This episode was so incredible, i couldn't help but stay still with shock at the end while the credits are playing.
I just sat watching the credits scroll as the snow kept piling up just at a loss for words. As of right now, this is my second favorite anime of all time, first is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
That episode is si epic and sad, But is very epic... The form he dies and how it ends... Is so perfect that i Will cry again
This scene proved that Re:Zero is an introspective masterpiece disguised as a generic fantasy escapism
Basically dark souls in the sheep skin of Isekai.
And by that I do not even mean the whole "repeating death" thing.
I mean the spectre of emotions.
you can argue that its "reverse escapism".
being sent to an isekai, a genre of fantasy and harems, only to get more reality checks than what you got from your original world.
in a sense, this is a wake up call for delusional otakus and weebs. S2E4 proved to me that it really is targeted to an escapist audience.
@@megugu2155 I think the hallmark of a well done story is that you can’t pin it to a singular theme (Subaru suffering lol), and it also isn’t only the sum of its messages, but the criticism of hikkomori-ism and otaku escapism is clearly one of the author’s priorities.
And Re:Zero does it’s critique of the familiar Isekai escapism well. It puts the everyday problems of your average Isekai purveyor: social/school anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, misdirected sense of self worth, fear of failure, etc, and, without saying those problems aren’t valid, puts them in perspective in a way that’s intended to say “Persevere. Persist. You can overcome your problems, but you can’t give up. Life is full of suffering, of pain, of problems. Don’t let your pain, your fear, or your past define you. Make every effort to overcome those things within you that hold you back and by doing so you can can face those real world problems too”
@@cahsahhhhhhhn to add to this
its ironic how even tho the story hates escapism, it acknowledges the fact that some hikki-NEETs out there only take the message if its from fictional characters. it knows that some people close their hearts from irl people so tappei is like "screw it im making anime girls make you Realize"
Tappei's indirect message to the viewer through ReZero characters:
[POTENTIAL S2 P1 SPOILERS]
>Natsuki Naoko: "you dont need a reason to exist, you werent born to fulfill a purpose."
>Rem: "there will always be someone out there that loves something about you"
>Emilia: "someone out there is always willing to help you, you only need to pay with kindness" (not sure bout this one)
>Echidna: "no matter how different they are from you, people are willing to listen"
>Minerva: "selflessness is disgusting, you have to value your life as payback for the ones that helped you live longer." (dont think about suicide)
>Satella: "love yourself more, your life has value you dont need to find a reason why. you have to be amongst the ones you wish to help." (also noticeable how Satella "permits" subaru with her "i'll allow it". as if commanding subaru to love himself so that he doesnt have to think about a reason to love himself. he'll just say "well because the witch of envy allowed me to")
Subaru was written so realistically that the messages said to him doesnt just hit him, it hits us too. Because Subaru is just like us, we also need the advice the people around him gives. If IRL people dont give you these reality checks, ReZero will give it to you indirectly. But it wont exactly delve you deep into escapism either. It avoids it in such ways like not giving Subaru hidden potential, removing Rem from the story for now (Rem was Subaru's jumpstart to ReZero, but if she was still awake rn she'll come from helper to enabler. That is a path of slothfulness.), and etc.
A multi layered reverse escapism. it even heavily implements the whole Sin vs Virtue philosophy everywhere in the show. the "seven deadly sins" here arent just for show like most animes, they are something that subaru needs to avoid to become a better person.
Thank you Tappei for this reality check.
@@nickcher7071 yes indeed.... as they say in pilgrimage......the fire fades........and the lords go without thrones........
I love the details of the snow gradually piling on Subaru’s corpse. Really makes it seem like it’s not just a repeated animation of snow fall but that it’s live
I didn't notice until you said something! How could I be so blind!??!
I think its safe to assume we all had the same reaction upon seeing this for the first time...

Man how gutsy of them to spend a full two minutes just rolling the credits and letting the music be the driving force of the episode's emotional climax. This is the scene that elevates the show into something unforgettably profound, at least for me. I especially love the use of the brass: first it's just the horn playing the theme with the strings, and then the trumpet joins in the second time through. Really great.
Orchestral music is truly a gem. This is a truly beautiful composition, such heartbreak that puts romeo and juliet to shame imo
White Fox when making this episode: I am a stud. I’m ballsy. I don’t take no shit from anyone. I don’t have to find a hideout place like you OHOHOHO
It helps that the Re:Zero soundtrack is one of the best ever, and this is one of its best songs
I don’t understand how people say this show is bad, this scene right here shows that this show is one of the best scenes in isekai anime. This is 10/10 100% my favorite anime
Yeah a lot of the critiques I’ve read online just don’t work, especially after season 2.
@@natanickii99 some so called 'anime youtuber' (i dont want to call out names) where they either trash the show/ trying to justify their elitist mind or being biased with their review. Hope they continue watching this show as season2 currently are top tier with more things explained
@@R3in_Ch bro season 2 is my favorite anime season back when I just watched season 1 I thought to myself Subaru should just shut up and die and then every death was just a normal scene to the point that I even forgot this scene existed but after realizing that death was hard on Subaru at season 2 everything just started hitting me differently and I feel like I must rewatch the series to live it the way it should be
Yeah I have no major critiques whatsoever, maybe a couple minor ones. For me it's at the same peak as shows like Hunter x Hunter, FMA Brotherhood, Magi, etc. So to me they're all so close that it's just minor preferences that change my top spots.
I'd personally put it at #2 behind Hunter x Hunter still, but by the end of Re:Zero there's a good chance those will either tie or flip
yeah its the age old "this show is popular and beloved, i must dislike it!" mentality. there really is no good reason to say the show is anything short of a 7/10 without nitpicking incessantly
Everyone is saying imagine if this was the ending to season 1. No imagine if Subaru only had a certain amount of times he could return by death and this was his last life.
Thats what I thought it was, they rolled credits I thought the show was over didn't even stick around for the scene at the end.
The only emotion anyone could feel there is
*W H A T*
NO... My reaction was "YEASSSSSS!!!!"
As there's only a handful of beautifully done epic tragic scenes I've seen... This scene is definitely my top 3...
I like to imagine Subaru was somehow still alive through the whole credit sequence, as just a head, unable to look away.
fun fact: when you're beheaded, there is still a short amount of time you are still conscious.
This episode. One of the greatest single episodes of any anime of all time
The piece is so perfect for this. The heartbreak. The agony, the deepest sadness that could kill the purest of souls. Pure tragedy. Such a beautiful composition, all they have to do is let the music speak, that alone is enough to drive one to tears...
But strengthen the strongest of souls. Pain is needed for growth theres no running from it. Subaru growth throughout the story is the true beauty of the this anime.
This gives me the feels every time

It is a masterpiece
The ost when it's rising and lowing

After I watched this scene I texted my friend and said "what did u get me into. Why do I love it. Isnt it a masterpiece"
It really is a masterpiece in the making. I can't wait until Arc 6 is animated, there we will see what the author is capable of. I'm not saying that to put down this episode, it truly is one of the best episodes of an anime I have ever seen, the author is a mad genius who climbs to new heights of storytelling.
@@Stuugie. hell yeah bro, arc 6 was a fucking shitstorm of emotions, and the author was just BRILLIANT at handling the concept of memories, and not only that, the fact that the twists barely have any loop holes and makes so much sense despite what seemed like to be a deadlock at the beginning, tappei is a goddamn genius, im currently reading at the the payoff part of arc 6 (last 10 chapters) and i thought the twists would end there and tappei just decides to "fuck it, i'll whip volcanics and just put him stop the tower, and you know what? why not give him alzheimer's?". holy shit, it's so complex it's sometimes hard to comprehend it all at once

I keep going back here to experience the true animated depiction of absolute hopelessness and despair. not many anime can convey despair as much as this one scene.
The last time i felt despair and hopelessness like this was from Monster with the child that Johan led to go to the red light district to "search for his mom".
When making this episode, they said "Let's roll!". And sure it was like that: They rolled his head, they rolled the ending credits and they fucking rolled my tears.
The music is named Requiem of Silence if you're interested
I have watched so many animes across various genres, but to this day, Re:Zero is the only anime that has made me tear up

I like how even though we know subaru can return by death, yet the anime does such an amazing job at making us feel such strong emotions. Wow.
Agreed - it affects Subaru in a way that cannot simply be forgotten as soon as he returns. He deals with the trauma, and there’s always an underlying fear that he’ll return to a place where he won’t be able to save someone

Subari Is The Reality Of Us iF Go To Isekai
Idk if there’s many moments in all of anime that made me feel like this scene did. The entire episode was fantastic, still probably my favorite of the series so far, but this scene had me simultaneously covered in goosebumps and on the verge of sobbing. The absolute despair you feel and the knowledge that Subaru has to find a way to fix this unbelievably bleak future or else he’ll keep having to watch the people he loves and cares about die over and over again are enough to sell any anime fan on this series imo.

First time I watched this, my jaw dropped faster than Subaru's head. OST gives me chills
Re:Zero.. the message you left is beautifully hearth-wrecking, this show got me thinking and perplexedly shock, I usually don’t do this watching any type of entertainment but.. I unintentionally cried watching this, it wasn’t just.. wow. At least for me Re:Zero remains as one of the most important anime’s in my life, it just hit spots and made you realize some stuff, it sticks out for me incredibly enough to even hold me into thinking the importance of one as an individual and the importance of those that make you whole as one. It reflects struggle, innocent love, betrayal, happiness, sadness, it reveals a harsh world in which you can’t prepare for even by been able to change everything, only letting you change what you can and making you accept your faults and those of others, letting people into your life and some out of it, only helping you grow and walk on the direction leading to your happiness, which will be reached only if you are prepared to struggle and fixed on getting there, no true happiness comes without true struggle, we all can get where we want to, but the question is how bad do we want it, and if we are willing to give in order to gain. I don’t want to make this comment to deep or anything but gosh I love this anime and this beautiful community, may all of you reach your goals, and get where all of you deserve to be.
This is my favorite episode of any anime ever made..

Probably one of the single greatest episodes of any anime ive ever seen.
