      +Tristain Beckel We'll be putting together a blog post that shows photos of how it's put together. Honestly, I kind of made it up as I went along!

    As macmurfy2jka said below, the ergonomics seem to leave something to be desired- either a taller stand or a stool to sit on would save your back.
    But nonetheless, I would like more details on how to make the treadle especially, I have a wet grinder and stone, but no motor I can find has been adaptable to use with it, so this would solve at least a couple of problems for me too!

      +TUrschelRPAC The ergonomics are fine. It would be preferable to use a chair along with this, but there was no issue with my back. It was a matter of balance so that pressure could be taken off the treadle while momentum is carrying it through the upstroke. The leg needs enough room to move and you'd be unable to do so properly standing fully erect. We'll be putting up a blog post soon showing how it was put together. :)

    I tried to do something similar with an antique sewing-machine treadle. It turned out that there was no problem with the treadle, but there was a problem with the "software"! My brain just could NOT get my foot to keep going rhythmically while my hands were carefully holding a blade at the proper angle to the grindstone. Apparently, doing so takes more coordination than I had.

    Looks like you might need a stool. Cool either way!

      I agree. It looks pretty uncomfortable to work on ... but the treadle system is nice!

    How is the foot board connected to the second board?

    • @FortyTwoBlades
      @FortyTwoBlades  Před 2 lety +1

      It's resting in a pivoting stirrup made from a piece of bent round rod. This accounts for the elliptical path that the board would otherwise want to take.

    Do you sell that grinder on your web site?

      +Greg P Indeed we do. We're out of them at the moment, and this one had been intended for inventory but was received with a wheel that had a void in the side near the edge that had been patched with a clay-like putty, and so it was unsalable. Made for a good demo piece, though!
