It is so fascinating. She lived until 2007. It is so sad that Andy's mom didn't get to meet her, but Ellen might not want to be found… Andy’s mom made it clear to the adopting agency (since 1989) that she is interested in meeting her biological parents. @@louvretreekay12_ No one said they felt a bond, but it was mentioned that Andy's mom had wanted to know about her birth family for years. So it's heartwarming that she got to fill that emotional need. And maybe they did indeed feel a bond -- there are adopted people who feel a bond with people they are biologically related to, while there are other adopted people only feel a family type bond with their adopted families. There's no need to judge either approach; adopted people can process their pasts in many different ways without any of the approaches being bad or wrong. But I suppose not everyone understands other people's feelings either, so nothing prevents you from thinking feeling a bond is weird

Everybody is Ashkenazi-Jewish in some part, on this show. Taking into consideration that Poland had the largest Jewish diaspora in the world for centuries - from the Middle Ages till the 1700s (before the United States was created). And after the birth of the US, Poland had the second largest Jewish diaspora before WWII, plus, the fact that The US Jewish diaspora actually started from Polish Jews emigrating to the New York area, it is very possible that GRRM's real grandfather was a Polish Jew. Polish and Jewish people are everywhere, literally. 😂

The Louise Wise adoption agency was known for taking twins, triplets and splitting them up and sending them to different homes without telling the parents to be that the child did actually have a sibling. It was a nature vs nurture experiment; to see if children from the same birth would grow up to exhibit the same behaviours despite their upbringing being very different. These children reached adulthood before learning they even had siblings and some have reconnected. The agency to this day refuses to release information even to the children who were adopted out about what they did to them, and people are having to resort to DNA tests to locate family that went through this agency. The documentary Three Identical Strangers goes in-depth on this. Its really very sad.

But it was nice to see the photo of them on a date & hearing how they met at the 'hangout' sounds like evidence for a more consentual encounter & potential relationship. But we don't know things like if he knew she was pregnant for example. Although holding on to the photo makes it seem like he likely did & it was a part of his past he wanted to remember.

This is so satisfying and relatable for me. I was adopted and through ancestry I was able to finally find my birth families. In fact I ended up living in the same city as my maternal family. My neighbors brother was actually married to my first cousin and she was the first one I made contact with about my findings and questions...sadly I didn't get to meet my biological mother as she had passed but it led me to my half brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles maternally. With more research through ancestry I found my first and many other family members on my paternal side... I just remember being so excited and overwhelmed as well. I’ve done a similar thing to what they did her for Andy. I found my maternal grandmother, who put my mother up for adoption, via DNA testing and my mothers original birth certificate with her biological mothers name. Unfortunately she had passed away, but to see a photo of my grandmother was crazy, because my mum was a SPITTING image of her and I think that helped my mum in some way - knowing someone out their looked like her. She also found out she had a half-brother. Haven’t yet found her biological father - her mother and father didn’t stay together - but I’m sure I’ll find him eventually.

We’re both laughing, laughing so much that I can hardly catch a breath, and finally I laugh so hard I wet myself, but that only makes him laugh the louder. I was never afraid when he was throwing me. I knew that he would always be there to catch me."
That's a quote from Mya Stone, one of Robert Baratheon's bastards. I can't help but relate that to GRRM's story about his presumed grandfather throwing him up in the air. George said that for him it was a terrifying experience, while for Mya it was exhilarating. It seems like George really took to heart one of his example's words, which were that a writer should always "bleed on the page", to use their own true experiences for the stories they're writing. Fascinating to apparently learn about one of those in this video.
