I had never thought that anyone could have given an answer to the question of a Sadhu's purpose and his contribution to the society as grounded and close to the truth that Swami Satyanand has. The absolute absence of spiritual arrogance in him is something that we should strive to inculcate in our own lives.

The gratitude is all due to you. If it wasn't for people like you who post this stuff I'd still be lost when I first began getting into "Hinduism" It's down to CZcams etc I know Durga, Dhumavati etc, I know that "electronic snake" I've felt for years is Shakti & not a dangerous medical issue, I can chant a little bit in Sanskrit etc.......

Animal sacrifice is carried out on a mass scale in large temples like Kamakhya - if there is no religious sanction for this activity, what can Sadhus do to prevent this? Sadhu means efficient, and the most efficient way to make changes in society, is to become the example of the changes we want to make. In being an example, we show and explain how things could be, how they are for us, and why it is desirable. Those who accept the inspiration, will make the change.

According to the shastras, it is important for a woman to be married -the only anushtana recommended for a woman is to be a chaste and faithful wife. It is important for her to be a virgin before marriage - vedic vivah ceremony is not for women who have lost their virginity before marriage. A woman has to be married within 3 years of her attaining puberty. If women take all the cushy, respectable white collar jobs (70% of office jobs are held by women in America), the rate of marriage will go down accordingly as women usually marry up.
