My interpretation is that the caterpillar represents the older generation of hip-hop, and the butterfly is new/modern rap. Old school hip hop is not as flashy as the new stuff, but its the foundation of the genre and the true essence of the music. And Em talks about ripping these butterflys out of their cacoons, so he's ending these new generation rappers before they can even become a butterfly.
