    As a young adult, I really liked him. I thought he was cool and all but then I read a book about him from a young woman who happened to be Loretta Young’s daughter and I found out that Clark Gable was her dad and he never once admitted that she belonged to him and she said that, her mom, Loretta Young opened up a bank account for her, so Clark Gable could put money in there for her but he never did put money in her account and he did absolutely nothing for this young lady, so I lost all respect for Gable!

      That is what changed my opinion of him too.
      The daughter looked like him -- Including the big ears (surgically pinned back -- But just like his before the operation)
      Not wanting contact is one thing (not good) but refusing to support the child is deplorable, Gable was not poor.

      Clarke Gable:
      # Gigolo/user of his 1st 2 wives. Inclusive of when one of his X wives became ill & in dire straights he refused to help. BUT the studio actually FORCED him to pay up & help!
      # There wasn't an affair or relationship between the religious Loretta & Gable, it was "date rape"! The studies wanted the pregnancy aborted, Loretta refused & went through an elaborate plan, ending with her adopting her own daughter. Gable wasn't interested in the child, or of supporting her.
      # Recognised satanist (a lot of Hollywood stars & elites where) & continues to this day.
      # Carol Lombard was the "love of his life" & she died in a plane crash.
      # He never got to meet his child with his 4th wife, dying himself before the birth.
      I believe that the last two points were a VERY nasty case of "Karma" catching up with Gable...

    • @kimberlyhughes6548
      @kimberlyhughes6548 Před 9 měsíci

      Karma visited him. It took him forever to divorce Ria Langham so he and Carole Lombard could marry. They were married for almost 3 years. She died in a plane crash coming home to him. At the age of 59, he was about to become a father (yeah, I know) and 4 months before the birth, he died.
      That little girl's mother was no saint either. To save her livelihood, she hid her pregnancy, gave birth in secret and sent the baby to an orphanage so she could "adopt" the girl 19 months later. Denied their blood relationship almost to her death.
      No one ditches karma.

  • @mikeakers3453
    @mikeakers3453 Před 9 měsíci +5

    Gable's "philandering" and alcohol use weren't particularly covered up. It was his on-screen persona that was carefully cultivated by Hollywood. True, they didn't like it when he was in a relationship with Joan Crawford while they were married to other people, but he wasn't about to lose his job. As punishment, Mayer would loan him out to other studios for pictures he didn't want to do. "It Happened One Night" was one of these and he won his only Oscar for it. I have been a Gable fan for over 70 years and the nonsense about running over a pedestrian is a new one. His screen image, that of a lovable rogue, was probably pretty similar to his actual persona. Burt Reynolds is a more modern example of the lovable rogue and it probably was the real him.
    The lovable rogue has all but disappeared from the cinema thanks to a thought police mentality. I would like to point out that applying 2023 political correctness (woke) standards to someone who died 63 years ago and whose prime was almost 90 years ago is so vacuous as to be laughable except that harsh, stupid, irreflective, judgment appears to be the prevailing ethos of our time. However, it isn't the least bit funny (although its legions of practitioners are occasionally so ridiculous that they provide entertainment value that they would be embarrassed by if they were not nincompoops).
    Gable's treatment of his daughter was his acceding to an impassioned plea by Loretta Young, which was the only way her ruse of adopting her own daughter would work. This allowed her to save face, a very important thing in the thirties. Loretta young was an imminently successful star who did not want or need Gable's money. Although I don't know this, I would imagine the loss for him was tremendous but he considered what he did was the proper and gentlemanly thing to do, given Young's feelings.
    Gable was famous for not liking parties and night life. His two great loves Carol Lombard (third wife) and Kay Sprekles (fifth wife) were his partners in his rugged outdoor pursuits. They were the two people he settled down with and who would likely have been permanent had Lombard lived and, with Sprekles, had he lived. Gable's first two marriages were essentially business arrangements to which all parties agreed and from which all parties benefited. His fourth marriage was a disaster, possibly exacerbated by his devastation from the death of Carol Lombard.
    The biggest Clark Gable mystery to me is that a man who could have pretty much any woman he wanted, even the stunningly beautiful, angelic, good Catholic girl, Loretta Young, ever gave Joan Crawford a second glance.
    If you are a very handsome, very masculine star in Hollywood in the thirties, you're probably going to submit to temptations that would make a 2023 wannabe activist and quasi-celebrity vilify you most self-righteously.

    Shelley Winters said he didn't have bad breath (and she should know) and apparently Loretta Young wouldn't let him see his daughter. If he was allowed to see her can you imagine that it would have caused more scandal as he, like stars today would be followed everywhere.

    Clark Gable and Joan Crawford were Box Office Gold back in the 1930's. Both were beautiful, young and vibrant people that the public loved. Their on/off the set romance translated to an onscreen chemistry that ignited the big screen. I remember reading that Crawford saw Gable in a minor role, liked what she saw and maybe even had ulterior motives too, and requested that he co-star in her picture, Dance, Fools, Dance-1931. At that time she had clout at MGM studios, it was said that the profits from her films paid for the artsy prestige pictures that didn't gross a lot of money for the studio. I can totally understand why they were drawn to each other, besides physical attraction. They both came from humble beginnings, both were streetwise and uneducated, and both were sexually promiscuous at an early age. They came from similar backgrounds, making it easy for them to feel comfortable with each other,. They didn't have to put on airs, they could be themselves with each other. There was still a class system back in the early 20th century, whose ladder both feverishly climbed, evolving and improving on their bleak and lower-class beginnings.
