      It was absolutely barbaric what they did to her. They could have at least told her. Or given her something for the pain. I know they said they give as much milk of the poppy as is safe for the baby, but I think that only means if the labor goes on for longer. They could have put her to sleep. Or did something so she was not afraid and screaming. They butchered her. It's horrifying.

    Daemon in the book is described as being both loved and hated in equal measure. If you are with him he inspires great devotion and loyalty.... and if you're his enemy as equal hate and fear. So far Matt Smith plays it perfectly. I also like paddy Constantines king Viserys. He's slightly different from the book. He's more of a tragic character in this, a good person but weak king. The crown sits heavy on his head. So far it seems they have done a great job casting all the characters.

    Fascinating how people get different views based on the same content. I didn’t see Daemon as the villain. He seemed the most honest. What he said to the king was right - all the council do think the king is weak and are manipulating him. Plus he does seem to care about his family. That being said my favourite character in GoT was Jaime Lannister so I clearly like the complicated ones! Mind you, I went off the king the moment he didn’t even think his wife deserved to know she was about to die. No choice over what happens to her body. I won’t be crying for him when he dies, which seems inevitable.

Which I did see. Yeah he want the Iron Throne more than anything but I think deep down he doesn’t want it if it means the cost of his brothers life.
    Also as much as I disliked the cutting between the scenes of the tourney and the birthing I understand why they did that. Emma said that giving birth is a battle, and she was right.

Daemon respects the tradition of male inheritance of the throne, he doesn't have interest in rushing it. He enjoys the clout as Prince/heir but doesn't necessarily vie for the absolute power of it.

    I really liked Emelia Clark's performance in general, but after watching this I've realized how bad she was at speaking her Old Valarian lines. I know they've had several more years to develop it but this series have people delivering old valarian in a way that felt way more natural and it felt more like a fleshed out culture in this. Like whenever Dany did it, its was super dramatic and over the top. But there was so many regular conversations in this.

    • @roguechevelle
      @roguechevelle Před 2 lety +4

      Well it's good to keep in mind too that this takes place many years before then and she moved around alot as a child, languages have different accents or dialects depending on where your from or places you live in influence your accent. Anyone who speaks a second language or that has lived abroad for a while can tell you that accents differ. They have a professional linguist that developed the language and works with the actors, it may have been a conscious choice to have the accents differ because of the difference in timeframes and upbringing. They also seem to speak it with more frequency being that there are more Targaryen's in existence at this time while it seems Dany was the last of her line (or so she thought) also it sounds a bit like her Dothraki influenced some of her accent in Valarian as well since she spoke Dothraki with more frequency.

    • @LS13.
      @LS13. Před 2 lety +3

      Because the language was still somewhat around during this time within our characters. During danys time the language was basically extinct in Westeros, so they made it a point that she could speak it. And yes it wasn’t well developed then. Dany didn't have the kind of security and support and accessibility of the targaryen empire & culture that we're being shown here, she was an exile being hunted & figuring everything out on her own. In GOT I believe valyrian is seen as an old & dead language by that time. She was surviving in a post targaryen world, if anything this new series has made me realise that her rise is kind of a miracle given all that context. I wouldnt really expect her portrayal to be that of a self-assured targaryen who is fully in tune with her heritage & roots. But to each his own, everyone's interpretation of it is going to differ.

    I'm a huge Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire fan and the amount of nostalgia and immersion I felt being back in this world and knowing some of the history and characters was something I can't describe!
    The foreshadowing for not only what's coming but even for what we know happens in Game of Thrones was an amazing feeling! Beginning to end I was engaged and interested in all the characters and the acting was phenomenal, that Viserys and Daemon scene was so raw to me.
    Everything about this first episode from the birth scene all the way to Viserys's speech to Rhaenyra was a sight to behold (which his speech gave me chills down my spine, combined with the music just struck a chord with me).
    So far I really love Paddy Considine as Viserys you can telI he wants to be a good king and an even better patriarch for his family but he's struggling to do both and he has the potential to do it but like Daemon said he is creating his own downfall in some aspects, he inherited the throne from the previous king who had a reign of decades of peace that he's still trying to uphold and I just love the struggle we're seeing with his character.
    I have faith in this show, the world, and the possible stories to be told and so far with this episode alone made up for Season 8 for me 😂
    Can't wait to continue watching this along with you guys and seeing your reactions to how this story unfolds!
