Prince of Persia 2008 - A Retrospective - Hry
I love the original trilogy. But god damn the 2008 remake is so
Underrated. I wish they would continue its story.
It would be pretty fun to see in all honesty, with how far parkour has come too in gaming, traversal possibilities are insane.
I loved this game that everyone else hated... and it really hurt that we never got a sequel. I get there where shallow elements, such as the combat and the lack of death.... but to me that could have been rectified fairly easily in a new game that built on the great foundation seen here. The characters where amazing, with the banter and romance being captivating to me. Then you add in the just beautiful cell shaded art style, and its a game I could never tire watching.
I agree. Honestly my personal opinion is that the Death bit was the biggest issue for me. I would love to see either an updated variant of this world and setting, or a sequel that improves the aspects and gets even crazier with the parkour.
@@NuGundam644 I feel like the lack of death is in fact, the death itself, if that sounds silly. Normally you'd die and just end up sitting through a loading screen before you can try again. Elika saving you is essentially that loading screen, speeding up the flow of the game while making sure you don't lose much progress in a worst case scenario.
I disagree about the combat being shallow.
It's different certainly, but it's also unique and stylish. Very different from what most other action platformers present.
Agree about sequel and the rest in my opinion this game was a masterpiece, the “fun factor” is off the charts, the atmosphere, visuals very underrated game
Number one I also loved the game number two I replayed it just yesterday number three is does have another game for Ds prince of Persia the fallen king
Also would like to mention how beautiful this game looks on all fronts.
It is beyond beautiful
NGL, lacking of death was not such a big deal for me and I remember I always liked that it keeps flow and makes it feel natural
But maybe Iam too nostalgic, while this being my first real game
incredibly underrated game, espically from an art design perspective. People jsut hated on it cause it was different from the orginals, which i admit put me off at first, but i think if this game had been called anything other than price of persia it would have been loved
You are completely right about that honestly.
This was one of my all time favorite games! I absolutely LOVED the visuals, and loved the characters too! I feel like no one remembers this game:(
It has been said to death in the comments already, but I fully agree. Elika saving you if you fall is NOT a big deal. Only a few games make death matter, and it's almost always in Hell Dificulty where dying means you have to restart the game from scratch. Every other game put's you back a few seconds or minutes back. At most it's your last save and then it's on you to see how far back you last saved or if there was an autosave even sooner.
But here, you have the story itself justifying it. You have your parkour skills, she has her magic...both have ways to get to the next location but can't simply "carry" the other one there. But there are obstacles that can only be overcome by the two. And they even put what seems at first like just a simple coat of paint over the respawn mechanic intu actual use against one of the bosses. I myself was looking for a puzzle there for several minutes, wondering what mechanic I needed, before it came to me. I needed to force the real Elika into doing something only she could or would do. Leaping off the ledge, I saw the same animation I had seen several times before while cursing myself for slipping up, and it felt like all of those times before gained so much more context. So much more meaning. She wasn't just there to give the Prince someone to banter with, to fill what would otherwise be near endless silence, and as a reskin for the respawn. She was a person who storywise was actually on her own adventure and had been looking out for me all this time.
I know what you mean. But in my mind it does kinda...I dunno the saving thing for me works better as a boss battle mechanic maybe. Although I think from an actual programmatic standpoint it's impressive.
I only played a small amount of this game back then and one thing I loved was the combat and the gloomy scenery(I really loved the idea of purifying areas and seeing how good they look)
Omg i remember this, awesome game!!!
I never got to play is at a kid! 😁 so I decided to fix that
@@NuGundam644 good job 😁
I think this game would be much more successful in the current gaming environment than the one it was released in. QTE-style platforming and combat, as well as instant respawns are quite common in games nowadays I feel, so this wouldn't be out of place at all. I think if it was released today and not in 2008, it would have been a much greater success. Assassin's Creed is becoming stale and Prince of Persia needs a refresher.
This was so cool man. God I miss this❤
Its definitely a great game. Has some flaws though😅
@@NuGundam644 It did, but it was still fun.
Nice coverage of this Retro game
Thanks for checking it out!
Love the design of the main character
I wanted to know if people enjoyed this game as much as I did !
For me it's the simplicity, the universe and the music that did it. This game is a ballad.
Absolutely LOVED this version of PoP. It was beautiful and kept me coming back until I finished the game. The "not dying" complaint didn't bother me one bit - thought it was a spectacular game.
It was definitely a very pretty game.
Interesting intro makes me want to get the game.
You should give it a try honestly 😁
Good review
I pretty much lost my hope for a sequel.
Yeah. I'm not sure Ubisoft would ever revisit this
I really enjoyed it, enough to consider setting up my 360 to revisit soon and watch videos to hype up that idea first 😅
The ending stuck with me, it’s the thing I remember most. But I forgot how good the visuals hold up. A remaster if this game would be pretty nice!
The visuals are absolutely insane
gods the art and banter here was fun. i get it's not the best but hating on it was just dumb. imma replay this with my SO now 😁
DO IT. (I know I'm late)
I honestly liked the lack of death in this game.
loves this game, i still own it for many years now, get confused when it wont run when i get windows 10 (apparently there are problem with v-sync). the things i don't like -yes- the combat mechanic, lack of enemies, that qte (quick time event), annoying push to edge thing, and that final fight with alchemist.
i think that must pressing 'T' to talk often make the dialog precede the scene. just made it in cutscene or automatically do that conversation while running.
some people stuck on water puzzle (the cuncubine / queen's land) they can not move to other map and must finish it.
you can talk 'T' on early game after meeting princess for the first time, it have a lots of dialog. and i just found it recently.
Yeah when I installed it. I had to install some ancient version of directx. It was a high potential game, i consider it excellent in terms of exploration but far weaker in combat.
The game looked great and I enjoyed the combat system but, I didn't like the exploration aspect which forced you to find the single right path to move forward then a slight tap in the wrong way would send you off the correct path and either you had to make you way back to the start or you die and are right back to the start. The gameplay mechanics didn't work when exploring.
Just got this, hoping its fire
This is a game that *begs* for souls-like combat. Imagine a sequel to this with similar, but more punishing platforming and souls-like combat, in the veins of something like Jedi Fallen Order. It would be an instant success.
That would actually rock. Without the weight system though. I think that'd cause a few issues.
Hey, the partner help jump is done almost the same in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game. :)
I saw haha!
A nu upload? Don't mind if I do.
Dew it
Ok maybe I'm tempted to give a PoP a try again, I just couldn't deal with the platforming 😂
In the older ones I admit its a bit of a hassle🤣
Hey Nu haven't seen you lately. You doing more streaming these days? Nice learning about this game. I haven't played any of them. Interesting take comparing the combat to dark souls in a way.
I've been a bit away I admit. But aiming to fix that😁 glad ya liked the video!
the combat was one of the most fun parts
how dare you have a different opinon than me
💙
The_ Price_ off_ Rapp,, Tôzin!!!
😁
good video is it ok if I ask you a question?
Absolutely
@@NuGundam644 have you heard of fire emblem?
I have indeed
@@NuGundam644 have you played any of theme?
Not for a very long time if I am honest.
I'm currently playing this game on PC since I never had the chance to play it as a kid, and I give it credit for looking absolutely great and having a good soundtrack(s). But personally this game is just so boring. I've been playing for a good few hours in total, and it's just the same repetitive thing over and over again. I'm actually considering not finishing it since it's more effort than fun for me to play. I have played other Prince of Persia games, and recently I played The Forgotten Sands which I felt (at the time) was good enough but not great. I played this one and it's such a bad experience for me that it makes The Forgotten Sands seem exceptional! I will give it a bit more time, but we will see how it turns out.
I'd love to hear if your opinion changes when you reach the end!
Sad that Ubisoft went from interesting, experimental games like this to generic, bloated open world games.
Right? AC Origins was good Valhalla was...well it was.
The game gets quite a lot of praise even though it's a 'mixed bag', and frankly I never understood why. I found it to be completely awful and boring, and a step down in every single regard to the previous games.
Difficulty completely removed. Cool time powers completely removed. Blood/Gritty Feeling gameplay completely removed. Wall running felt more floaty and parkour less refined even if on a bigger scale than the other games. Story far inferior to all of the titles in the trilogy. Combat was trash. And the entire game all your agency is taken away because you have to rely on magic waifu for everything. I hated just about everything in this game, other than I thought the Prince looked kinda neat.
That's fair. I see the viewpoint for you, I just thought it was kind of a unique specimen
