- On Capri you can find the beginning of VIa Krupp just by the Gardens of Augustus.
Herculaneum (known as Ercolano in Italian) is easy to get to using the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento or Naples.

Dorset Apple Cake recipe, via Helen from @40plusnotgivingupyet on Instagram
225g self raising flour
1tsp baking powder
200g castor sugar
2 eggs
150g melted butter
250g diced apples
25g flaked almond (not obligatory)
preheat oven to 160°c
grease 1 round cake tin
Mix everything together except the apples.
Spread half onto cake tin. Heap the sliced apples in the centre and spread the rest of the cake mix over it, trying to completely cover it.
Sprinkle flaked almonds over the top.
Bake for 1 1/4 hours 160°c

I had the IMMENSE honor of running into Nicki and her husband when we were walking around Positano as they were walking their dogs. She is even more beautiful and gracious in real life. How wonderful that Skye will be visiting her grandfather. She will likely look upon trips like those in her future with great fondness. Skye is a very loved young lady and it is so touching to see the men in her life show affection to her. Also, Nicki gave Skye more sleep time when she needed help in the kitchen. I prefer Herculaneum over Pompeii as well, though as an archeology geek, I loved them both! I liked how close you could get to everything in Herculaneum, while in Pompeii it felt as if more things were blocked off. A friend and I are planning a trip to Italy in 2024, and we will visit both - I can't wait! There have been so many new discoveries made since I was last there. I know they won't all be available to look at, but I find it all absolutely fascinating.
Archeology geek here, too:). Have been able to visit a number of times. For me, that has really worked with Pompeii, as I have seen different sections each visit. I am fascinated with both. Such different stories. 2000 and 2007 climbed Vesuvious. Have fun in 2024. I envy you this next adventure.

Hello from the states, I have been following your channel Nicki for several years and love it. We also live in an RV since 2020 and have been traveling around during the winter months down south and summer up north in Washington State. Can’t wait for more of your stories ❤
David seems to be an easy guest who enjoys himself well among friends. I noted the Krupp name on the gate. Is that the German Krupp family of Essen that are famous for steel, artillery and ammunition (or infamous)? OK, it is that Krupp family. It is good that you are taking time to be with David, rather than worrying about us. You all need to enjoy being social when you work hard daily, like everyone else. Your luncheon table looked inviting, both in its decor and the feast presented. How wonderful that Skye is close enough to Harry to just go visit him on her own, even, for a few days at a time. He must love that. Razor clams. I know them. I could not see them inside, so was really just noting the shells. That's settled. Do you have public libraries there?
Love waking up on a Sunday morning dreaming I’m in Italy again, aaaahhh! Never been to Capri. Next time, definitely have to go.
Thank you for an interesting and scenic video. But I must confess that the best shot is the predawn one with Dave, Skye and Carlo in the kitchen. Why? Because there were tiny glimpses of "l'heure bleue" through the kitchen window. It's my favorite time of the morning. Your view of Positano at that hour must be stunning!!
I recently got a text from my cousin who is traveling in Italy. She and her daughter started in Milano. Then she mentioned Firenze, Pisa, and Salerno, our ancestral home. Her last text came from Positano, which she described as "busy" and "shopping is expensive." Wish I had known she was going in advance but suggested she view your vlog while she was there to give her some insight.
I believe some Americans have preconceived notions regarding Italy and become confused when presented with the reality. My last visit to Italy was in 1995 with an old friend who is Italo-Americano like me. I accept the fact that we bear virtually no resemblance to native Italians culturally. No matter how much I explained, which I admit, may have been my limited knowledge of Italy, he could not get it in his head that there are norms regarding food. And, at that time, Italian-American cooking was pretty much unavailable in Italy. All he did was complain about the food. He demanded that I find a place where he could have eggs for breakfast. So I took him to Piazza della Repubblica in Rome where there was a MacDonald's. From my first visit in 1972, I never had any problem with the food in Italy at all!!

Ottimo video come sempre. Vorrei tornare a Capri, è un posto incredibile...ci sono stato (ci siamo stati in realtà, io e mia moglie) nel 1998 ma come quasi tutti, solamente per alcune ore. Negli anni seguenti ho spesso pensato a come tornarci e affittare una casa o qualcosa del genere...è un po' caro ovviamente. Mi piacerebbe passare una settimana lì, facendo nulla tranne che camminare, mangiare, e godermi i panorami, il mare, e le barche. Ma ho dimenticato: inoltre, vorrei parlare con la gente in italiano, cosa che mi piace un sacco. Spero che vada tutto bene. Ciao.

I have, like many others, been to Pompeii, in fact on it was on my first trip to Italy in 1970, but I have never been to Herculaneum. The pizzas that Dave & Carlo had looked scrumptious. Completely agree on Herculaneum. Much better preserved. Mosaics, structures, wooden framing that was carbonized and artifacts were superior.
But no matter which, it is well worth the money to hire a docent at both to give you a narrated tour of the ruins. Our docent at Pompeii was a university history professor who brought the city to life with comment and explanation. Same with Herculaneum. It elevates your understanding and appreciation of Roman daily life. Wonderful experience.

I’ve experienced twice now the Positano crowds and would do it again and again because of the beauty it represents.
