If a puppy play bites you and it hurts, yelp like another puppy in pain and walk away. This signals to the dog they have gone too far.

It’s not that they are super hard to train it is that you have to train them different that any other dog.
My Shiba is a very well trained dog and like any of the more energetic breeds she just needs a little more consistency, knowing what you want as the owner and not contradicting your self from day to day makes the breed wander full to work with.
I don’t know why people keep saying this. For me is not the dog is the owner. We have two purebread mameshiba and they are amazing! We had no issues with training at all. But especially the second one that is a girl it’s a breeze to train her. Super motivated by food she will do anything u ask her for food. She is 3 months, we have her for a week and she already knows her name, come, sit and down. They are getting super along together and they play all day. Plus her potty is on spot. She is peeing on the pad only close to the window door that her brother goes out to potty. Amazing dogs 😭🥺

Your videos are saving my life! I've never had a dog, except for my moms dog when I was in middle school, but I never dealt with it much. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to puppies, but I finally got my daughter one 2 weeks ago. She'd been begging for years, and now that my daughter is almost 9, I finally decided to let her get one. I think she's an Aussie/Blue Heeler mix, and she's got a beautiful blue merle coat. Her name is Kira. But OMG, the BITING. She terrifies my daughter when she starts growling, barking, lunging and biting. I know Kira is just trying to play, but her biting is out of control! We watched your video about teaching a puppy to sit about a week ago, and Kira is doing GREAT with it. She's even sat a few times without the promise of a treat! I'd love to get her to be able to "stay" as soon as possible, so that hopefully her desire to obey that command will override her desire to bite me in the crotch (yes, she's done that TWICE now) or bite my daughter's face. So, thank you for these EASY to understand puppy training videos, they're helping us a lot. I wouldn't have known how to get a dog to sit by guiding it's nose up to get her butt down if I wouldn't have watched your video. We are going to start having a trainer come out to the house next week, so hopefully that'll help. Thanks Again, Zak!
breathOf wildLife I just got a mini Aussie Shepherd and they are definitely crazy. Amazing dogs but require a lot of physical and mental activities if they are going to be well behaved. Any recommendations on puzzle toys or puzzle feeders?
Thanks. Because of this I decided to leave the biting be for the most part. Whenever he bit too hard I would Yelp and count to 3 or 4 without giving him attention and he seemed to take away from that to not bite so hard.
I decided to focus on socializing, potty training, and helping with him learning to be alone since he is a chihuahua and that will probably be one of his bigger issues
My 4 month old puppy use to play bite... I put him with another puppy for them to play... when the other puppy bites my puppy... my puppy understands the pain of bitting.. so he doesn't really bite me now :)

It's called bite inhibition. If the pup stayed with its litter for 1st 6 to 7 months then the pup would come with bite inhibition already learned.

I´ve gotten like 6 dogs, 3 of them german shepherds and truth is I never trained them but those little angels were so obedient and loyal, they never bit me nor bark or made a mess here. Sadly, other breeds need a bit more effort. I´m getting a schnauzer soon and I´m actually scared, I hope I can teach him some stuff :) Thanks for the video.

When my boxer was a puppy I sprayed my hands and my kids hands with bitter apple spray. That was the last time his teeth touched our skin. Because, I don't mess around with biting even if I know he is playing. I wanted to make sure my kids were protected. He passed away 6 months ago from cancer. He was a good dog.

Dawn don't listen to them. Just a bunch of people who know nothing of what they're talking about and want to yell at other people to feel high and mighty. I actually work at a Pet Store and there is nothing wrong with bitter apple spray. It does not harm the dog in any way, it just makes whatever you don't want them to chew to seem unappealing. That's why we have taste receptors to begin with lol To determine if something is bad or not, and usually bitter means bad. So all it does is teach the dog that biting is not good, because it tastes bad, nothing harmful about it. People like to find things to get irratated at and like to point the finger at other people because it makes them feel self righteous. Do I think using Bitter Apple is the best way to teach your dog not to bite? No. But if all else fails it's a safe and effective option. And I'm sorry to hear about your loss :( It always stinks losing a furbaby. I hope you have a great day :)

I taught my cat basic "Dog" commands. Sit, Stay, Come, Leave It, Up, Down, Off, Show Me. It took a lot of treats but it was fairly easy! He's a smart boy.

One thing I do is let out a loud yelping sound when my dog play bites too hard. Dogs will naturally stop biting when they hear this sound because they realize they have hurt you. Even if the bite isn't bad enough to cause pain, the dog will stop right away.

Try doing this. Put the leash on her when she is in the house with you (make sure you are there to supervise) and just let her follow you around the house with the leash trailing behind her. Don't hold the leash at all. You have to get her used to the leash first, before you can walk her with it.

Guys I’m so freaking excited! My family is going to Greece in two days but... a couple days ago we say the cutest Canaan/Eskimo dog mutt and I have never wanted him more. Now we are adopting (somehow my parents said yes even though we have four dogs!) and it was the luckiest draw because the organization doesn’t reserve but the foster lady said she would watch him for the two weeks we are in Greece. My mom told my sisters and I today and I’m literally crying with joy I can’t wait!!!!!!!

Have been practicing with my doberman puppy the leave it, sit and stay command while playing tug with her toy. We tug around and then I stop, asking her to leave it. She calms down a bit, lets go of the toy and then I ask her to sit and wait a couple of seconds before returning to the game. She is more focused on games as a reward than on food.
The only issue is that she runs to everybody with her toy and expects a little game of tug with her squeaky toy. If you do have not the idea of the game she will nip your hand for being a boring person lol. So everybody who comes to the house is learning how to play, and that is very nice.

I got my puppy when she was around 8 weeks and now she is 15 weeks and we started learning her the basics 5 days after we got her. It’s the best too teach them when they are young because that’s when they learn faster. By now she can sit/lay down/give paw/come when you call her. But we are learning her to roll over which she can a little
Looks and acts just like my shiba inu. I fixed the biting in one day by a quick snout smack. It wasn't mean but it shocked him and it worked ever since. My dog is 5 years old now and man he is the smartest and cutest.

Thank you. People get dogs because they are cute, realise they are alot of work without doing any research, and that is why thousands end up in shelters, abandoned and neglected.
I love shibas too, esthetically one of the most beautiful breeds imo, but that doesn't mean I'll get one. Right now, he/she wouldn't fit into my life, the breed isn't a "begginers breed" and really stubborn. I hope they researched well the breed first and not only went for the "kawaii Japanese shiba" effect.

This doesn't have to be the reason, this is probably just what got them interested initially. I got into the breed because I chose Shibas in Nintendogs. Which is a terrible reason to get a Shiba but I read up on it and fell in love with their personality

Had a friend that actually lightly smacked his dog whenever he did something real bad. The dog is probably the best behaved dog I've ever seen.
I had a shiba inu puppy. She lived to be 16 and was a delight to be around after about 20 months. Before that, she was a lot of work. I tried to leave a leash on her in the house, but this just result in leashes getting chewed in two, and it didn't take very long. Turn your back, and the leash was unusable. I also used an exercise pen when we were going to be out. She quickly realized she could move that pen. She slid it on over to the dining room table and chewed one end of it to bits. She was incredibly playful; everything was a game. I couldn't use the slicker brush for a couple years or she would hurt herself by biting it. She also ripped the hem out of multiple skirts, because she found those intriguing. She loved stealing my young sons so he would chase her. She was easy to train, as long as you had treats. But, she knew if you didn't have a treat and had her own mind. But a few months before she was 2, just like that, she became a dog I could live with.

Do a beagle video. I know the high energy is a sign of a smart dog. He doesn't have many issues other than potty training.
He was literally left in a crate up to 20hours a day. Never taken outside. Also, we have issues with him not having easy signals he has to pee.
My other dog would circle and pace ...He could just be playing and boom stop and pee on my carpet. I put a pee pad which I hate in a spot by the door because he's afraid to go outside🤦. I have a schedule of going out but he will pee, we praise, give treats as soon as he is done, and try to get him okay with being outside. He's terrified and jumping on my door.
So, peeing inside and jumping on my door are the habits i want broken sooner than later. I'm working on it but need tips for the energy of a beagle. He is very smart though I notice fast improvements with other issues we had.
My puppy enjoyed this video too! She couldn't stop watching. :) hoping this trick works.

Hi Zac,
I have a standard poodle puppy that is 13 weeks old. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old and he has still not gotten any better about being left in his confinement zone when we leave for work everyday. He’s not destructive but he does always try to escape and barks/cries for a long time. We started confining him for 2 hours and have worked our way up to 3 hours because he is older now. Any advice to help make Pablo (our poodle) more comfortable is appreciated!

I need help with my new puppy. Not sure what to do if my siberian husky isn't loving turkey. I need a high value currency for her that will keep her attention. Should I get a flavored deli meat? Or go to a dry treat? It is frustrating trying to do a training session when my treat has to be forced into their mouth instead of drooled over and desired.
