sharing your test of the DJI Mini SE.
A big thank you from Seattle. Fantastic Video!
Yo! Thank-you so much. This is so helpful!
This is the video I was looking for. Thanks for the range test with the controller that comes with the quad!
Great test thankyou!
Great Range Test! Almost 2 Miles out and back! I'm sure it could have gone further as you still had great RC signal, you just had weak video signal which triggered the RTH! I think this is the First SE range test I've seen, Great Job!
In hindsight I should’ve gone up to the full 120 m could probably pushed it a little further
@@AirPhotography so I'm assuming that staying pretty high in altitude helps to avoid interference and obstructions from the ground?
@@mikec2745 yes
Just bought a Mini SE... thanks for the vid!
This is great. I’ve been scared to go past 400m when the feed gets choppy lol but this gives me some confidence to fly a little farther
Are you flying in an urban or rural area? Just wondering
Nice love your videos 🤩
Great video, very helpful.
Thanks buddy . As usual awesome video !!!
Thank you
As always very good video 😀👍
Nice demo Shawn! The Mini SE is such an amazing value!
It's not worth owning 😱
In a real-world situation you'll get 300 yds
Pay a little bit more and get the mini 2
nice flight mate, well done thumbs up. Fully watched & enjoyed
The DJI MINI SE is a great little drone, just like all the other DJI Drones. It is basicly a MINI 2 with a Mini 1 control system. I also have one as I commented in the video of 28 February 2022. Nice video. Liked again! : )
Great video, nice to see it in action, and to get a feel for the interface, and other features. :) I want one!
very useful video. thanks for your practical information.
Glad it was helpful!
Straight to the point 👍, good job.
Thank you
Great video!
Wow.. amazing little mini se.. tnx for the info brother... I plan to buy this one..
This is amazing
One of the very best features on the mini is the red as the crow flies line for manual RTH if you get disorientated or out of VLOS, used it so many times to return in the shortest distance possible, absolutely brilliant drones.
I have the mini 2, but I rekon the SE is the best value for money drone on the market today.
I had 2 Hubsan H501s-s drones prior to taking the plunge I to the world of DJI, I thought the H501s-s drones where amazing, but compared to the mini range from DJI they are night and day, yes your paying 30% more for the DJI mini SE but so much worth the extra outlay IMHO.
It's great that Autel arw releasing there mini series now as it gives DJI some serious competition which should keep DJI on there toes for a while.
Se has no range when flying over buildings in comparison to mini 2,I got se
then 4 days later got mini 2
Because of low range and no zoom,my first drone
Good test
wow that grass is beautiful
I got the same DJI mini. Beautiful sharing!! thanks
Wow impressive range. The mini SE did very good.🙂👍. That's pretty good for it.
Plus the video quality is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Have a great week
Thank you for watching yes I was pretty impressed with its range for being Wi-Fi
Great vid
Excellent 👍
Awesome. Thanks for vídeo.
Thank you and thanks for watching
thanks for video.
Be great to see this again with the parabolic shields or the yagi extenders.
Since the SE uses otg cables did you remember to turn off the phone wifi, bluetooth and even the cell service to see if you would get any additional distance? Enjoyed your range test very much.
Thank you
Great job 👍😉, nice video. liked & subscribed, thanks for sharing 👍😉
Thank you and welcome aboard
Super! 👍
На базу родной📍👏
Thanks bro
Awesome
This is a great deal ! Imagine if you put range extenders on it you would definitely fly over 4 miles easy. Great video 👍🏾
If you don't mind me asking, where can I go about getting those range extenders. I am a newbie so learning all this cool stuff. Thanks in advance
A range extender won't send this anywhere near 4 miles. I used one on my old phantom. I chose the mini 2 over the se and signal was the main reason
Very nice...have this little guy on the way after my original Mini crapped out...still keeping though.
This drone seems really good for the price... I don't need a drone but now I want one😂
Good video! I have just subbed!
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
thanks for the metric system.
Very impressive, Most iv gone on mine is about 750m and pressed the Rth lol, great stuff , 👍
Just got a mini SE, I wanted a drone and in particular a DJI since 2013 and couldn't pass on the price. Very happy with it so far!
Nice. yeah it’s a really good Drone for the price
Won't regret it
Nice flight .
The Wi-Fi on the drone is pretty good I must say a great value for a low cost drone
Brilliant video 😎
Don't anyone think they are going to get this range in any other circumstances 😱
Get the mini 2,
I got se,4 days later got mini 2
Because of low range when there are buildings
I'm curious if you could set your home point manually to something far away, then hit return to home and have it fly there?
Definitely getting this as my first drone. Same day delivery too!
Don't do it 😱
Get mini 2,se is rubbish
I got new one used 2 times
You won't get good range unless you in a field
Over buildings it's 300m
Get mini 2 with 4x zoom
@@winniewingnut2169 yeah I changed my mind on the se and figured I’d spend more and get more with the 2. This was probably the day after I made this comment.
I think I'm going to get this drone cause it seems to be great for its price
I wonder if the Yagi antenna would be good just for the stronger signal.
Wow I am very impressed. Do this drone have the little lights on it
Try parabolic tin foil reflector behind the antenna. I double my home wifi signal using this technique.
Just got my first drone. The SE. Took it for a flight it was awesome. How do edit your videos so that you can show the mobile phone screen of your flight and then of your controlling the drone at the same time.
Not bad the range reach to over 3km~ quite good!
Thank you for this! I just bought it today and it's my first actual drone after many cheap toy ones. I'm taking it to an area exactly like that tomorrow for its first flight.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed my video. Enjoy your new drone and happy first flight
Brilliant video 😎
My drone is arriving tomorrow morning 😃
Never used one before 😱
Can battery be removed
to fit a spare battery?
Wow, this is longer than i thought, i have seen some SE range tests before but only gone 1.5 kms the farthest. Can you also do a tests on an urban area? thanks
The FCC version can go 4km but the other version goes 2km I think
It's all dependant on the area for sure suburban areas I struggle but in country I got 3km but was too scared to go further as a noob
@@lucasdunkelberger7897 how do I know if I got the FCC version or not?
@@malazan6004
Did you found out how
@@malazan6004 It should be on the side of the box the drone came in and should specify the range.
Nice range test, I got my DJI mini se at about the same range as you did but at urban areas. I get to wash a little of the football game a mile away at a stadium near by 😁
I get about 300m in built up areas with se,used it 2 times
Then got mini 2 ,much more range,no interference
And 4x zoom 😀
@@winniewingnut2169 yes that will be my next move. 👍
Do you know anything on why we can no longer live stream like we used to be able to with the older drones? Seems like a lot of older drones had better software
That was incredible, and the footage I guess was at 2.7K very clear on my 5K iMac. It was the wifi and 2.7 that was putting me off buying one and going for the Mini2 which they are offering at a discounted price at the moment (due I am sure to the impending launch of the Mini 3), but this video has re-alligened my thinking (that is short for added more confusion as to which to buy).
Many thanks for your channel.
I know that I'm basically a week late to the party, but do splurge a bit and get the Mini 2. The WiFi connection the SE uses is very, very susceptible to all sorts of interference and won't be able to go far in an urban environment. I used to own the original Mini and couldn't go more than 50m in the middle of a medium-sized city. This also applies to flying in a rural environment, if you fly near a cell tower or put one in the middle between you and the drone.
@@ro4ers Thanks for the input still thinking wheter to but the Mini 2 or wait a week or so to see if they do launch a Mini 3
thank you so much for this amazing review, your voice and the view are peaceful to watch! a quick question, i have never used a drone but i want one as a hobby, is this mini se good for newbies? and i was sorry when i saw 2.7k / 30fps because i really like the smoothness of 60fps but i think it is capable of 1080p / 60fps due to the official site, so is this review taken in 60fps? thanks in advance for your reply!
For the price it is an excellent drawing for beginners and even advanced pilots for travel. If you want to hire frame rates like 4K didn’t have to move to something like the DJI Mini 2
I purchased an SE yesterday so I appreciate this demo. It will be my first GPS model. I lost a Holystone 440. It’s about 1/3 the price but it’s still a bad feeling. I learned a lot about manual flying
Impressive you almost got 2 miles on a enhanced WiFi drone 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Been looking for an inexpensive drone to do simple overflights of my farm to check fences, crops, and livestock. This might be just the ticket. Thanks!
You think you can fit a rugged phone on the remote or you can connect it without the cord just a wifi connection?
Have you noticed that the RC signal bars remained full bars eventhough there were wifi interference or weak signal warnings during your flights especially when the fpv on the app blacked out and did RTH? Basically, there is no difference on its flight patterns between mini 1 and mini se, but I hope there is only one model for mini se where the max distance would depend on which country you will fly same as mini 2. The Mini 1 had two models which would depend which country you bought it and it has lots of confusing restrictions on its signal strengths. Thanks!
Use the parabolic mirror, and yagi uda antenna and you will have plenty of range.
If you want other drones to allow you to spin around on rth, you just have to turn off obstacle avoidance and you will be able to look around while the aircraft is returning to home. The mini does it by nature because it has no obstacle avoidance
That is interesting I will definitely have to try that out.
@@AirPhotography it works for my Mavic 2 Pro, so I assume it will work with all DJI drones that have obstacle avoidance
i got 1000m from my mini se.
on a farm . no interference
800m in a built up area... non stop loosing connection to drone.
never believe what's on the box or what the manufacturer states.. its marketings BS
cheers for the upload . i enjoyed the flight
Nice testing, it seems to have decent range for a wifi drone. It's a good drone for either a beginner or someone a tight budget. Thanks for sharing.
Ho visto il video... Ho comprato solo adesso un mini SE.. se vola così sono veramente contento grazie.. 😮
Definitely a gem among budget drones.
Yes indeed there really is nothing comparable for the price on the market great choice for those who don’t wanna spend a lot of money just beginning
Cool, doubt the range during February's sub z Temps. But maybe I'll try in a few days? Above 0°C then. Today -28 windchill.
No bad!
But can this drone be used without the remote, with controls on smartphone, just like a DJI spark? It would make it a perfect selfie drone
This what I'm looking for mini se..
I flew my Mini SE over the ocean. I only went 1.58km out as there was some light wind. It was my first flight. Should of tried for 2km.
I think you may have had a little better results by maintaining a bit higher altitude. I saw two different range tests on mini 3 and got to the conclusion that longer distance was at nearly 400m high vs other at 100m.
Mini SE is looking good so far. Image quality aint that bad either.
Agreed 👍
Humid weather brings the signal greatly down. At over 90% i had the drone 120m over me and was loosing connection. And i was able to go cca 600m distance at 60m height so far max.
If you used a range booster? That will increase the range and the fpv video will still run but with Abit of a jitter? Am contemplating one.
Very Nice! Is this a FCC model, right? I've seen some people having connection troubles with CE version. But your drone connectivity seems alright.
Witch one is the USA model?
@@lRickGrimesl FCC model
I can always get around 4500m+ providing mild winds and little interference, but I do use parabolic and yagi
👍
Hey do you know what model number are you using? Because mine cannot go far beyond 800m in an open field. There are two models of SE, what that has a lower power output and one has 5.8Ghz only version with higher power output.
My Mini SE barely beat this 3 days ago, 3264 meters out at 119 meters altitude, over 2 miles. I use Yagi parabolics & antennas and also fly in rural areas. It's all about keeping the controller pointed precisely at the drone the whole time. I only make one edit (to add music) and I don't do it on the DJI Fly app as it dumbs the video down to 1080p.
I just did 3350 meters at 60 meters. I followed an old wagon trail along the base of a mountain in a river valley. (Sagebrush desert) The range really surprised me. I still had image and control but because I flew into the wind, I got a low battery warning. It arrived back with 15% battery, so I probably could have gone more, but why press my luck.
Hello, new subscriber here... question: is this ok with Micro USB phone?
Do u need a landing pad for auto return cuz imma buy that drone and I like if it can return auto
How's the wind resistance of the SE? Is it as good as the Mini 2, or do I have to keep an eye for high winds on UAV forecast or Tomorrow Weather (formerly Climacell)?
it has the same motor, E.S.C and battery as the mini 2 so it should handle winds like the mini 2
I did not know my mini se was on wifi,i have a cell tower about a quarter mile away so that explains the shorter range. I use it to take nice pictures so the distance does no bother me bu it is good to know.
Great range test, Sean! I would rarely have gotten more than 700m with my old CE Mavic Mini, occusync on my Mini 2 blows it away
Something wasn't right with your drone then. Took my Mavic Mini 1 to 4.8 km away with no major issues. Just a couple weak signal warnings. Not saying it should achieve this every time but not being able to get more than 700 metres out of it...that is very low. Could spend less than half the value of a Mavic Mini on a cheap drone and probably get same distance out of it.
@@B27JJW It's a CE version, so the transmission is less powerful than FCC. Any interference can disturb a drone with basic Wi-Fi. If I was looking for range, I could have used one of my range extenders, but TBH, my videos are cinematic, so I like to be close to the subject
@@DroneViewsMedia i live in the UK so i have the CE model as well. I did a few test flights couple weeks ago and couldn't manage to get more than 3 km distance without losing connection. That 4.8 km distance was a one one time thing to be fair.
@@B27JJW It depends very much on where you're flying, I could get reasonable distances in rural areas, but in anywhere with interference, particularly near Marinas, it's too much for the original Mini. I have zero issues with the Mini 2
Just use the parabolic mirror, and Yagi-Uda antenna, and you're range will improve 30-50% !!!
Are you able to move the camera around or is it fixed ?
