      @shutupshelley1793 Před 5 měsíci +10

      I disagree. To me, her mix of traditional and modern is absolutely not seamless and, in fact, isn't at all complimentary to the home's origin. If I were ever to buy that house from her after her renovation, the first thing I would do would be to replace all those awful, modern light fixtures that seem to be flipping off the stately integrity of that marvelous old home. They're so laughably wrong for this home and stick out so like a sore thumb that they distract from the original interior architecture instead of sticking to their purpose of sophisticated illumination of it. Next I would dim down that aggressively yellow paint color in the entryway and then I would merrily tear down that comically horrible wallpaper in the kitchen. (There are absolutely COUNTLESS* wallpaper designs out there... and she chose *THAT*?? 🙄 Wow.) And while I love the dining table, the chairs...oy! The chairs... again distracting from the rest of the room and simply not auspicious in any sense. Naturally, that's just my opinion, of course, although I'll note I'm well-schooled in art and design, not that that will matter to anyone, but maybe it should.😉 Obviously, we all have our different preferences and sense of what looks good, I'm just a true believer in celebrating and respecting the history and architecture of an older home by reflecting that more than less in its interior design. The End 🤗

    Fun little piece of minutiae: when Betsy was talking about how hard it was to deal with the tin ceiling panels in the kitchen, she didn’t mention that Wheeling, W.V. was actually home to the largest manufacturer of tin ceiling panels in the US in the late 1800s, roundabout when the building boom of this kind of home was getting underway. So there’s a really good chance that the original installer would have been able to go get the panels at the local distributor hot off the press right there in their hometown.

The neighborhood this house is in is the most sketchy, drug infested, dangerous, low income, homeless shelter area in Ohio County. Not trying to burst anyone's bubble but it's where u DO NOT go once it starts getting dark. The upside is the police department is only a couple blocks away, but the hospital close to there closed down, so if u get shot, u have a little ride to the hosp. I'm not exaggerating or being mean. @hsmd4533 it sucks because some of the houses in that park of town were beautiful old Victorian homes. Wheeling was the capital of WV, so the upper crust built huge homes here. There was a booming economy here with lots of industry. Businesses left, coal mines closed, industry shut down, and now it is a different story. Sad, but true

    This house is imperfectly perfect! I absolutely love the wallpapers in the bedroom. It’s unique and shows off the years and tastes of the home and people that have lived there. I would keep the stairs as they are. Again, it shows the age of the home and I would say the love of going up and down. Thank-you so much for sharing. ❤️

    Omg the bathroom wallpapers are my absolute favorite! I can’t decide which one I like the most, but I think I’m leaning towards the one with the red flowers… Also totally in love with the peeling/multilayered historical record in the main bedroom - not only literally/aesthetically but also for what it symbolizes and the way that it respects, incorporates and strategically showcases the special character aspects/eccentricities of the house rather than just painting over them. I love seeing the unique ways that people find to integrate/highlight original features when restoring or renovating old homes like this that are just bursting with rich history, special details and charm. So inspiring! Congrats on the gorgeous home Betsy!

    Props to all who've restored this home and respected it's history. Many here in CA have purchased California craftsman homes (my favorite) and simply gutted them on the inside without trying to keep much of the history in the restoration.
    Now I've even been thinking of moving to Wheeling.
