      Aarrgghhhh...you beat me to it!! I too miss Alan dearly & I certainly don't consider it a mere coincidence that my two all-time favourite DM albums - "Violator" & "SOFAD" - were his last two with them...he wasn't just a brilliant musician & an incredible producer but he was also a great 'look' for the band & simply as cool as fuck, IMO...& when you combined Alan with Dave, the greatest frontman in the world (again, in my humble opinion) & Martin, a high-quality songwriter & a very handy backing vocalist (I must confess that I've never much enjoyed any of their more 'gentle' songs, for which he was the lead vocalist) & musician in his own right, they were fucking WOW!!
      PS. But I must confess that I've always been disappointed in/surprised by how little I've enjoyed all of Alan's work with his own, post-DM project, Recoil - which I was 100% sure was going to provide me with the greatest electronic music ever produced & thus relegate the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk & the Pet Shop Boys, within my rather sizeable CD collection, to 'second-string' in comparison...but nope, t'was not to be, sadly...

      I love Alan as much but let's be 100% honest, in this demo and also the one for "here is the house" and "lie to me" shows clearly the melodic lines where totally written by Martin, in these 3 cases actually everything was done by him beside mix/production

      Yeah. It was Alan that made the version of this song that we now. "Lets speed this beast up a bit". I thought it was that Alan said when he heard martins demo. The rest is music history.

    alan wilder created a masterpiece that we all know and love. but i also like the demo, the romanticism and sensuality and martin’s voice, of course! this song would never shoot without framing that wilder made. it’s interesting to see the difference of their vision of this song.

      @user-gl9fi3zj6w Před 3 lety

      I think you are both right and wrong. Dave's voice sounds dispassionately, detached and quite emotionally empty so does the image of a king he plays in music video. Martin sings with involvement and melancholy which is also a valid perfomance version.

    Holy shit this is beautiful. I like this better than the original. Same with I Want You Now. Sometimes the demos are so much cooler. Always interesting to see how a song first started before it's edited.
