Het is een boek over de vrijheid om de dingen anders te zien dan dat ze ons worden voorgeschoteld. Het hoofdpersonage vindt soelaas door een portret van een idool in te kaderen. Het zit dikwijls in de details. Niet alle huwelijken zijn een mislukking. Het hoofdpersonage voelt zich ongelukkig. Daar gaat het over en dat kan in een bepaalde fase ook het geval zijn voor de lezer.
