Mephiles kinda gets a pass on the finger snapping with gloves on thing cuz his Shadow based physical form is more of an avatar, could say he's technically not made of flesh in that form. And the closest thing Sonic X got to Metal Sonic was in a Comic, it was known as Robot X, it was more of an metal copy of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy all at once.

I prefer the Unleashed cartoony style. That way it doesn't feel strange to have them alongside Sonic. On that note, I'm probably the only fan who'd argue that the whole Sonic and Elise thing would be less awkward if the humans weren't designed that realistic. Not by much though, probably from a 9/10 to a 6.
