  • Building of elevated wicking bed for our root vegetables. Pretty simple and easy to build and will use 80% less water than a conventional raised or elevated garden bed as only what is needed is used and very little surface evaporation, and no runoff.

The third video today I've seen all using Kellogg garden soils/amendments. My favorite for years. Local, California company. OMRI certified. Good video, thanks. I really like the size/height of the bed. Bending isn't as easy as it once was.

Looks good. I used pond liner from Home Depot but I didn't make a wicking bed. Love that idea!

First off I would like to say I love the bed and will model mine after this one but it seems to me that the only time you get wicking is when the water level is high enough to reach the landscape fabric (full bed). Wouldn't it be better is you had some way of wicking water all the way to the bottom of the water reservoir and using all the water in the reservoir? I think the potting mix needs to descend to the bottom of the bed in places. I would suggest providing some number of holes cut into the landscape fabric and drop a planting pot into the hole (move the gravel as needed) and then fill the small planting pots with the soil mix thus providing the planting bed some way of reaching the water at low levels.

I was thinking the same thing. Did you end up trying your solution?

when making the 36", 23", and 10" tall pieces, you need to make one of the pieces an inch less because those measurements add up to 37". I tried it and my 23" plus my 10" plus the 4" from the cross beam turns out to be 37" and sticks up above the 36" 2x4.

How well did your carrot seeds germinate with that mulch on it? I would have waited till they sprouted then mulched personally. Good looking bed.

Nice job! Wouldnt it be a good idea to put some air stones in there to freshen things up a bit?

Question: Why didn't you use Perlite instead of lava rocks? Since Perlite's cheap and light and holds water, I'm just wondering, is there is a particular reason you didn't choose it?

Excelente vídeo sobre sua cama de cultivo. Gostaria de duas informações: Qual é a altura da cama úmida? Qual é a altura da camada do solo/substrato?
    Grato pela atenção.
