Rivalries are great, even if they are stoked by ESPN. The WNBA needs it to continue, and mimic the NFL with Patrick Mahomes & Josh Allen or more aptly maybe the Philip Rivers Jay Cutler Rivalry.

The veteran players of women's basketball is saying that the things getting pointed out about Katlyn has BEEN happening in women's basketball (FOULS INCLUDED). I used to watch women's basketball and compare it to the WWE in real life 😁. They would almost destory each other on the court and high 5 each other at the end. They have gotten better since the WNBA but the rough play has always been there. Like EA Sports, in was in their game.

Its the collisions now outlawed in the NFL. Like whenever hulk Hogan made pro wrestling cartoonish I started watching women's basketball in a similar time slot back in the late 80s. The WNBA has vintage Vincent Lombardi blocking and tackling. Nobody in the NFL wants to get fined for tackling. The WNBA there will be contact. I'm not the biggest Caitlin Clark fan, but I love Aaliyah Boston and they're like Larry Allen and Emmett Smith. Clark is getting way better at following Aaliyah Boston. The refs will never call a moving screen as long as it's entertaining. Clark will get bigger numbers without Boston but way more likely to win in a synergy.
Reese is her team's only all-star. I hope Camilla Takes some of her numbers and get them more wins. Takes time to build a team.

Something I hate so much about the rivalry in the WNBA that women always talk about "women support women" "women looking out for women"
But then the millisecond a woman is better at anything than another woman it's perfectly okay to tear them down. Women have been doing this forever and it shows in the WNBA. And as a fellow woman it makes me really sad because we should absolutely be supporting each other.
It was so embarrassing they shoved Caitlin to the ground when she wasn't looking and the opposing teammates start clapping like a stupid fucking seal. Because shoving a girl to the ground that isn't looking is very empowering for women 🙄
Nothing will ever make me hate Caitlin. She's a good person, extremely talented, mature and hard working. And I hope the girls that are attacking her physically and verbally because they know she's better either grow the fuck up and leave the WNBA. We don't need to keep encouraging women to tear each other down.

The paralells between the NBA in the
70s / early 80s and the current WNBA are staggering.
    1. The NBA in the 1970s was essentially a two team league. Boston and LA. Interest wasn't very high. That actually was a trend for the first 25 years of the league. By the late 70s, the lwague was old and boring. No new stars.
This is the WNBA up til now almost exactly. 25 years of low interest revolving around 3 marketable teams: NY, CHI, PHX.
    2. Like you said, The Magic Bird rivalry. CC and AR. This is the rivalry that defines the sport.
    3. Look ahead. In 84, right in the middle of the rivalry, the Jordan Draft. 15 All Stars, 10 HOF.
The 27 class is that for the WNBA. It's stacked.
    3. The Nike effect. They just put the entire league on the map. The advertising it gets them is priceless.
It's Bird vs Magic. They get that 27 draft right, its off to the races.

Can it sustain? I say yes, but my advice is simple. Focus on the basketball, and not activism. Honestly, while I am definitely in favor of women's sports, what I do not like is how some players prefer using this platform for activism, and even worse, they are very belligerent about it, especially on social media. You want to support a cause, fine, it's your right. However, if you act like a better-than-thou douchebag and openly pick fights cause someone disagrees with your opinion, you just tainted your own cause, cause people will associate your behavior to similar activists by proxy. This really is a case of "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch", and the WNBA has a lot of work to do on the PR front to garner support once again.

Weird story. I live in New Orleans, and we used to have a AAA baseball team: The Zephyrs, who actually came from Denver then moved here. I liked going to their games, I liked the atmosphere, the Shrine on Airline all of it. Triple A ball is kinda cool actually. You find weird guys to root for, ask for their autographs, they’re actually impressed usually.
Then a new owner came in and changed the fucking name to The BabyCakes. The New Orleans BabyCakes. It was so stupid that I jumped naked wide in ironically. I bought the merch. The fucking mascot was a demon baby. I went to as many games as I could, and was getting as drunk as I could shouting shit like “THAT’S HOW TO PLAY BALL LIKE A CAKE MOTHERFUCKER!! THAT’S CAKES BASEBALL!!!”
I swear to god if we had a WNBA team down here, I’d fully embrace it in the same way. Not as much ironically, bc mostly I was bitter about the change, but more like “I’VE NEVER GIVEN AS MUCH OF A SHIT ABOUT THIS AS I DO NOW, AND I’M JUMPING IN FULL FORCE!!”

I wouldn't really go that far. Angel Reese has been among one of the best in college behind Clark before they both joined the WNBA this year. Clark even got revenge against Reese in the NCAA tournament when Iowa took down LSU in the Final Four. There's a lot of good rookies in this draft class that are sparking all this hype and interest, it's just spearheaded by Caitlin because of the fact she was the most prolific scorer and all-around talent in college, making headlines regularly with her play. Though it is clear Reese has resentment towards Clark as a competitor, it's not like this huge gap of "one is clearly better" or something, and they have different styles of play.
