@@aki2662 Oh, I *wasn't* calling The Wokalyte a chick flick. It would be a total failure even at that... but it might have been an *attempt* at doing it.
In fact, *everything* that has come from Disney SW is *probably* an attempt at doing that.
I think Bob Iger is on record as saying that is what KK wanted to do... turn SW into a girl brand.
IMO, that isn't possible... any more than turning GI Joe into a girl brand... or Barbie into a boy brand... nor should it even be attempted.

I’m gay and Latin and I don’t care about representation. I care about good stories and movies and shows and staying true to the lore of whatever it is that’s being told. Think this is what I find so interesting. The fact that this idea of the “community” isn’t really speaking on behalf of everyone who identifies within that community. It’s more so catering to this extremist version who’s using identity politics to make themselves feel oppressed and victimised and therefore always have something to fight against.
I’ve seen countless people who have stated that they are either gay, lesbian or even trans and aren’t aligning themselves within the community cos they think it’s become toxic and pandering.

With her earlier work, Headland was mostly making original projects. Heathers had been dormant since the 80s, but was a work where fans of the original would likely enjoy being subversive. You could have a restaurant where the gimmick was being deliberately insulting or where the chef made whatever the hell they wanted (they could name the restaurant "Eat me"). But you'd be negotiating a contract with new customers. You tell them (or otherwise arrive at an understanding) that they'll be sitting down for a different kind of dining experience. Then there's no betrayal, no breach of faith. Most restaurants, if the chef messes up, they'd apologize and fix the dish OR refund your money. I don't see Disney Plus refunding customers.

They can blame "review bombing" all they want. At the end of the day, a studio renews a show based on VIEWERSHIP, not reviews. That is how some awful shows can still get renewed, while some incredible shows can still get canceled. No viewers, no show. This show failed to hold an audience and was therefore canceled. This isn't rocket science.

You do realise viewership is affected by reviews, right? Like I'm not invested in Acolyte either way, but the amount of people I know who have refused to watch a show, any show because of some review they saw or read online that trashed it. There are certain review sites that have millions of followers who will watch or not watch anything they suggest. So yes, viewership is what they look at but reviews affect that. Otherwise, why would the trolls go through so much trouble to try to review bomb them, if it wasn't a factor. There is a correlation between the two. Like, I'm surprised it even needs to be said. This isn't something new.

    • @46sn29
      @46sn29 Před 20 dny +8

@secretlyadragon4723 Two things. First, just because something has poor audience reviews doesn't automatically mean it will fail to find an audience. Look at how much money every single Michael Bay Transformers movie made despite a rotten audience score for every single one of them, with the exception of the first film. Hell, Captain Marvel was "review bombed" and still made a billion dollars worldwide. Second, the Acolyte had a fairly decent premiere. Then steadily lost viewers as the show progressed. That tells me that audiences lost interest in the show, not that they avoided the show because of negative reviews.

I've seen people blame racism for Star Trek fans hating their new slop too, which is rich because classic Star Trek has made history for its diversity. The original series was massively controversial because it had a black woman as a competent and respected officer, MLK Jr was a huge fan! Voyager has a female captain, a Native American first officer, a Latina chief engineer, a black Vulcan, and a Korean ensign. And guess what? WE LOVE IT

When the message becomes the focal point of the story it overshadows the actual content. The problem with Disney is they’re trying to force the audience on thinking a certain way through a propaganda type of narratives. If you ask most people they want diversity in races, backgrounds, gender, and sexual orientations. However, it must be done organically where it’s built around the actual narrative, not the other way around. When it feels forced and unnatural you’re going to get pushback from your audience.

Honestly, they didn't even go for it though. If Osha and Jecki were actually gay lovers, and then she got full of dark side rage when her lover was killed, that actually might of been interesting. I mean the witches 'might' of been gay but it was entirely in the background and didn't effect anything at all.

Agreed. I like the way My Adventures with Superman does it. There's gay people, but it's not a super focus, nor do they draw extra attention to it. I'm not a supporter of the woke agenda, but THAT'S the way to make it work. Clark is kind of a simp, but he always was. Lois is a girlboss, but she always was (at least from the 90s cartoon). Plus, her background story makes her toughness make sense.

@@TheFistOfNuevaYork Tbh I don't want Deadpool to be part of the M(She)U but if Disney just did what Ryan Reynolds does by giving the people, who keeps the company alive, what they want then Disney will succeed. But of course only if they had a brain

I’m still floored by the fact that one of the stars (Amandla) created a song about all the “haters” calling everyone who didn’t like the show racists all the while talking about wanting to “make white people cry”

In addition to cancelling season 2, Disney has yanked promised Acolyte-themed merch from the Disney Store online. That's a bad sign for the show, as even unpopular movies/single-season shows like The Last Jedi & Kenobi have a few pieces of merch available. It sounds like Disney is planning to give The Acolyte the Willow series treatment - scrub it off Disney + servers and refuse to acknowledge it ever happened.

That last quote of yours Brett is such a banger "Focus on the story of Star Wars rather than the actors Skins" *Microphone Drops *

Idk what happened with Disney, but its absolutely pathetic, how they do this with every single show.
Its fine to have diversity here and there, but what they are doing is feeding people with that stuff, acting like not being gay isnt normal anymore.

The people screaming about it being cancelled don't even care about or watch Star Wars.

Disney is only getting the logical outcome of ignoring and then condemning its audience.
